Slay Glam Box June 2019 Review
Slay Glam sends an info card each month with an itemized list of what’s in your box, including retail values.
There weren’t any customization options this month, but if you follow @slayglambox on Instagram, the box curator enables subscribers to choose certain items each month by DMing or commenting your item choice; I love this feature!
Note Cosmetics BB Lip Corrector in 01 Sheer Pink - Retail Value $15
Lip products like this are perfect to apply before starting your makeup. By the time you’re ready to apply any color to your lips, they look plumper and are perfectly moisturized for the perfect lipstick application. It moisturizes with shea butter and vitamin E and stimulates collagen with peptides. This product is also free from added parabens and is cruelty-free! This Sheer Pink color has a glossy finish on the lips but its shade blended in with my natural lip color.
Sorme Shimmer and Glow Sparkling Mineral Face and Body Powder in 85 Bronze - Retail Value $24.50
Applicator and product all in one, you gotta love the simplicity of products like this one! Simply shake powder down to the brush, and one quick sweep gives you a subtle, shimmery bronze that’s perfect for summer. The brush isn’t very soft, but it dispersed the product without any issue. I also like that the packaging has a sliding plastic tube to prevent pinching the brush hairs with the lid. I applied the product to my decolletage, and before I put the lid on, I slid up the plastic tube (see second photo above) and applied the shimmer to highlight my cheekbones with the remaining product on the brush.
Sorme Truline Mechanical Eye Pencil in Midnight - Retail Value $16
A smudge-proof, water-resistant eyeliner is invaluable, especially during hot summer months! This mechanical pencil was so easy to glide on and blend out to form perfectly tiny wings, and it lasted all day without budging. I know this color may not be for everyone, but I am always thankful to receive colorful eyeliners instead of your basic black.
Products swatched left to right: Note BB Lip Corrector in Sheer Pink, Sorme Truline in Midnight, Sorme All Over Shimmer Powder in 85 Bronze
Crown Brush Enchanted Rose Brush Set - Retail Value $14.95, Listed Value $19.99
I just love receiving makeup brushes in subscriptions! Being a brush hoarder, I welcome any soft multitasking brush into my stash with open arms! This kit comes with two face brushes and three eye brushes. Each synthetic brush can be used with liquid, cream or powder, but I’ve only tried them with powders (and they work great!). The rose gold stems are so pretty and will make a great addition to my collection.
Rasha B Cosmetics Mattes Shimmers & Glitters Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $29
This eyeshadow palette is a warm shadow lover’s dream! Its name says it all; this palette is full of different textures, bound to please a wide variety of people.
See what I mean? The looks are endless, and as a sparkle lover, I can totally appreciate having my glitter-fix all in one package along with my other shadow needs being met.
Here are all the shades swatched from left to right. The first row contains all the matte shades, and the second row ranges from shimmers to metallics and one pearly black shade. Each shadow was pretty easy to pick up, none of them being overly soft or dusty.
In order to get any of this glitter to stay, you definitely need a glitter primer. I swear by NYX’s Glitter Primer. The trick is to use a little and rub your fingers together to make it tacky, then you can apply it over any shadows by gently patting your finger to your eyelid.
Here is the look I created using all the makeup products from this month’s Slay Glam Box. I went for a more “subtle” look today. Using the chubby Crown eyeshadow brush I applied the matte cream and orange shades as a base, I then blended the gold and pink shimmers together over my lid with the smaller Crown shadow brush. I smudged the Sorme Eyeliner in Midnight at my lashline and blended it out using the Crown angled brush to wing it out a bit. The last step, my favorite, is the glitter! I applied a glitter primer to desired areas, and with a clean, dry fingertip I dipped into both copper and pink glitter shades and patted those on over my shadows. I also have a super glossy lipgloss on over top of the Note BB Corrector.
Verdict: Each product is a great fit for me this month, so I am really satisfied with June’s box. This box has a retail value of $99.49 - all for under $25! I liked the array of products featured this month, especially the Crown brush set! I am curious if there will be any variations to choose from next month since this month did not have any, but we will just have to wait and see!
