August 2019 BeautyFIX Review

This box comes with a booklet detailing each of the items included. We have 9 (!!!) different items this month, so strap in!

PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Lip Booster, 0.24 oz. -  Full Size! Retail Value $45.00

Our first product is a full-size tube of pricy lip balm. This stuff has hyaluronic acid which can have a plumping effect since it helps with moisture retention. I already have pretty full lips and I didn't notice a massive difference size-wise, but my lips were incredibly smooth and the lines in them were left less dramatic.

SkinCeuticals Resveratrol B E, 4 ml  - Estimated Value $20.40 (Buy a full-size 30 ml for $153.00)

This product claims to be the first of its kind using 100% resveratrol. Resveratrol is also found in red wine and is a really powerful antioxidant. This is one of those products that I will have to experiment with over a few days, but my first night using it was pleasant. It is a thicker gel that absorbed very easily. I used it instead of a serum, right before my nightly cream.

Eminence Organic Skin Care Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant, 28 g - Estimated Value $11.20 (Buy a full-size 120 g for $48.00)

They actually sell this brand at the fancy spa in my gym, so I have sampled some of the items before. This is a dry powder that you add water (or yogurt, or milk) to and then use as an exfoliant. It has a nice strawberry scent and organic feeling scrubbiness. I had a lot of fun using this super gentle exfoliator, but I don't see myself making something like this a part of my routine because I don't enjoy the DIY liquid-adding aspect.

SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair, 2 g - Estimated Value $14.37 (Buy a full-size 14.2 g for $102.00)

Oh, I liked this! I love eye creams in general because the skin under my eyes is so delicate and gets dull very easily. This formula has all the good stuff: vitamins A, E, and C, hyaluronic acid, loads of peptides, antioxidants, ALL THE THINGS! It also feels incredible on my skin and leaves it velvety smooth and automatically brighter.

Epionce Intensive Nourishing Cream, 0.42 oz -Estimated Value $26.68 (Buy a full-size 1.7 oz for $108.00)

The creams so far in this box are stellar, especially for my dry skin. This is one of the most nourishing creams I have ever applied. It is so heavy that some people might hate it, especially if you have oily skin. My skin drinks it up like a craft beer after mowing the lawn. I love this stuff. This formula is a luxe blend of shea, and skin-loving acids, with a dash of vitamins. I wish this tube was bigger because I would try it on my poor dry legs. For now, I will reserve it to a nightly mask.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $5.41 (Buy 8.5 oz for $46.00)

I have sampled this spray before and I like it, though I find it a little light for my heavy hair. My strands already have a ton of texture so I need to use quite a lot of this to see any real difference. It smells incredible though, and if the bottle were the full size I would have no problem using it liberally! If you have medium to fine hair, you are going to love this dry spray that will give you volume without weighing your hair down.

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Vitamin C Brightening Serum, 5 ml - Estimated Value $14.17 (Buy a full-size 30 ml for $85.00)

I have a full bottle of this product and I am almost at the bottom of it! This is no small feat since I very rarely get to use the same formula long enough to get through an entire bottle. I find vitamin C so brightening and I love the scent of oranges in this cream. My skin generally loves anything Sunday Riley, so whenever I get a sample size I stash it away for my travel bag so I never have to be without while away from home.

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $3.67 (Buy a full-size 16.9 oz for $62.00)

This extra-gentle facewash is perfect for those out there who need a cleanser that is soap-free and doesn't have a fragrance to upset your skin. I personally find it a little boring, but I have skin that stands up to loads of product swapping and general abuse. I will be passing this along to a friend with more sensitive skincare needs.

NuFACE Prep-N-Glow Cleansing Wipe - Estimated Value $1.00 (Buy 20 wipes for $20.00)

Finally, our last item is a large face wipe in an individual packet. One side is scrubby and the other is smooth, so in addition to being convenient, it is also exfoliating! Along with being refreshing, they also leave your face most moisturized because (you guessed it!) they have hyaluronic acid! These are a bit too cost-prohibitive to replace my regular pack of wet wipes but buying some to stash close by for air travel or long road trips would be smart.

Verdict: This $24.95 BeautyFIX box has an estimated value of $141.90 which admittedly seems super high for this mix of smaller tubes, but the formulas inside those tubes are PRICY. They are also so, so, SO luxe on my face! Why am I not a millionaire? I would buy all the creams and swim around in them. Ok, maybe not, but you get the idea. Some of these creams feel like you snuck into a fancy hotel or first class and now the Marriot and economy class just aren't cutting it. At least we get to sample them in this sub, right? This continues to be a great box for trying out new and high-quality formulas with ingredient lists to back up their prices. I also really love the new edgy look of the box!

Tbh this month’s box looked like Sephora or Ipsy for 10$ bit for 26. No thank you. Unsubscribe. Not even one item was full size.

The PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Lip Booster was full-sized.

The products look fab. The sizes not so much. I typically spend my $$ on my cleansing routine, which is Laszlo, and use the products I get in boxes for my skincare. But geez. Love one commenter about Zoolander…lol! A beauty box for ANTS! Yes, RE the customer service. The only time I have gotten satisfaction is over the phone.

I am so disappointed in this box this month. I wanted to read the reviews to make sure I wasn’t crazy. This is my 2nd box and I am wondering if I need to cancel. I am hoping Dermstore reads these reviews and will step up their game. I am wondering what subscription box I should order next.

My box did not include the only full size product (PCA lip product) after looking through all the black paper shards. This may sound petty but I really preferred the old white ones, especially with everything being minuscule and thus harder to find this month. Or how about no paper shards at all since they just end up everywhere?

Anyhow, no response was received after my email to customer care so I CALLED and they shipped out a replacement lip product. WTF about never responding to customer emails in 2019 though? I’m a millennial and I don’t want to have to call anyone. Know your customers Target. Yes, fun fact, Dermstore is owned by Target.

I also feel like this box was like watching Zoolander…is that a sample box for ants?!? Everything felt so freaking tiny compared to past boxes. Dermstore did just change their logo, so I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

I’m so glad you mentioned the paper! The new black ones left a residue on my hands. And, as you said, they just get everywhere and I could do without them entirely.

I also did not receive the PCA lip. I used chat feature and was told they would send me another one. 2 weeks later and no product. Chatted again and was told the lip product is out of stock. Was never notified of this. Now they say sending me PCA C&E advanced. Hope that arrives.

I still haven’t got my box. It has been on the way to my house since august 2. So disappointed, submitted a ton of customer service questions and I never got respond.
Why is it so hard to treat your customers in a better way? I am surprised this box is loved by so many, probably they got lucky not to deal with losing package and customer service.

I just used the chat feature, responded in 2 min. Now they are sending me whole new box since some tubes were empty. I’ve e-mailed them 2 weeks ago and no response. I agree with everyone’s advice to chat with them.

When I’ve had issues in the past (i.e. missing box, damaged product, etc) I’ve called them and have always received exceptional customer service. You might consider giving them a call if you still haven’t received your box….

Terrible box. Super small sizes. Too much money for this. I’ll be cancelling.

Three of my August box items were empty tubes as well. I contacted Dermstore via chat and they are sending out replacements today. I explained that I had cut open the tubes and that they were completely void of product with no seal. Dermstore is forwarding all of the information detail I provided to their warehouse. My empty tubes were the SkinMedica, the SkinCeuticals, and the Sunday Riley. Dermstore has excellent customer service. I was pleased with the items in the box and will be excited to try all of them once I have all to try!

My skinmedica eye cream was empty as well. I called, and was issued another box. My new box arrived- same issue with the skinmedica eye cream being empty. Interesting that I am not the only one with this issue.

Tammy

I had two empty tubes (Sunday Riley and SkinMedica) and contacted customer service by chat. They are just sending me a whole new box, which is way more than I was expecting. I figure even if I end up with more empty tubes in the next box, it’s hard to complain about the value with double everything else. Dermstore customer service is great.

Punkykiki

Those three were the empty ones in my box too. I sent an email over the weekend, but perhaps it is better to use the chat. I’m not sure I even care anymore, but I also think companies should know what the customers are receiving. And I think customer service should respond if an inquiry is sent in a format that the site says is acceptable. So no, I don’t think I will use chat. I will leave my original email and see how long it takes for them to reply (or if they even bother). I have high hopes for Beauty Fix. They are usually on their game, along with Ipsy. It’s Boxy and Allure that should take a few lessons in customer service, although Boxy responded very professionally and in a timely manner the last time I contacted them. We shall see.

I had a missing item in my very first box from them and sent an email. They never responded. I ended up having to call. And then they said that they were out of the item and they couldn’t replace it. But interestingly the box was still available for purchase on their site. It ended up being the item I was most excited about. The next month I used the chat feature to deal with a billing issue. You should call or use the chat feature, I don’t think they respond to emails.

I have been a subscriber to BeautyFix since 2013, this is absolutely the worst box they have ever put out. Even more disappointing since this was a being bragged up by them as being something spectacular. I for one really don’t care to receive the super high end products, the samples are tiny and therefor useless to me and I certainly don’t have the money in my budget to spend one hundred plus dollars on one cream. I would rather receive full size mid range products that I can use for long enough to see if they work. Then repurchase if I love them.

katharyn

I absolutely agree. These samples are useless. So disappointed in this box. This used to be my most fave box of all. I miss the full size items! I too, cant afford hundreds of dollars to spend on a tube of face cream!

I don’t buy the boxes that have mostly samples..because they don’t have much in them..i skipped this month too..

I am a long time Beauty Fix subscriber. This “anniversary” box is the worst box I’ve ever seen. If you are not a subscriber, I would say to NOT buy this box…it is NOT worth the price. And yes, about 4 of my tubes were empty. Not partially filled with air and small sample, but totally empty. I always tell people it’s Boxy for makeup, BeautyFix for skincare and Ipsy & Allure for a nice mix of the two. But I will not tell anyone to buy this particular box. And if this trend of the tiniest of samples continues, I’m out. I hope they will return stronger than ever…it seems strange this box was billed as “best box ever” and as their anniversary box.

Kathy Stacy

I couldn’t agree more. Normally love this box but some of my samples had very little product. The Sunday Riley had just a few drops and no seal. Perhaps someone took product out. I can’t imagine they are suppose to be that little in the tube. I’ve been a subscriber for a while now so I’ll chalk this up to a bad box.

Les

I had the same problem! My Skinceuticals, Sunday Riley and Dermalogica were completely empty, this brings the value of my box down about 60 dollars! That is super BS. I reached out to customer service and they are sending me replacements for 2 of them and since the SR is sold out I get something else ( hopefully not good genes, ugh, I have 3 full ones I don’t use) but if these tubes are also empty I am cancelling. This happens so much! If they want to send tiny tubes, at least fill it enough to let us try the product! They basically are sending us trash to throw away, what a waste! Send foil packets if they want to be stingy with the product or don’t put it in the box.

Jean

I guess the PCA lip product was the hero product, and it does sound nice, but this box does seem a little light compared to the typical BeautyFix offering. Where BeautyFix makes up for it is in the quality and variety of samples – I’ve been able to try so many high end brands because of this sub!

Reply ButtonReply

Christy

I understand the allure of using a super expensive high-end face cream, but this box seemed really light on actual product to me. When samples are that small, I don’t get the chance to see the product’s effect on my skin before the tube is empty. I’d rather have larger sizes of just regular ol’ high end products. OR, give us some tiny, super-high-end tubes mixed in with the larger sizes.

I’m sure some people prefer it this way, though. Can’t please everyone.

Reply ButtonReply

Tat

Were all the tubes filled? On another thread, there were some complaints that three of the tubes were empty.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

I had no issues with empty tubes. All of mine seemed decently full. I would def reach out to customer care if anyone had this problem.

Punkykiki

I did so over the weekend, Megan. Even though I’m not a huge fan of a box with ALL tiny samples, sometimes that’s what we get and I just hope for a better box next time. I prefer a nice mix of sizes and prices, and Beauty Fix has always fit that dynamic. It was just really weird for this box to be so hyped. It reminded me of the Le Mer sample in a dime size jar housed in a big luxe square box. NOTHING can beat that in my book. I don’t even know who sent it (maybe Allure?). 😄. I’ll let you guys know if Beauty Fix replies. Great review as always, Megan!

Punkykiki

Sunday Riley was empty. SkinCeuticals was empty (their samples are always tiny but I’ve never had a completely empty tube). SkinMedica had a little drop or two of product but was dried out. I’m sorry, I posted above that it was four or so tubes without product. It was three. I even cut the tubes to make sure. I am honestly a huge fan of this sub!!! I’ve been subscribed for five years at least and yes, this was the worst box ever. The Anniversary Box. I laughed so hard at the packing squiggly papers too. They were all black with TWO little sad gold shiny ones. 😸😹

I tried this box in June but they sent me the January box instead of the June and never responded to any of my emails, so I canceled. It looks like a great box though. But I hesitate to sign up again because even if it says I am getting the August box who knows which I will get. Can you tell I am still mad about not getting the June box, I specifically wanted those products! Oh well, I guess sometimes these subscriptions are a crapshoot.

I 2nd what MzKayleeJames says… definitely try the chat feature. I also emailed them a few months ago because of a missing product, and I never heard back from them after a few days, then someone recommended I try their chat feature, and in less than 5 minutes I had a new box being sent my way! Then, last month I was missing two items from my box, so I tried the chat feature, and again in less than 5 minutes I had the missing items being sent to me. 🙂

MzKayleeJames

They have a chat feature on the website, I’ve always had great service with them on there. I’d try it and see if they can still do something about it.

Beth

Absolutely loved the products but felt the box was missing something…maybe everything seemed a little too small? Products are fantastic tho

Reply ButtonReply

MzKayleeJames

Agree. Didn’t realize at first that the lip product is full size. Once I got into it I really love the box and there are some amazing products but it just felt like something was still missing.
