Tea Box Express April 2019 Review

You can usually expect one tea (sometimes more), one accessory, and one edible item (sometimes more) in this box. Occasionally there will be other tea-themed items as well.

Cake Bams “New Zest Friend” (1 rice cake) – Buy 12 for $34.95

This is pretty tasty for a rice cake. Probably because they took something that normally has 35-50 calories and put so much blueberry and lemon yogurt topping on it that it now comes out at a whopping 190 calories for one. I have to admit they do a nice job with the decorating, but they are not particularly good for you and should be viewed as a treat.

A Couple of Squares Inc., Easter Sugar Cookies (1.2 oz) – Buy 8 similar cookies here for $17.86

There is now an online shop for this brand which I hadn’t seen before, although we’ve received their products in several past Tea Box Express shipments. It has a limited selection of items right now. Note that the price seems extra high because it is a Canadian brand. You can change it to reflect US currency right on their site. Anyway, these are some of the most adorable cookies I’ve seen. The texture is actually kind of crunchy, which is a little strange for sugar cookies. I suppose perhaps it helps keep them shelf-stable.

Flower Pot Tea Company Coconut Escape (4 wrapped tea blooms) – Retail Value $8.99

I did the best I could to show you the flower part, although I don’t have the most appropriate equipment for brewing this type of tea. Anyway, a lot of times these blooming teas are kind of weak and flavorless and just for show, but this one actually does have a coconut flavor in addition to being really pretty.

Justea, Glowing Green Loose Tea (80g) – Retail Value $12

I am familiar with this brand because of their purple teas, but it is nice to try one of their other products. This has large, whole leaves that are grown by small farmers with no pesticides. This one is sourced in Kenya. Although I do like flavored teas, I often find myself reaching for something plain. I expect to use this up pretty quickly.

Tea Box Express April 2019 - Justea Handmade Tea Spoon Top

Justea, Hand-Carved Kenyan Tea Spoon – Retail Value $2.50

These are hand-carved tea measuring spoons and their manufacture helps provide employment for over 30 families in a village in Kenya. I find it works best for smaller (not full leaf) teas, but I do have a lot of those from various tea subscriptions so this will get plenty of use.

Verdict:  I couldn’t calculate a total value for Tea Box Express this month since some of the items weren’t sold online in the provided quantities. However, the two teas and spoon come out to about $23.49, leaving about $8.50 for the cookies and rice cake, which is actually pretty reasonable considering these are specialty, premium types of snacks with high retail values for larger sets. Although I was familiar with some of the brands, most of the individual products were new to me. I was really happy with this month’s teas as well.

To Wrap Up:
