Switch is a jewelry rental service that lets you try out designer jewelry without the commitment. You pick your favorite pieces and try them out for as long as you want with a relatively small monthly fee. This is a review of the 3 pieces at a time plan. Switch also offers the option to purchase jewelry pieces at a discounted member price. For every month that you’re a member, you get a $10 credit that you can use towards the purchase of a piece of jewelry at the special member price.

Switch offers free Priority shipping via USPS (1-3 day expected arrival). Each package comes with a prepaid USPS return label, so you can leave your return for your mail carrier or drop it off at the post office if you’re the nervous type. Shipping is free both ways, and they just ask that you package it just as you received it to return to them. It’s important to save the mailer and packaging for your return.

Switch Designer Jewelry Rental Subscription Review May 2019 - Black Cloth Bag Front

This month, all of my items were inside a large black cloth bag. This is the first month that I’ve seen this bag, in the past the pieces were all contained in a sturdy black box. Within the pouch, each piece of jewelry is contained in a sleek little black pouch, this is perfect for keeping your borrowed jewelry scratch-free and in pristine condition!

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This cuff is from the Celine Phoebe Philo collection. It is a silver-tone cage cuff featuring a huge enamel navy blue disk. It slips on and is easy to adjust to fit your wrist perfectly. The inside circumference is 6”, and the total width of the bracelet is 3”, making this a statement piece.

Do Not Disturb Toulouse Tennis Bracelet (Size M) – Retail Value $1,595, Member Price $1,275

I love this rose gold and white topaz tennis bracelet! It is so pretty and pulls the light beautifully. It is an everyday type of piece, that I would truly never tire of waring. The bracelet measures 7" in length and comfortably fits my wrist.

Do Not Disturb Bodrum Cherry Earrings – Retail Value $345, Member Price $275

Cherries are everything right now, and these garnet and 14k yellow gold studs are IT. They’re the perfect fun pop of color to pair with a work outfit, playful enough for a date night, and can be dressed up or down. Do I have to send these ones back?!

The Verdict: Do Not Disturb was not a brand that I was very familiar with in the past, but is one that I have learned to love through this subscription. I am pleased with the pieces that I selected the month (duh, I selected them!) and their condition.

In this shipment, I tried out $2,560 of jewelry for $69 – which is about 2.7% of their retail value and a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too). To rent just one piece per month is $29, so you’re saving about $6 per piece to go for the larger subscription.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Pieces can get snatched up quickly, and the number of pieces they have per style varies. You may or may not see these pieces in their available inventory list – but you might just see something you like even more! This isn’t a “styled” subscription – meaning you can pick exactly what you want from the available list – it’s not selected for you based on an algorithm or your preferences.
ACTIVE DEAL: Save 50% off your first month

Value Breakdown: The member price for all 3 of these pieces is $2,125 in total. At retail, they’d cost $2,560. Members get $10.00 to put towards a piece, so that’s $2,115 to buy everything, which is around a 17% discount.

Wow. That Celine bracelet is like of amazing and it’s something I’d never wear. I could use it as a little plate on my wrist. Someone could turn that into their statement piece that they wear daily.

These prices are ridiculous. With the exception of the cherry earrings (if indeed they are gold, and because they are fab), I can’t imagine buying these. The silver tone bracelet I MIGHT wear if I’d gotten it at Target for twenty bucks. But for its price it should be minimum sterling and handmade, if not white gold. And the tennis bracelet is only topaz for way over a thousand? Erg.

I agree. I have had Rocksbox before and every piece arrived was clearly used. I can’t see how this, being another jewelry rental, would be any different.
The last thing I would do is purchase jewelry (even at these “discounted” rates) that is anything but mint condition.

The Switch Team

Hi Allison and Flo,

Thanks for writing. Regarding the Celine bracelet, even though the materials aren’t made out of fine metals, since it is authentic Celine the price is very much in line. As far as the Do Not Disturb pieces, they are made out of 14k gold, and especially for the tennis bracelet, the labor involved in setting each stone is rather time-consuming and from what we’ve seen it’s very reasonably priced!

That said, we agree that a lot of jewelry is not worth buying and that’s one of the reasons we built Switch, so you can access high-end jewelry and so we can empower people to discover and express their best selves without any limits–that you should wear what you want, when you want. And have fun doing it.

We’d love for you to try to the service yourselves and let us know what you think 🙂

Best,
The Switch Team

P.S. We hold high standards on the condition of our pieces and do believe the pictures in Colette’s post accurately tell the story 🙂
