JoahBox April 2019 Review

When you first subscribe to JoahBox, there are four drop-down menus to customize your experience:

You will choose your birth month (perhaps for a birthday surprise?), skin tone (ranging from "very fair" to "dark brown"), your skin type, and if you'd prefer to receive more skincare, makeup, or both.

They recently switched from boxes to pouches shipping in a colorful bubble mailer.

Inside the mailer, you'll find a branded plastic drawstring pouch.

There's an info booklet with each delivery that goes over the included items and how to use them. It's best to hold onto this since a lot of the packaging is in Korean only.

They also send a collectible playing card with each shipment.

Merry Monde Love Crush Heart Stick Highlighter bottom of Merry Monde Love Crush Heart Stick Highlighter Merry Monde Love Crush Heart Stick Highlighter with cap off swatch of Merry Monde Love Crush Heart Stick Highlighter

Merry Monde Love Crush Heart Stick Highlighter - Retail Value $29.90, Listed Retail Value $22.00 (Found here for $11.96)

This heart-shaped highlighter is just too cute! It's about the size of a chubby lipstick so it's easy to travel with and it glides on super easily. There is a tremendous amount of sparkle to this one, so if you're looking for something subtle, this may not be the one for you. Even though I've been using a powder highlighter recently, this one is perfect for a more dewy makeup look but can be blended out as well for a softer vibe.

Wish Formula C200 Bubble Peeling Pad back of Wish Formula C200 Bubble Peeling Pad

Wish Formula C200 Bubble Peeling Pad - Retail Value $7.00, Listed Value $8.00

It wasn't until I got this mask home that I realized it had two separate parts inside the package, so I photographed it with my phone. The directions have you open the outer package, keep the pad inside and dump the solution from the peeling base in with it. You'll then kneed it around a little to get it bubbling. I didn't think it would but boy was I wrong. Once you think you've got the pad sufficiently soaked, use it to gently buff your face. I didn't see as much skin peeling up as I thought I would, but once I rinsed, there was a noticeable difference of how fresh my skin looked! It felt tight, brand new, and squeaky clean!

D'Alba White Truffle First Spray Serum back of D'Alba White Truffle First Spray Serum D'Alba White Truffle First Spray Serum with cap off

D'Alba White Truffle First Spray Serum - Retail Value $19.00, Listed Value $20.00

This is the first spray-on serum I've seen. It contains avocado oil, white truffle oil, and niacinamide that's supposed to keep your skin super hydrated. Apparently, this is the secret to the glowing skin of Korean airline hostesses. Since they travel a lot I'm sure their skin experiences many different environments that could potentially be harmful, so this can perk things up in between flights. It's really refreshing and the mist it delivers is nice and fine. I'm not sure I get as much of the hydration feeling than from more typical serums, but this one travels well and has a nice light floral scent.

Half Moon Eyes Pink Fruity Mask, Set of 3 - Retail Value $9.00

The packaging for these three little single-serving masks is so darn cute! The star ingredient in them is dragonfruit (extract) as you can see on the front and also contains talc, kaolin, allantoin, shea butter, squalane, and honey. It smells SO GOOD and I just love the pink color with little seed-like particles. I used my trusty silicone brush to scoop it out of the package and apply to my face. It was the perfect amount needed! It dries in about 10 minutes, and then you simply rinse with warm water while massaging the little particles to exfoliate as well. Very pleased with how my skin looked after this mask!

Wire Headband Wire Headband folded Wire Headband twisted together close up of Wire Headband

Wire and Microfiber Headband - Listed Retail Value $5.00 (similar found here for $3.50)

This is a great accompaniment to the masks and skincare! My hair is always in the way when I'm doing my beauty routine, and this headband does a great job at keeping it at bay. It has a wide elastic part in the back that comfortably holds all of my hair and it just needs to be simply twisted around itself in front to secure it! The wires make it stay put and means that it fits my teeny tiny head or someone with a large noggin and can be molded to look like cute bunny ears. It has "Lohas Fashion Icon/Lifestyle of Beauty" embroidered on one end of it but it's not clear to me what that is. Sometimes random English words and phrases end up on products from overseas but a quick search at least explains "LOHAS".

Verdict: This month, JoahBox sent me five items straight from Korea that were fun and useful. My fave has to be the dragonfruit masks, but I've found the headband to be super useful and am really taken by the cute highlighter. If you're excited about K-Beauty, this is a great way to explore more! For $35.95, I received around $70 worth of products this month.

Awesome box. I know many love the headbands with bunny or cat ears, and more power to them. 🙂 But I just want a regular soft headband for when I use my masks. Great products, though!

Same here, but that’s only because I’ve tried both, and I swear I don’t have a huge head, but for some reason the bunny/cat ear bands are always too tight on me, and the ears look like little nubs pointing toward the back of my head, or I can barely tie the twisty ends of the headbands let alone make them look like bunny ears. What’s weird though is that all other headbands I’ve ever tried work perfectly fine for me. I guess I just wasn’t meant to look like a cute bunny or kitty when I do my skincare routine. 🙁
