Vegan Cuts Beauty Box Review – June 2019
The Vegan Cuts Beauty Box is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. All of their products are vegan (and they tend to be natural, too). They also typically include a nice mix of full-size and sample beauty items. Vegan Cuts also offers a monthly Snack Box and quarterly Makeup Box.
This review is of the $22.95 a month Vegan Cuts Beauty Box.
Vegan Cuts sends a single package to subscribers who get both the beauty and snack boxes. The beauty items are separated into a little bag. (If you do not get the snack box, I don’t think you get the little bag.)
Vegan Cuts sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box June 2019 Review
The Vegan Cuts Beauty box usually contains a variety of hair care, skincare, and bath and body products. There’s often one makeup product, as well:
Each Vegan Cuts Beauty Box comes with an information card detailing the items for that month.
Just the Goods Petal, Leaf, Root Facial Cleansing Grains – Listed Value $5 (Buy 40g for $22.66)
This is a Canadian brand and it is new to me. I used this product without reading anything about it first and I thought that it felt like washing my face with a clay mask. As it turns out, that’s basically what I was doing as the first ingredient here is kaolin. It didn’t necessarily have the properties I’m looking for in a cleanser (left a little too much oil on my skin for my liking, though your mileage may vary) but I may try mixing it up and using it as a clay mask instead. This product uses glass packaging, which seems like a good idea (avoiding plastic) but of course, many municipalities won’t recycle glass any longer so the container may end up in a landfill anyway (though it will probably do less damage than plastic packaging). One nice thing about cleansing grains like this is they are not liquid and are going to be a lot easier to travel with including getting through airport security.
Andalou Naturals Instant Pore Pure Hydro Serum Facial Mask – Retail Value $4.99
I review several K-beauty subscriptions that include face masks, and most Asian face masks are not vegan, containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, collagen, allantoin, honey, etc. So if you like sheet masks but wanted vegan ones, well, this is one option, and it doesn’t cost that much more than your average “premium” K-beauty mask. Also, this one was a great experience – the mask sheet kept the serum from evaporating during use, but the serum also didn’t take forever to dry once I Removed the mask. This has willow bark, a source of salicylic acid, so it may help with breakouts. It’s also very moisturizing.
Derma E Vitamin C Instant Radiance Facial Peel (2 oz) – Retail Value $23.95
I am always up for full-sized Derma E in a subscription box (and I see that in Vegan Cuts Beauty more than anywhere else). This is a chemical peel rather than a physical exfoliator (it uses alpha hydroxyl acids to do the exfoliation). It is also a new product in the Derma E Vitamin C product line. I didn’t find the little spatula that comes with this terribly useful; this product kind of dried on my face and I had to rinse it off. It is hard to say if there was much benefit after one use, but the nice thing is, there is enough of this to last a long while. My skin is being a problem right now so I am crossing my fingers that this does its job. Also important, so far this has not caused any sensitivity reactions in my skin, but be sure to do a patch test if you are worried.
Aethera Brightening Concentrate with Cannabis Sativa (16 mL) – Estimated Value $24 (Buy 30 mL for $45)
Cannabis (presumably without THC here…) is a popular ingredient in all sorts of products these days, but I’m not a convert yet. I am willing to try skincare products containing this ingredient, though. This is a pink gel/oil (apparently the color can vary since this is a natural product, but mine was pink and this is normal). This also has anti-inflammatory compounds like turmeric and acerola cherry (great source of antioxidants) and also papaya, which is a source of enzymes that provide a gentle peeling action, so you may not want to use this and the Derma E product at the same time, since they are both doing chemical exfoliation. Anyway, this absorbed well and I am excited about the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties for sure. (I did not notice a strong smell.) This was a new brand for me.
Bare Republic Mineral SPF 50 Neon Sunscreen Stick 2-Pack – Retail Value $14.99
This product is a miss for me. Of course, sunscreen is important, and I do stick to mineral sunscreens (I have allergic reactions to chemical ones). But these are orange and yellow. And I just cannot think of when I would ever wear colored sunscreen. I can see how this product might appeal to kids, and some of the reviews on the Bare Republic site mention that it’s good for helping you to know when it’s time to reapply sunscreen to your kids (the bright colors start to fade). But I am 41 and child-free and I wouldn’t wear yellow or orange sunscreen. I will probably pass these along to someone else.
Here are swatches of the sunscreen colors.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $73 for this month’s Vegan Cuts Beauty Box. I learned about quite a few new brands and products, which I thought was wonderful. I was a particular fan of the peel and the serum. I also thought the value was a little better distributed this month, as opposed to past months that have had, for example, a single $50+ item and then very small extras. (This month, if one item doesn’t work for you, some of the others still might.) The colored sunscreen was a little odd for me, although I can appreciate that it is useful in some situations.
