Birchbox Battle Breakouts info

Here is the info sheet for the products included.

Birchbox Battle Breakouts benefit 1 Birchbox Battle Breakouts benefit 2

Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Face Primer, 0.25 oz - Retail Value $13

I don't have one true love for primer, but this is a primer I have used before, purchased in full-size before, and reach for often. It is a silicone-based primer that leaves a velvety finish and helps to blur the look of pores, but it won't play nice with your foundation if you use a water-based one

Birchbox Battle Breakouts balance me

Balance Me Congested Skin Serum, 0.24 oz - Estimated Value $10.82 (Buy the full-size 0.51 oz for $23)

This is a daily serum to help prevent breakouts, and it can also be used as a spot treatment. I really like the ingredients list- it has goodies like aloe, moringa oil, rice bran oil, and roman chamomile. It's really lightweight, and it layers well with my skincare routine.

Birchbox Battle Breakouts blaq

Blaq Peel Off Mask, 2.03 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $29

I don't use peel-off masks often- over time, they can actually make your pores look bigger. I used this just on my T-zone, and I wasn't impressed with the texture or how uncomfortable it was to peel off. Pain is not gain when it comes to face masks, thank you very much.

Birchbox Battle Breakouts avene 1 Birchbox Battle Breakouts avene 2

Avène Cleanance EXPERT Lotion, 0.16 oz - Estimated Value $3.20 (Buy the full-size 1.3 oz for $26)

This moisturizer was just okay for my dry skin, but I think those with oily skin will really like it. It is designed to both fight acne and hydrate skin while leaving a matte finish. The matte finish made it work really well under my makeup, so that's nice.

Birchbox Battle Breakouts evologie

Evologie Intensive Blemish Serum, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $11.90 (Buy the full-size 0.5 oz for $35)

I really liked this serum- my acne is usually red and painful (thanks, hormones!), and this has azelaic acid, tea tree, willow bark, and salicylic acid to treat both active pimples and acne scars. My favorite part is that this has a cooling sensation when applied to the skin, which feels delightfully soothing.

Birchbox Battle Breakouts PTR

Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Cleansing Gel, 1 oz - Retail Value $6

I've used this cleanser before, and nothing about it makes it a must-have for me. It's made with Irish Moor Mud, activated charcoal, and volcanic ash, so perhaps if your skin is really oily you'll see more benefits from this. I like that this has lactic and salicylic acid for exfoliation, and even though this has a lot going on it wasn't too harsh for my skin.

Birchbox Battle Breakouts comfort zone

[comfort zone ] Active Pureness Hydrating Fluid, 0.27 oz - Estimated Value $12.30 (Buy the full-size 1.01 oz for $46)

This is my favorite product discovery of the box- I love it! While my skin as a whole is dry, I always get an oily nose in this Baton Rouge humidity that always makes my makeup break up on my nose. This light emulsion has a matte finish, and using it on my T-zone before applying makeup made a noticeable difference in how my makeup wears.

Birchbox Battle Breakouts Starskin

STARSKIN® Sunset Strips™ 3-Step Advanced Pore Cleansing Expert System, 2 treatments - Retail Value $10

Don't be me and think you're missing an item- there are two nose treatments inside this one foil pouch bag. I am lucky in that I don't get too many blackheads, but boy is it satisfying to do a nose strip and see what can be pulled out. This is a three-step process for the ultimate nose pore care- step one has mistletoe to help open up your pores, step two is a charcoal strip to pull everything out and absorb excess oil, and step three soothes thanks to the bio-cellulose material and ingredients like eucalyptus and witch hazel. I definitely noticed an improvement in the appearance of blackheads and pores on my nose after using, but the $5 per use cost is a bit steep.

Birchbox Battle Breakouts scrubber 1 Birchbox Battle Breakouts scrubber 2

Daily Concepts Your Facial Mini Scrubber - Retail Value $5

This is the smaller version of the micro scrubber, but to be honest I have been using it on my body rather than my face- it is just a touch too abrasive for me to use on my face, even though it is gentle. I like the technology of it that has the writing on the tag fade when it is time to replace- sponges can be such a breeding ground for bacteria!

The Verdict: This kit definitely has a variety of products that work well for acne, but I am a little bummed that the big-ticket item in the Blaq mask was a miss for me. That being said, if you have oily skin and are prone to breakouts, I think this is a good kit for you. If you're like me and have acne with dry skin, I would pass. Value-wise, Birchbox promised a total value of $105, and by my math, they came pretty close with a total value of $101.22.
