Quirky Crate April 2019 Review
Quirky Crate samples one item from a featured artist each month; this month’s star is Mary Kate Thurman. This info card gives you a little background on Mary’s work at Smarty Pants designing quirky gifts.
On the flipside, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value.
Time to get quirky!!
Typewriter Purse - Retail value $76.95 (Found here for $38.95)
I’ve grown to love these statement pieces Quirky Crate sends out every month! They make the handiest makeup bags and are perfect for a day out when you only need a few items with you. The typewriter is a nostalgic, almost ancient piece of technology that some kids today are clueless about, but I remember! This month’s theme is about enjoying the new life Spring offers us, which can’t fully be enjoyed while constantly being plugged in -- I am liking the “unplugged” message the typewriter sends out.
Smarty Pants Paper Co. Gnome Washi Tape - Retail Value $4
Is there anything better than an adorable washi tape when you’re wrapping/unwrapping a gift or crafting? These colorful gnomes are by the featured artist this month, Mary Kate Thurman. She is the founder of Smarty Pants Paper Co. and the designer of the cutest stationery and small gifts.
Tulip Socks - Retail value $13.95 (Found here for $7.95)
I live in socks so these tulip-ed beauties found themselves a very nice home. They fit me perfectly and are the perfect balance between thick and thin. I am also actually impressed by how soft the fabric is -- so far Quirky Crate has delivered some of my very favorite socks to date. It also happens that tulips are my favorite flowers, so great choice, QC!
Rainbow Chaser Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10
It is true; I am a rainbow chaser. This design is really fun and simple, two traits I definitely jive with. The little stars at the sides add a little bit of interest around the text, and I really enjoy the pastel colors encased with the gold metal background. I was missing one of the pink backs, but I have a ton of those lying around, so not a big deal for me. This is my favorite pin from Quirky Crate, yet!
Grow Patch - Listed Value $5
Nylon patches are the perfect way to jazz up a jean jacket, backpack... anything really! I have a vast collection of succulents, so this patch is another awesome pick for me. It has a sticky adhesive on the back, so you can easily stick and restick it to most fabrics, and it should adhere without a problem. I don’t think the sticky backing could withstand the washing machine or dryer, so I would definitely recommend removing the patch before cleaning.
Tropical Bird Scarf - Listed Value $12.50
Silk scarves can add a feminine touch to any outfit, so I was looking forward to styling this one with a more casual look to let it shine. It isn’t very big (19x19), so I thought of wearing it as a headband immediately, and I think it looks really cute. I feel like a fancy lady wearing this tropical bird pattern! Silk scarves always remind me of my grandma, so this piece immediately brought a smile to my face.
Rainbow Umbrella - Listed Value $22
There is nothing that could bring more life to a drab, rainy day than this fluorescent umbrella. I absolutely adore the pops of color, and this umbrella really reminds me of the parachute in grade school that you would pop up and run under in the playground. This ‘brella is totally manual; you have to pull the handle and push a button in to extend it, which I don’t mind since sometimes the umbrellas with the buttons have a mind of their own.
Here I am with the umbrella, scarf, and bag from this month’s box--a hodge-podge of color and patterns with no regrets!
The Verdict: Quirky Crate's April box is a slam dunk for me! I really adore all of the colorful and unique items sent this month, and I really needed all of the rainbow picks to brighten up my life right now. With shipping, this box costs $43.45, and I think it is worth every penny if you are a quirky girl needing some fun, colorful flair!

Value Breakdown: Using a combination of listed values and retail values where available, the contents of this box add up to $144.40, over triple the amount of the subscription cost of $36.95 a month + $6.50 shipping. Inside of it came 7 items, which breaks down to paying approximately $6.21 per item.
