Spiritú Fall 2019 Review

The box included a fold-open booklet with all of our included items, retail values, and more info on the brands.

info pages

This small card placed at the top of the box highlights its retail value, along with more info on this month’s box artist: Anna Alvarado. I think this box is stunningly beautiful and the color palette is striking.

Let’s peek at what’s inside!

Coquettes Armoire Honduras Handmade Junco Earrings – Listed Value $12.00

I wasn’t 100% sure I liked these earrings until I studied them for a few minutes. They are so intricate! Each is a little woven disk and the texture and tiny scale won me over quickly. I don’t have anything like this in my jewelry box and I love that they were handmade by talented artisans in Honduras. Handmade items always feel so much more special than anything a machine can make. I also really like the emerald green color and that they look like simple circle studs in my earlobes until you examine them closer.

I find these just so charming.

Agavesalt Baja Shawl – Listed Value $60.00

FYI: This scarf was a little over 18 inches wide and around 76 inches long.

This shawl is PLUSH! It was so much thicker than I expected and super warm. I know a few different colors went out and I am quite happy with this beautiful turquoise palette. Handmade in Los Angeles with Mexican Jerga fabric, it has all of these little intricate splashes of color hidden in the turquoise areas, giving it a lot of character and dimension. It is also sturdy, but not harsh against my neck at all. Our included booklet also suggests it might make a beautiful and unusual table runner, something I might try out if I manage to remove it from around my very cozy neck!

This is a really great weight and size for crisp autumn mornings.

LIDÈ Haiti Bracelet – Listed Value $12.00

I love adding new stretch bracelets to my collection, and I don’t have anything quite like this one. LIDÈ was co-founded by Rainn Wilson (of The Office fame) and writer Holiday Reinhorn, his wife. LIDÈ provides arts and literacy classes, computer training, and scholarships to hundreds of Haitian girls who saw their communities devastated after the earthquake in 2010. I love that this bracelet has a beautiful message as well as being beautiful on my wrist.

I feel so colorful with both the scarf and bracelet on!

Don Francisco’s Coffee, 12 oz – Retail Value $7.99

I am not a coffee drinker, but my husband Will sure is. Even I have to admit that this coffee smells incredible! It has really noticeable floral notes that might just make a coffee drinker out of me yet. Don Francisco’s a multi-generational roaster and good coffee is part of their family heritage. We are talking 150 years of history and 4 generations! What a legacy. This bag contains 100% Arabica beans that are already ground and ready to enjoy. Will might have to share this bag with me after all.

Don Francisco’s Coffee Reusable Cup – Listed Value $6.00

This reusable coffee cup is a perfect complement to our bag of coffee. It is surprisingly sturdy and I really like the golden design.

Clinique Moisture Surge Eye 96-Hour Hydro-Filler Concentrate, 5 ml – Estimated Value $11.33 (Buy a full size 15 ml for $34.00 )

Clinique was the first “fancy” skincare I ever used as a kid. We lived with my grandparents and I would constantly borrow from my Nana’s vanity shelves. She always showered me in the little samples she would get from Macy’s and I honestly think Clinique is where my initial obsession with skincare started.

Ok, nostalgia aside, this eye concentrate is pretty cool. It is in the form of a very dense gel that has little confetti-style antioxidant bobbles floating around. I love bobbles! It goes on very smooth and absorbs well without stickiness. I do think 96 hours is a bit far fetched in terms of moisture retention, but it certainly does last all day and gave my dull skin a little glow.

Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydration, 15 ml mini-size – Retail Value $12.00

I liked this gel-cream too! Though I generally rely on heavy creams at night, something with a lighter texture like this feels great for daytime wear, and this left my skin hydrated all day. It has aloe, caffeine, and hyaluronic acid, which gave my skin a nice glow and noticeable improvement. Because of its gel-cream texture, I didn’t need much to coat my face, which bodes well for this pot lasting a long time. My makeup looked great all day on top of it to boot!

Michael Kors Wonderlust Perfume Rollerball, 0.34 fl oz – Retail Value $30.00

It took a good hour for me to really appreciate this fragrance. At first it doesn’t smell very unique, a sweet mix of almonds, florals, and something beachy. But give it time and the spice from the pink pepper kicks in and makes it much more interesting. Wait a little longer and it is downright woodsy! I don’t think I would wear this one alone, but if you own Kayali Vanilla 28, layer them! It turns into something so sexy and perfect for fall. I love that a full rollerball was included!

Verdict: Ok, I am pretty impressed with this box. The curation is top notch and I love the mix of handmade accessories with skincare and perfume from well-known brands. It works! I liked every single item that was included this quarter, but especially those cute green earrings, the shawl, and the Clinique items. Will is going to really appreciate the coffee and the travel mug, and I have yet to take the little bracelet off. Lastly, you know your girl is a perfume collector, so a full rollerball really pleases me. I also really appreciate when brands include supplemental info about the origins of handmade products, and this box was full of details that made each piece even more special. Though I couldn’t find specific values of everything, based on our booklet this box has a retail value of around $150, which feels accurate to me. This is a great value for a $39.99 box, especially since nothing felt like filler.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

  1. My box arrived today and I like everything in it. The earrings are a dark peach/orange color which actually compliments the shirt I’m wearing. I received the pink (which is my favorite color) scarf. Can’t wait to try the coffee. The bracelet is pretty but my hands are too big for it. My cat is laying on the box, so everybody wins!

  2. Hey MSA! We have a special offer this Fall where members can get their first box for 30% off (or, $27.99) if they subscribe to a Quarterly membership. This will also take an additional $12 off the already discounted Annual membership. Use code MSA30!

  3. This box is 50% off today with code COFFEE!

    • Well that figures after I paid much more!

      • Hi Jody! The 50% off promo is just a 24-hour flash sale in honor of National Coffee Day! 🙂

  4. I almost signed up for a year the other day but i didn’t care for most items in box (jewelry and scarf and coffee). I will end up with this subscription or causebox.

  5. FYI, The scarf is actually 78″ long. I got the pink one and love it. Don’t like the jewelry. Made magnets out of the earrings. The bracelet and (toxic) fragrance went to the GW. Wish the coffee were a dark roast. I don’t drinking hot liquids out of plastic so the plastic coffee tumbler also went to the GW. I like the tiny Clinique gels. This is the first box I got that I didn’t love everything. But it’s worth the price of the scarf/table runner alone.

    • Thanks for the catch! I measured it folded in half and forgot to double.

    • I agree about not drinking hot liquids out of plastic. I’m using my coffee cup to store pens and pencils.

  6. I loved the box, the coffee was great and so was the wrap but that bracelet was very cheap looking.

  7. I got a pink scarf and love it but I love yours too! And girl I want your photo skills!!

  8. I am not feeling this box at all. To me the earrings and day-glow colors on the bracelet feel cheap. And the color combination I got on the scarf is hideous. And those are things that a lot of the value is tied up in.

    • What scarf color did you get? I might be up for a swap.

  9. I have to say one more nice thing about them – when I first subscribed, I was able to get the 25% discount on my first box and subscribe to the annual at the same time – which was a great discount! And thanks Megan for the great review – you look great in that scarf.

    • Thanks so much! <3

  10. The price is too high for tiny samples & that cheap cup. I mean I’m getting 5 full size products for $25 with ipsy! Otherwise I really like the curation of this box. A nice new travel coffee cup would’ve been nice to see

    • I do think the samples are small compared to some of the big beauty boxes, but this isn’t a beauty box, which I think is the main difference. Apples and oranges to me at least! Agree with you on the curation. They did a fantastic job!

    • This is my second box and I really liked it. I’m moving north late this winter so the scarf will be useful and unique. I don’t like to see myself coming and going.

      • Oops – didn’t mean to reply to the comment above; I thought I had clicked out of it. I was going to reply but realized Megan already said everything I was thinking 🙂 Great review Megan!

    • Not fair to compare this box to Ipsy. Not the same, at all.

      • I’m talking about the value we expect from these boxes. Comparatively, in the sub box game, there’s not much to this box at a $40 price point.

  11. I got the same color shawl as you, Megan! It’s ridiculously soft. One thing to note is that my shawl was SUPER linty. I used up half a lint roller trying to clean it up and it still deposited lint on my clothes.

    • Oh, I have yet to wear it with dark colors. Thanks for the heads up Nanners!

    • I found the scarf very linty, too, but fortunately running it through the washer and dryer took care of the problem.

  12. This specific box is totally calling my name! I love and would use everything included.

  13. Im in love with my box. I’ve cancelled all my other subs because I was getting burnt out over the same products and lack of them relevance to the seasons. This box was a perfect fall box for me. Coffee and a cup?! Yes please then the addition of the gorgeous shawl and earrings?! I can now be cozy with my coffee and still look so luxe. Also the bracelet is gorgeous and I love the perfume perfect size for my purse. I’m a fan. Thank you for originally posting about this a week or so ago. I’m looking forward to my next box! Also I really appreciate your reviews. They seem very honest. That blue looks gorgeous on you too.

  14. This was my second box and I’m very impressed with them. I think this is a great alternative to the PSMH and FFF blues and I love that it supports Latinas but can be appreciated by anyone.

    • I subscribed to this box & I Love it😃

  15. This was my first Spiritu box and I really love it. Everything is beautiful and high quality. I got turquoise earrings and a pink shawl. I’m excited for the next quarter!
