Switch 2 Pure May 2019 Review

Switch 2 Pure items wrapped

A few of the items this month were wrapped in tissue paper to protect them and sealed with a branded S2P sticker.

Eco. Vitamin E & Flower Serum, 0.5 oz. - Retail Value $18.00

I've seen this brand quite a few times in S2P but mainly with hair care. I admit that I was sort of wary of this only because I didn't care for their hair serums since my hair is so thin and they don't work for me. I used this serum not thinking much about it but it really surprised me! Right off the bat, it smells wonderful because it has lavender oil in it (which is the dominant scent) along with neroli oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin e, and evening primrose oil. I simply loved the way this oil made my skin look and feel. I only used a very small amount but it's really light. After a few minutes, it soaks into the skin leaving my face look impossibly dewy and fresh. Really impressed with this reasonably priced facial serum!

Onne Adzuki Purifying Powder Face Scrub, 2.29 oz. - Retail Value $27.00

This is one of the most unique face scrubs I've ever seen! It is literally nothing except ground up adzuki beans and I am loving it. I found it was best once I stirred it up a little first before scooping a spoonful out since the finer powder tends to settle at the bottom. The directions say to put some in your hand and add a slight bit of water, but I opted for my trusty little mask bowl to cut down on the mess. Once I added what I thought was enough water, I stirred to form a paste which I then spread onto my cleansed face using a circular motion to get that exfoliation going. Yes, some of it fell off into my sink but this was a rather fun process because I was just spreading bean paste onto my face! After sufficient exfoliation, I rinsed my face clean with warm water and basked in my fresh skin. ONE super soothing ingredient! I am SOLD.

PLANT Apothecary Matcha Antioxidant Face Mask, 2 oz. - Retail Value $24.00

Another familiar brand from the clean beauty space is PLANT Apothecary. I'm a huge fan of their body wash (and have even purchased a full-size version after trying it from a past S2P box) and have tried a few other products from them as well. They always use USDA Organic ingredients and also work with a local nonprofit for adults with physical and mental disabilities so it's nice to know this mask is supporting great things. I LOVE a good mask and this matcha tea & chamomile has got me swooning. The scent alone is super calming even before I add a little water to a teaspoon or so of this in my small mask bowl. Although after stirring it's a little thin, I determine this is desirable to me for spreading purposes. I used a foundation brush from Sephora to paint this onto my clean face and allow it to totally dry which took 10 minutes or so. It goes from its original pale green form to a darker green once hydrated, then back to an almost white once dry. After that, I simply used a damp washcloth to wipe clean and was left with healthy balanced skin. This powder is suuuuper fine so a little bit goes a long way! Really love this one as a big matcha + chamomile fan.

Caley Beach Babe Natural Lips in Dusty Rose - Retail Value $14.00

The fourth and final product this month is a lip pencil from Caley in a beautiful Dusty Rose. I'm not a big user of lip pencils since I prefer to keep my makeup to a minimum, but this can be used as a liner or lip color on its own. I really love the color and it's right up my alley so I'll be giving it a whirl when I need a break from my go-to matte liquid lipsticks. It is incredibly creamy so it glides on really well with no chalkiness at all. The only problem is that it doesn't have any staying power, so it perhaps is better as just a liner.

Verdict: I am really impressed with this month's Switch 2 Pure! They don't always send me products I love but this time 3 out of 4 were big winners for me. The adzuki bean scrub and matcha mask were both perfect for me and the flower serum surprised me with how much I loved it. All four items have a total retail value of $83.00 which is well over the $57.00 cost of the box.

I think that Onne exfoliator would have scared me off since it looks like it’d be too rough on my skin, but I have always wanted to try Onne products, so it’s nice to see they’re being included in sub boxes now. I hope they’re included in one of the green beauty boxes I’m currently subscribed to in the near future!

Not to be a Debbie Downer but I feel like the Adzuki bean scrub is ridiculously priced if indeed it is just one ingredient. You can get a pound of adzuki beans for ten bucks on amazon (less if you buy 2+ pounds) and just grind them yourself.
