Girl-a-Tude Box May 2019 “Make a Splash” Review

Included in our box was a note for my four-year-old daughter from G-Girl that described our theme of “Make a Splash.” These notes are always so cute and I love how Girl-a-Tude encourages your girl to shine or in this case to ‘make a splash’ by trying something new or by spreading their joy to others like a splash.

“Make a Splash” T-shirt

The t-shirts always come wrapped up separately, which is definitely a fun touch! She was so excited when she heard this month’s theme and proceeded to jump up and down when she saw her shirt (see the blurry photo below). I really love this great blue color and she certainly loved the design!

This is a size Youth Small (6-8) and she usually wears a 6x so the shirts are a bit big on her, but they are soft and comfortable and the quality of the shirts we have received so far have all been nice!

Sticky Mermaid Tails – Buy 72 for $11.99

These mermaid tails are similar to the sticky hands you used to get from the grocery store toy machines, although since these are a bit thicker, they didn’t stick quite as well. She still had a lot of fun playing with hers (while it lasted) and she promptly gave one to her little brother which of course, melted my mommy heart. I love that they included two!

Make a Mermaid Stickers – Buy 24 for $6.99

My daughter loves sticker dolls and items like these so she was super excited to have these mermaids to personalize with their own sticker tails and faces. This was another cute and fun item to go with our theme and while she did give one to her brother, she quickly decided he would be okay if she went ahead and completed his mermaid since it had been days and he hadn’t done his yet. (Don’t worry, he didn’t even notice!) I love little activities like this for stashing in the diaper bag or my purse, so I might have to purchase some more of these anyway!

Inflatable Glow-in-the-Dark Pool Noodle – Buy 6 for $16.49

I really thought this was a beach ball at first until I unwrapped it and rolled it out! My daughter claims that this is her favorite item in the box, hence the reason she is hugging it here. She was so excited for her pool noodle and I admit it is a pretty fun item for a kid to receive. I actually had no idea that it was a glow-in-the-dark noodle until I looked it up just now, but I went and confirmed that the white stripes do indeed light up in the dark! She already can’t wait to use it in the pool this summer, so I can’t wait to see how excited she is when she finds out about this!

Personalized “Make a Splash” Puzzle

I LOVE when this box sends personalized items! It definitely sets them apart and this month’s puzzle is such a great idea. It came in this cute paper bag and they included a little photo of what the finished puzzle would look like, which was definitely helpful! The pieces were super thin with a soft wood like backing and they were mostly sturdy.

We started out working on it together, but it was a difficult puzzle, as they warned us in the note, so I ended up completing the majority by myself so that I could get this photo of the finished puzzle. Some of the pieces were really tricky and seemed like they fit in multiple places, which is where the photo example came in handy! While she didn’t sit still for it this time, I love that we can save this for another day when she is ready and we can even frame it and hang it up since it has her name on it.

Verdict: This month’s Girl-a-Tude box was so great! I love the “make a splash” theme with the mermaid-inspired items and I know my daughter really enjoyed everything she received! The personalized puzzle was really unique and while a lot of the items may not have had a high retail value, they all worked together and served the purpose of matching the theme while also exciting my daughter. Plus that glow-in-the-dark pool noodle is also pretty awesome! The retail value of the known items is only about $3.66, but that doesn’t include the personalized puzzle or the t-shirt, which I definitely consider the two main items. At $23.51 ($17.99 + $5.52 shipping) for this box, I think the value is there, especially when you think about the positive message they are sending!

  1. Hi Brandi, Thank you, I have looked at Eureka crate…but all of the boxes seem to be “kits” to put together a specific project….and being a household that has an art room bigger than our living room…my kids are not kit fans :o) I have ordered various beauty boxes, pusheen, owl crate, peaches and petals, boodle boxes, at different times and currently we are getting pure vida…but the “teen” age seems to be a hard fit. We have plenty of beauty supplies now…I have been keeping my eye on quirky crate and a couple of others….but my comment was more a suggestion…There are so many boxes for young kids that are currently being reviewed…… In the directory alone there are 13 pages of “kids” boxes listed…..but only 3 pages under “teens”……several clothing boxes geared towards kids are being reviewed….stitch fix, kid box, gap, etc. there are the stem boxes, the princess boxes, pley, kiwi crates, disney, pretend place etc…..and not so many geared towards teens…so when I see that they offer one geared towards that age group, I can’t help but think that I would like to see that reviewed as it is a under reviewed/represented market, and I would like to see what they are offering for that age group. If they are offering the same shirt and puzzle that they are offering for little girls…I would think this would be a miss for us. Thank you :o)

  2. I watch Dollar Tree hauls on YouTube sometimes and the main youtuber I watch regularly finds sticker face books. Probably in the coloring book section.

    • Thanks! I’ll have to check there next time I’m in! 🙂

  3. 🏊🏻‍♀️🔆As a former competitive swimmer turned lifeguard, swim instructor, coach & pool super for many years the theme/ curation of this one definitely makes me smile!😎
Your little gal is too cute, & if I had one of my own in the right age range I’d definitely be picking it up.
Heck, if the size was right I’d wear the shirt myself!🤷🏻‍♀️🔆🌊

    And b/c I can’t help myself…
🔆‼️AN IMPORTANT REMINDER TO ALL RE: NOODLES, INFLATABLES & FLOATIES:
As much fun as they can be, noodles, rafts, & other pool toys – inflatable or otherwise – should NEVER be used as a means for anyone – child or adult – to play/ float/ swim in deeper water than that in which they would be otherwise be entirely comfortable & safe. In other words, if someone cannot 💯% confidently & safely swim in an area of a pool WITHOUT the help of the noodle, ring, raft, etc s/he shouldn’t be there with it…unless of course also with an adult or other individual who is fully watching & responsible for both people (either by way of being able to easily stand or being a strong enough swimmer to support both.)
❗️And yes, this also applies to those “arm floaties”; they are NOT a safety/ floatation device & as such should NEVER be used to allow a child to swim in water that s/he cannot safely swim in without them (& FWIW, even aside from the safety issue they generally hurt more than help when it comes to learning how to swim, so it’s actually best to pass on them altogether. Promise!).

    • Thanks for the helpful information, Melissa! 🙂 This was definitely a fun curation and a cute shirt!

  4. I would also like to see a review on a box for an older girl… teenager… I have been having a hard time finding new boxes for my teen girls that are not beauty boxes. There are lots of boxes for the younger set… but I feel like not much for the 12-16 range that is not a beauty box. We have been getting Boodle box for a long time… but my oldest felt she outgrew it… and my youngest is right there too…

    • Have you tried STRONG Self(ie) ? I don’t buy it but it’s aimed at teens and there’s some cute stuff in there.

      • AMH I have been watching the Strong Selfie box…but so far I have not been impressed with the value to price ratio. And there have been a couple of repeats over the year…not exact item…but two water bottles in a year…and it is a quarterly box. The prices are also pretty high on the values for the those water bottles…these are items also easily found at places like TJ maxx for under $10…It is hard to justify when I can get a FFF box or popsugar box where the value is so much better…I am still watching though :o)

    • Thanks for your comment! Do you have any specific boxes in mind that you’d like to see reviewed? I’m not sure what type of box you’re looking for, but I can suggest a STEM box – Eureka Crate and a YA book subscription box – OwlCrate or you can check out my reviews of Bonjour Jolie (it’s a ‘period’ box, but they have some really fun themes & they send snacks and other fun goodies too!). Those are just a few I have personal experience with! 🙂

  5. Liv is so adorable! I don’t have kids of my own, but I enjoy reading the reviews when the kids are involved. I think this box is wonderful! Great curation and to me it seems like a great value with a quality tee shirt, personalized items and several toys and activities. I think it’s such a well rounded box. I pretty much raised my little sister and I would definitely have subscribed to this had sub boxes been around back then.

    • Thanks, Dani! 🙂 It really is such a cute box that gives us a smile!
