Bulu Box April 2019 Review
There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:
Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items.
There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box, although sometimes they do.
Sun Warrior Sol Good Protein Bar, Blueberry Blast, 1 bar – Buy 12 bars here for $30.57
These are vegan with brown rice, pea, and quinoa protein. I was a little apprehensive about trying them since some vegan protein bars, especially those with a lot of pea protein, don’t have a good texture, but I guess the mix of protein types here really fixed that because I enjoyed this quite a bit. One day when I had too few calories for lunch and knew I needed to do an intense workout later, I ate this and it both satisfied my hunger and provided fuel for my workout, plus the texture was pleasing.
Just ‘n Case Ginger Honey Multivitamin Herbal Supplement (3 fl oz) – Buy 12 for $36 (found here for $25)
This is basically a multivitamin/multimineral supplement with turmeric and Echinacea (which some believe can help with colds and other respiratory ailments). The flavor doesn’t *quite* cover up the vitamin taste (there are a lot of B vitamins in here and B vitamins just stand out to me, flavor-wise) although it is not bad. I am not getting a cold so I can’t say whether this works for immunity, but I already consume a lot of turmerics and take a multivitamin so I’m not sure this is something I need.
Miracle Tree Moringa Tea, Chocolate (3 bags) – Buy a box of 25 bags here for $6.99
I’ve received a lot of Miracle Tree tea from Vegan Cuts. Plain moringa tea is not particularly pleasant, but once they add flavors, Miracle Tree teas get way better. Although it is not particularly good for you to sweeten your beverages, this one feels pretty decadent when you add the contents of a honey straw. Moringa is a plant with tons of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids and may help supplement some of these compounds that you don’t get in your diet.

Gym and Tonic Unflavored Collagen Powder (22 g) – Buy 16 oz here for $40 (currently out of stock)
This sample was the only big miss for me this month because collagen isn’t vegetarian (although Bulu Box does not promise to be a vegetarian box, and you will receive non-vegetarian samples on occasion). If you don’t have my dietary restrictions, you should know that collagen protein is pretty good for improving the condition of skin, hair, and nails, and it’s also trendy these days, probably because it is compatible with the Paleo diet. The collagen source in this case is grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle raised without hormones.
Bakery on Main Instant Oatmeal in Apple Pie (1 serving) – Buy 50 Servings here for $40.42
This is gluten free--this not particularly important to me, but figured I would point it out. The ingredients are mostly oat-based (the quinoa and amaranth on the packaging are after cinnamon and sea salt in the ingredients list, so there isn’t very much of them in here), which is fine by me. The pieces are really small and not recognizable as grains, but this actually did have a pretty good texture when I added hot water. I liked the flavor, as well. The calories were a little high (at 200 per serving) for me to regularly consume this, especially since there is so much sugar in it, but that’s probably why I found it tasty…

W.O.D. Welder Handcream for Athletes (0.5 oz) – Buy 16 oz here for $27.83
I am familiar with this product from receiving it in fitness subscription boxes. It is supposed to heal rips and tears in your hands. This is not a problem I have, to be honest, so I can’t speak for its efficacy there. However, I do note that it is pretty thick and has some staying power (probably why it comes in a jar rather than a pump bottle) so I like to use it on my elbows, which are still a little rough after all of the dry winter weather we had.
Verdict: This month’s box had six samples (counting the tea bags as one item together), so for the $10 box cost, they’d average about $1.67 each. I was very happy that most of the items were vegetarian. There’s not a real theme here; it’s basically just items that may be of use to someone who wants to live an active lifestyle (hand cream, protein) or maybe has some health worries (immunity-boosting vitamins) that you might not have discovered otherwise. There was nothing particularly unusual this month but I did discover a few new products--I think the protein bar is my favorite discovery. I was happy with the box, overall.
I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, May would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $10 + free shipping, which means that each of the 6 items in the box has an average cost of $1.67.
