Lillypost is a monthly book subscription for childrenThey offer three subscription options: The Picture Book Box, which includes 3 books for ages 4-7, The Board Book Box, which includes 3 books for ages 0-3, and the Mixed Book Box, which includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages. From Lillypost:

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book box for $19.95 a month. This option includes both board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

Lillypost April 2019 "Exploration" Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Exploration" and they included fun facts about exploration around the world.

This card encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if you've won before!

Never Touch a Monster by Make Believe Ideas Ltd. - Retail Value $9.99 (found here for $8.81)

Our board book this month is actually one that we already own and love, but it is so cute that it will be perfect to gift to a friend! This interactive board book talks about how you should never touch a monster no matter how friendly they look. Each page features a different colorful monster with various rubber textures for a fun tactile experience. I also love the whimsical text in this book!

Norton and Alpha by Kristyna Litten - Retail Value $15.43

Norton, our main character, is a collector and inventor. He even created his own dog-like companion, Alpha, out of items he found. One day he finds something new and different that all of his usual experiments don't seem to work on. He can't quite figure out what it is until one day he throws it out. After a day of rain and a day of sunshine, he walks outside to discover that the item he threw out is something new and beautiful! My kids really liked this book and I thought it was really sweet.

Fox and the Bike Ride by Corey R. Tabor - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $9.98)

Each year these animal friends go on a bike ride together, but Fox is finding their tradition to be a bit boring, so he finds a way to turn this event into more of an adventure. I really love the illustrations in this book and I think the subject matter is great and appeals to kids, but for me as a parent, the story sort of lost me in the middle as their bike ride turns into an adventure. It's almost a little confusing, but nonetheless, the kids still enjoyed it and were able to infer what was happening from the pictures and the reactions of the animals!

Verdict: This month's Lillypost box was another good one full of unique books that my kids enjoyed! My favorite was definitely the Norton and Alpha book, but that's only because the Monster book is already a favorite in our home. While Fox and the Bike Ride isn't my favorite to read, the kids enjoy it and I love the beautiful illustrations, so overall, the curation was decent! As for the retail value, the total for our books came to $43.41 which is great for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the May box.

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Never Touch a Monster: $5.73
  • Norton & Alpha: $8.85
  • Fox and the Bike Ride: $10.31

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
