Bomibag April 2019 Review

There was no information card included in the package. You used to be able to find them on the BomiBox site but this month’s bag was not listed.

Bomibag April 2019 - Bunny

The bunny bags was a respectable size this month and I managed to not cut its ears off while opening the package.

Bomibag April 2019 - Bellamonster Stress Out Solution Foam

Bellamonster Stress Out Solution Foam (150 mL) – Retail Value $12.90 (found here for $11.61)

Well. I am glad I looked this product up before trying to use it. Because this is a big container and it says “oil shower” on the front and I really did not know at all what it was supposed to be. (I wish there was an information card!) It turns out to be a face cleanser. As it happens, I have been hoping to receive a cleanser in a box because I am almost out of the one I was using. This seemed to fit best with my morning routine. I feel that it helped prepare my face for makeup without totally stripping my skin of oil, and while it did foam some, it wasn’t a huge amount. I will definitely be finishing this up.

Bomibag April 2019 - Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum

Blithe Tundra Chaga Pressed Serum (10 mL) – Estimated Value $9.86 (buy 1.68 oz for $49)

This is a little different from other pressed serums I’ve received (it’s brown and mucilaginous). It is lightweight and absorbs into the skin well. Chaga is a type of mushroom that grows in the tundra biome. Chaga extract is supposed to help with fine lines and wrinkles as well as dullness and dryness. After only a few uses, I can definitely say it helps with dryness. And there is enough in here to last for a long time (for me, possibly a couple of months), so hopefully, that will allow me to see the other effects.

Bomibag April 2019 - Real Barrier Cicarelief Cream

Real Barrier Cicarelief Cream (10g) – Estimated Value $6.85 (buy 0.63 oz for $26, found here for $15.60)

This is an interesting product to receive. It is intended for irritated or sunburned skin, neither of which I have at the moment. It has calamine and the product page mentions poison ivy and such. I definitely don’t have skin that irritated at the moment. I tried it on the rougher skin on my elbows and it did absorb well and without me transferring residue everywhere. The product page also says it may be useful in avoiding the use of steroid creams so next time I get welts from eating or touching something I’m allergic to, I can give this a try.

Bomibag April 2019 - Heimish All Clean White Clay Foam

Heimish All Clean White Clay Foam (30 mL) – Estimated Value $2.80 (buy 150 g for $14, found here for $12.99)

Take the value for this one with a grain of salt as my sample container had units of milliliters and the full size is in grams and one of those is a unit of volume while the other is a unit of mass so they’re not really comparable, but then $3 or so for a cleanser sample doesn’t seem so weird, either. I like using foaming clay cleansers as step 2 in a double cleansing routine so that’s what I did here, and it worked quite nicely for that. This has kaolin, which is supposed to control excess oil (sebum) as well as clear out the pores. This does also have hydrolyzed silk, so it is not a vegan product (but you should, in general, not expect K-beauty products to be vegan).

Bomibag April 2019 - Real Barrier Extreme Cream

Real Barrier Extreme Cream (10 mL) – Estimated Value $8.40 (buy 1.7 oz for $42, found here for $29.40)

I would like to discuss the science here but there are all kinds of crazy claims and I don’t even know where to begin.  I used this as an evening moisturizer after the serum and it did hydrate nicely and I agree with the claims about it not being sticky or greasy. And then there is this sentence on the product page: “The MLE® skin barrier formula recreates the Maltese cross structure found inside healthy skin.” I Googled this and hit upon a page where someone did some electron microscopy and polarized light microscopy of skin lipids and they formed this structure that kind of looks like a Maltese cross, but when pretty much the only information on this is a Wikipedia page about one product from one manufacturer and comes with a warning that it “contains content that is written like an advertisement,” I don’t know how much that information can be trusted, especially since two compounds looking the same visually doesn’t automatically mean they will have identical behavior or properties.  This is a good example of skincare companies trying to sound sciency for consumers and why you shouldn’t believe most of that.

TL;DR this was a good moisturizer but don’t worry about all the pseudo-technical language.

VerdictI calculated a total value of $40.81 for Bomibag. That is pretty good for this subscription. (Do keep in mind, K-Beauty prices can be all over the place depending on the seller, shipping from overseas, etc.) I thought there was a better variety of products this month than last; the shower gel was probably my favorite item – it worked, it was gentle, and it was full-sized. Plus the scent agreed with me. Also, I did use or will use everything.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you subscribe today? No, your first shipment would be for May's.

Value Breakdown: At $19.99 for this subscription, you’re paying about the following per item:

  • Stress out solution foam $6.32
  • Serum $4.83
  • Cicarelief cream $3.36
  • Foaming clay cleanser $1.37
  • Extreme cream $4.11

I like your science brain! I used to do a mini blog reviewing BuluBox and some other beauty subs on the basis of “does science back up their claims?”. Not shockingly, Bulubox was only about 50/50 legit vs scammy products. Was still fun!

Hi Aly! Have you ever thought about becoming a reviewer for MSA? Even though I don’t have a knack for science (my brain absolutely refuses to retain anything science related. lol!), I still love reading more in-depth reviews about the product’s ingredients on here. I bet your reviews could be a nice addition! 🙂

This review was amazing! I never thought I’d encounter mucilaginous on MSA, so that was a treat. And your healthy skepticism and actual knowledge of science and chemistry are such a breath of fresh air in the world of skincare advertising.
That said, I’m definitely going to try and swap for the relief cream because my skin is so dang sensitive and I’m prone to hives from stress and sweat (and I live in a hot humid place!) So I’d love to try an alternative to steroid creams.
