Wet n wild. 1

Wet N Wild is an affordable cosmetics brand found at retailers like Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS. They recently released a Mega Mystery Box for purchase.

This is a review of the Mega Mystery Box for $19.99, which is still available for purchase.

Wet N Wild Mega Mystery Box Review

Wet N Wild bag

This mystery box came with a clear makeup bag with a zip top and handle. The skull and hearts aren't really my style, but your mileage may vary.

Wet N Wild lip gloss

MegaSlicks Lip Gloss in Red Sensation - Retail Value $2.79

This lip gloss packed a pigmented punch, and I liked the hint of gold shimmer that would occasionally peek through. This did feel a bit sticky on my lips, and it transferred a lot.

Color Icon Lipliner in Berry Red - Retail Value $0.99

This lipliner impressed me- I don't think you can find a more affordable lipliner, and the pigment and staying power were on par with some of the pricier liners in my stash.

Perfect Pout Gel Lip Balm in Love - Retail Value $2.99

This lip balm was comfortable to wear, but I was surprised with how pink it wore on my lips considering how light the swatch color was. If you want your lip balms to also add color, this is worth checking out.

Here is the lip balm swatched below the lipliner and above the lip gloss.

Mega Volume Waterproof Mascara - Retail Value $3.49

This mascara was solid- it provided volume and length, and I didn't have issues with clumping. While this won't replace my higher-end mascaras, it's definitely competitive with other drugstore brands that cost a few dollars more.

H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner in Black - Retail Value $4.29

This is the worst eyeliner I have ever used. The tip made it almost impossible to get a thin line along my lashline, and it smudged a lot. I don't consider myself a liquid eyeliner expert, but I can hold my own. This was almost impossible to work with, and when I was finally finished I had eyeliner in my eye and a lot of Q-tips dipped in makeup remover.

Color Icon Eyeshadow Quad in Fit For A Queen - Retail Value $2.99

This eyeshadow knocked my socks off- if you told me these pigmented colors came from a $3 eyeshadow palette, I would not have believed you. The colors blended well, and my favorite by far is that shimmery gold shade.

MegaGlow Highlighting Powder in Winter Falls in LA - Retail Value $4.99

This is a really pretty icy white highlighter with reflective pearl shimmer. With a light hand it can add a soft glow, and if you want to amp up the shine you definitely can use this to look like a disco ball.

Unicorn Highlighting Brush - Retail Value $4.99

I'm happy that a brush was included in this box, but after a few uses I can definitely tell this is a $5 makeup brush. Along with shedding bristles, it is a little more scratchy than the rest of my brushes.

Color Icon Baked Blush in Hummingbird Hype - Retail Value $4.99

This may be my favorite product in the box- it is a gorgeous shimmery blush that I view as a blush/highlighter hybrid. I really loved the glow this gave by brushing it onto the apples of my cheeks- I felt like a bronze-y goddess.

Color Icon Bronzer in Queen's Land - Retail Value $4.99

This is the first of two bronzers that came in the box, and though it came slightly broken I wasn't bothered much because this was the shade that didn't work well for me. This has a more pigmented brown that may work for more olive complexions, but it leaned orange on my fair skin.

Color Icon Bronzer in Bronze Dynasty - Retail Value $4.99

This bronzer, on the other hand, is much more in my lane. It is a lighter shade with cool undertones, and it has a soft hint of shimmer. This blended into my hairline and jawline well, and I used it to add definition to my face.

Here are the rest of the swatches. From top to bottom we have the highlighter, blush, Queen's Land, and Bronze Dynasty.

Wet N Wild setting spray

Photo Focus Setting Spray - Retail Value $5.49

This setting spray did a decent job at making my makeup last, but I wish the nozzle sprayed a finer mist. Overall, though, this is a solid option if pricier setting sprays aren't in your budget.

Wet N Wild selfie 1

Here is the look I did using most of the items in the box. Along with my own foundation and brow products, I used the eyeshadow palette, eyeliner, mascara, gel lip balm, Bronze Dynasty bronzer, baked blush, highlighter, and setting spray.

Here is a better view of my eyeshadow, which also shows how messy the eyeliner was.

The Verdict: I haven't used Wet N Wild products since high school, so this was a fun way to see which products are affordable options and which products should be skipped altogether. The baked blush and eyeshadow palette impressed me the most, but overall I think this was a good assortment of products that Wet N Wild offers. I calculated a total value of $47.98 for everything except the makeup bag, which is about $10 less than the promised value. I am skeptical that the makeup bag would have a value of $10, but this kit is still a decent vaue.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, mystery boxes are still available, though contents will vary.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $24.94 ($19.99 + $4.95 shipping) and I calculated an estimated total value of $47.98.  That means you're paying approximately the following per item:

  • Lip Gloss: $1.45
  • Lipliner: $0.51
  • Lip Balm: $1.55
  • Mascara: $1.81
  • Eyeliner: $2.23
  • Eyeshadow: $1.55
  • Highlighter: $2.59
  • Highlighter brush: $2.59
  • Blush: $2.59
  • Queen's Land Bronzer: $2.59
  • Bronze Dynasty Bronzer: $2.59
  • Setting Spray: $2.85
  • Makeup Bag: N/A

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I really like WNW highlighters. I have a couple from last year’s line and their pigment is really good.

Yowzah! I don’t think I’ve ever seen an eyeliner go on like that. That is unbelievably tragic.

I honestly think this would be a great box for a teenager just getting into makeup. But likely not ideal for most of us who frequent MSA 🙂

This looks like dollar store, leftovers.

This comment is just plain silly. We all know Wet n Wild is an inexpensive brand. The prices are listed in the review.

I use that eyeliner occasionally, when I want a thick cat eye. So strange it performed so poorly on your lids. I don’t usually have any problems other than it can be hard to make thin lines due to the thickness of the applicator. I save empty eyeliners with thinner applicators to use with this formula.

Exactly, I use that eyeliner all the time for swimming, and it definitely isn’t that bad. once it’s dry it’s actually the most smudge and waterproof I’ve ever found. I just use the tip for a thinner line.

Nope. For the value, I would prefer to go to Walmart and select my own products and colors.

Ha the bag is the item I’d want from this box.
