Goodnight Numbers by Danica McKellar - Retail Value: $16.99 (found here for $10.19)

When I was first establishing a bedtime routine with my oldest, one thing we did was go around the house and tell different things we saw inside and out the windows goodnight. This book reminded me of that little routine we used to have. This book is pretty simple - it just goes through different things they see and counts them as they head to bed. One thing I like about this book is that sometimes my toddler has a hard time sitting and caring about listening to a story at bedtime; counting things in this with me helps give his brain something to focus on and it has helped him sit and go through the book with me well.

The Sandcastle That Lola Built by Megan Maynor - Retail Value: $17.99 (found here for $13.70)

My oldest is 3 so beaches are actually starting to be fun for him. He's started sharing sand toys with other kids and figuring out swimming, so he was excited to see a book about the beach. This book has a good story about a girl who starts building a sandcastle, until a boy with a frisbee knocks it down. Then the two of them start rebuilding together and other children join in, too. A wave comes and knocks it down, but they all agree to make a new one together, each focusing on a different part of it. I liked how this book was kind and optimistic and showed good examples of how to handle accidents while building something, at the beach or in preschool, or even at home with siblings. It also teaches how each kid can sort of pick a task to work on and focus on that. You can also get metaphorical and interpret these concepts as the broader idea that any project or group of people or company is made better by the individuals in it and the differences they bring to the table.

The Verdict: My kids and I have enjoyed Amazon Prime Books Kids quite a bit! I chose the 3-5-year-old option for my 3-year-old. I really appreciate that I get an email before it ships so I can swap out and select which two books to get each time, and I trust Amazon's customer service if I have any issues (which, I have in the past, and it's been easy to correct it). This really helps to make sure we get books we'll like, and having new books to read has helped bedtime go more smoothly. For $19.99 a month plus free Prime shipping, we received two books with a total value of $34.98 (less with sale prices). My sons and I are really happy with this month's book picks and they've been fun to read before bed!

To Wrap Up:

Value Breakdown: This box costs $19.99 which means you are paying about $9.99 for each book.
