BomiBox May 2019 Review

This month's BomiBox focuses on products to clean, treat and protect your skin.

BomiBox has detailed info cards for each month’s box on their website. The info card provides a description of all the items included in the box and instructions on how to use them. This is great since a lot of the products have instructions that are not in English.

BomiBox May 2019 Review - Glowhill Pure Peel Hydrate Cream, 50ml 1 TopBomiBox May 2019 Review - Glowhill Pure Peel Hydrate Cream, 50ml 2 TopBomiBox May 2019 Review - Glowhill Pure Peel Hydrate Cream, 50ml 3 Front

Glowhill Pure Peel Hydrate Cream, 50ml – Retail Value $29.00

This mild exfoliate night cream with AHA fruit acids promises to gently remove dry dead skin leaving your skin clear, bright, toned and hydrated. It also contains calming and bedtime-friendly lavender and ylang-ylang flower extract. I love how this cream smells and feels! It's super thick and moisturizing but also a little greasy. It left my skin feeling great and was not at all irritating.

BomiBox May 2019 Review - Nature Republic California Aloe Daily Sunblock, 57ml 1 FrontBomiBox May 2019 Review - Nature Republic California Aloe Daily Sunblock, 57ml 2 FrontBomiBox May 2019 Review - Nature Republic California Aloe Daily Sunblock, 57ml 3 Top

Nature Republic California Aloe Daily Sunblock, 57ml – Retail Value $25.90

This creamy and moisture-rich daily sunscreen contains soothing aloe vera leaf extract. In addition to protecting skin from harmful UV rays, this sunblock is also a great moisturizer that helps brighten skin and correct skin tone. It smells surprisingly good! Unfortunately, it leaves a white film on my face. It’s not awful but definitely present on my skin. This is a common issue for those of us with darker skin tones.

BomiBox May 2019 Review - Dr. Gloderm TABRX Wrinkletox Serum Action 1 TopBomiBox May 2019 Review - Dr. Gloderm TABRX Wrinkletox Serum Action 2 TopBomiBox May 2019 Review - Dr. Gloderm TABRX Wrinkletox Serum Action 3 Top

Dr. Gloderm TABRX Wrinkletox Serum Action – Retail Value $15.00

This anti-wrinkle serum is meant to be used every night for a week, 1ml per day. It contains collagen and protein - ingredients similar to Botox. It claims to remove dead skin cells, improve skin texture, increase moisture retention, and prevent wrinkles. I really hate the packaging for this product – the syringe is off-putting. It's also really hard to measure the correct amount to dispense each day with the line markers. However, once applied to my skin, I loved it! It's so silky, incredibly hydrating and best of all, it's not greasy.

BomiBox May 2019 Review - Klavuu Pure Pearlsation Revitalizing Facial Cleansing Foam, 30ml 1 FrontBomiBox May 2019 Review - Klavuu Pure Pearlsation Revitalizing Facial Cleansing Foam, 30ml 2 Top

Klavuu Pure Pearlsation Revitalizing Facial Cleansing Foam, 30ml – Retail Value $4.95

This K-beauty award-winning foam cleanser removes makeup and impurities. It has brightening and anti-aging benefits and leaves skin clear and clean. When added to water, this cleanser turns into a lux and silky foam that smells like coconut water to me. It left my skin clean and clear but also a little dry.

BomiBox May 2019 Review - Pyunkang Yul Shampoo, 30ml 1 FrontBomiBox May 2019 Review - Pyunkang Yul Shampoo, 30ml 2 Top

Pyunkang Yul Shampoo, 30ml – Estimated Retail Value $1.53 (Buy a full-size 280ml bottle here for $14.30)

This shampoo promises to be nourishing, moisturizing, and provide a deep cleanse without drying out the hair or irritating the scalp. It also claims to reduce hair damage and scalp issues. I don't like this shampoo. I've used other Pyunkang products and I have the same issue removing the product from the hard glass-like bottles with very small openings. This shampoo also does not have a great lather or pleasant smell.

BomiBox May 2019 Review - Real Barrier Cream Cleansing Foam, 30g 1 FrontBomiBox May 2019 Review - Real Barrier Cream Cleansing Foam, 30g 2 Top

Real Barrier Cream Cleansing Foam, 30g – Estimated Retail Value $4.32 (Buy a full-size 170g bottle here for $21.60)

This moisturizing cleanser promises to cleanse and protect skin without leaving it too tight or too oily. There is something in this cleanser that does not agree with my skin! What started off as slightly irritating quickly turned into a burning sensation. I’m surprised that this cleanser claims to be perfect for dry sensitive skin like I have. But, maybe this issue is specific to my skin. I’ve never experienced this before and didn’t have any issue with the Real Barrier products in last month’s box.

BomiBox May 2019 Review - Dr. Gloderm Eye Mask Night 1 TopBomiBox May 2019 Review - Dr. Gloderm Eye Mask Night 2 Top

Dr. Gloderm Eye Mask Night – Retail Value $3.30

This eye mask is made with hyaluronic acid and promises to moisturize, soothe and brighten the eye area. After cleansing my face with the Klavuu cleanser included in this month’s box, I applied the eye mask and left it on for 15 minutes. This mask is super cute but a bit uncomfortable with the small eye openings. I was afraid that I'd get the product in my eyes.

BomiBox May 2019 Review - Mediheal Collagen Impact Essential Mask 1 TopBomiBox May 2019 Review - Mediheal Collagen Impact Essential Mask 2 Top

Mediheal Collagen Impact Essential Mask – Retail Value $2.20 (found on sale here for $1.54)

This mask contains marine collagen that helps skin retain moisture and soothes irritated and damaged skin. It also has elastin that helps make skin appear rejuvenated, more firm, plump and youthful. I like this mask. It didn’t have too much product and left my skin soft and moisturized.

The Verdict: I enjoyed trying out all the products in this month’s box. My least favorite was the shampoo. Luckily it was one of the mini sampled size items in this month’s box. The Klavuu cleanser and Glowhill hydrating creams were my favorite. Second would be the Dr. Gloderm serum if only it was in prettier packaging.

Through BomiBox, I’ve started to recognize K-beauty brands, discover my favorites and delight in the opportunity to try multiple products from the same brand. Compared to other boxes, this month’s box wasn’t great at offering a variety of products. There were two foam cleansers, two masks, and two overnight treatments along with the shampoo and sunblock. I would have liked to see a moisturizer and maybe a bath or body product instead of multiples of the same type of item.

This box cost $38.99 and has an estimated retail value of $86.20. This is a higher retail value than the last few boxes and is double the price of the box itself. This is a great value! BomiBox consistently delivers high value and the opportunity to try a wide range of unique Korean beauty products.

That box was fun. You can pull off the lid with the tiny opening of the shampoo with a pair of tweezers. Already got my June box (spoilers on their website) and since it didn’t have a cleanser included, it made up for getting two in the May box. Both were extremely gentle on my skin and enjoyed them. Overall, Bomibox has been one of my favorite subscriptions, MSA reviews enticed me to subscribe a couple months ago.

Lena – I’m playing in the products in the June box now!

Oh man, that shampoo looks like it would be a nightmare to get out of the bottle. lol

Luna, it’s not just that the bottle is small and the opening is small but it’s also hard so you can’t even squeeze it out. I love the suggestion of using tweezers to remove the top.

I got that in the May Bomibag. You just pry the translucent plastic part out of the bottle and pour, that works.

Lather isn’t required for shampoo to work, it is just something we are used to from years of using products with sulfates.

I still haven’t gotten my June Bomibag, though, and it’s halfway through July. I wonder if they are having shipping problems this month.

Ya, I figured you could pop the top off, but I just thinking about how it was originally packaged. I wonder if they tested it beforehand to see if it was usable as packaged. lol And I totally agree that lather isn’t required for a shampoo to work. I’ve used many shampoos with virtually no lather, if any at all, that I’ve loved. But I’ll never turn down a shampoo with a good lather either! 🙂
