The Birchbox package arrived today. Wow. Just wow. And not in a good way. Shampoo & conditioner were foil packets. The Davines hair milk whatever leaked out. It was the only decent sized sample. The rest? Tiny. The lipstick is tinier than any sample I’ve seen since the old days of Avon samples. I rarely complain about sub boxes. It’s a gamble. I know. But this…well, this is a step in the wrong direction for a company that intends to raise its prices. It simply cannot compete at this level with what should be free samples. I will not be renewing when my 3-month subscription runs out.

This is my 1st box after almost a year ago I canceled. I received 5 hair care items!! Why do they even bother asking your preferences!! I chose skincare and get mostly hair care. Not happy. June spoilers look crappy. Wonder if I can skip a month. Guess I am going to have to cancel again. Thought with the new price things would be better. Nope!

Just signed up again after over a year. For may I’m getting:
Liz Earle cleanse and polish hot cloth cleanser
Jane iredale lip and cheek stain
IPKN cream primer SPF 15
Number 4 soothing balm
Arrow enhance eye brightener liner
Marcelle mascara

Pretty happy with this, especially since should be also getting a free surprise box(there was a code to get another one with women’s subscription). Was looking for a new cleanser. Happy the primer has SPF, even if it’s only 15. Excited to try the number 4 balm…it’s leave in and hopefully will help with summer frizz. I hate masks and treatments you have to wash out. So the lip stain, mascara and liner are just bonuses in my book. Can’t wait to see what the surprise box will hold!

Gosh I’m so glad I cancelled this subscription, these are all the same products they’ve sent out 3 years ago!! I think I’ve gotten that protect hair protector 3 x’s while I was a subscriber!! All the products they sell on there website you’d think they would change up the samples they send out, it’s always the same ole products they send out in there subscription boxes!! I’m so glad I cancelled this subscription and now they raised the cost of there monthly boxes!! There’s NO way I’d pay $15 a month!! There’s NO way I’d EVER subscribe again to this box!! I love shopping there website and there sales, discovery kits and there limited edition boxes, now I’ll buy those bcuz they are all AMAZING deals!! Thank you and hey I don’t judge if you get this subscription, it’s all good it’s ok I guess if you want to try out new samples to find your next loved product!!

Spoilers have been up in the app for a week. I got my box yesterday.

My decision to not pick anything & let it ride backfired. I ended up with 2 brands that I received last month, 2 products with the exact same function (hair styling cream), AND 2 products that were repeat items for me (and I’ve only been an intermittent BB subscriber… there’s PLENTY of stuff I haven’t tried yet).

I did the same thing and had the same results! Our boxes sound very similar.

I emailed customer service because I received my box, and I just couldn’t stand it, lol.

I wrote a more polite version of my above comment, & the CS agent gave me 100 points. I’m pretty satisfied with that conclusion for this month, but it’s going to be haaaaard, loooooong times if this continues on. (I caved & bought a year’s sub before the price hike.)

Wow! On account 1 I am an Ace, so I got early selection, and I did choose the skin care kit. Sorry ’bout it!
On account 3, I’m getting 8 products!?! I missed out on sample selection, so these are all things they chose:
1. Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray – will swap
2. Vasanti® BrightenUp!® Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator – happy to get more!
3. Lipstick Queen Mornin’ Sunshine Lipstick – I actually bought this at Ulta but never think to use it and don’t even know where it is. Wondering if I should swap this one or keep it since I can’t find the other one. ???
4. amika Velveteen Dream Smoothing Shampoo – don’t really need it, but might try it
5. amika Velveteen Dream Smoothing Conditioner – don’t really need it, but might try it
6. amika Velveteen Dream Smoothing Balm – already have a sample I’ve never used. Might as well try that one, and if I don’t like it, I can swap this newer one.
7. Marcelle Xtension Plus Skyline Mascara – I don’t really use mascara, but what the heck? Might try it or swap it.
8. COOLA® Classic Face Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 – Unscented – also getting this product (I think) in the skin care kit. Now I can stash them in various places in case I forget to put it on before I leave the house.

Box 2: I chose the Kieh’s Ultra facial cream. I am also getting: Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle, jane iredale Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain, TOCCA Gia Eau de Parfum, Alterna CAVIAR Anti-Aging Smoothing Anti-Frizz Dry Oil Mist, and SCAPES APOTHEHAIR™ Signature Sleeping Hair Mask. I’m excited to try the hair products. The other items are largely duplicates for me.

Looks like a fun month for me! I just drive myself a little nuts trying to decide what to keep and what to swap.

Your second box is the curated one I chose. It’s a pretty good box!

Super happy for you, but if I got that box, I’d be pissed. Every product, even the ones I like, would be a repeat for me and that’s been a major complaint for a lot of people about Birchbox. I was lucky enough to get the skin kit, which also has a lot of repeats, but I’m pleased. I hope they keep improving. I will be keeping an eye on them and deciding whether to renew.

Marion

Keep the Mornin’ Sunshine. It’s basically a tinted lip balm.

Emma

Your shampoo and conditioner will probably be foil packets.

This is my third box in a 3 month sub. Everything is either identical to stuff I got from Birchbox years ago or is a black mascara. One product is a tinted version of one I sampled years ago. I tried to get one of the curated box then the kit, but they were all sold out. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I am getting:

Beauty Protector – I selected this, my hair loves it
Marcelle Mascara – always willing to try new mascara
Dr. Lipp Tint – looks good for Spring/Summer
Tocca perfume – I am a hard sell on perfume, but willing to try it
comfort zone face scrub – i love trying skin care, this one is new to me
butter London ShadowClutch-looks interesting

Considering this was my first month letting them select my remaining samples, it looks pretty good. The other boxes I would have chosen first went FAST, so the Beauty Protector spray was the best option left.

I need to cut back on my boxes, this was one i was eyeing to chop, but they survive another month 🙂

I’m getting;

– Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream
– Davines OI All in One Milk
– Davines OI Shampoo – For All Hair Types
– Davines OI Conditioner – For All Hair Types
– JUARA Coconut Illipe Hand & Nail Balm
– Dr. Lipp Moisturising Colour Tint
– TOCCA Gia Eau de Parfum
– butter LONDON ShadowClutch Wardrobe Duo

I’m excited to see the sizes of the new samples.

I am sure the shampoo/conditioner are foil packets. I love the “milk” and ended up buying the full size. The Dr Lipp is good stuff. I chose the curated box with the nail polish. I have to say that I really like Birchbox. I am not one for surprises, so I usually choose the curated box. So happy that they offered two choices. If they offer a year at $10 a month when my current year sub ends in June, I think I will bite. I am fed up with Allure and Ipsy has NEVER got my profile… even after 1.5 years! I paused eyeliner and eyeshadow, and now I receive ALL forms of highlighters and a makeup brush EVERY month. Oh, and MATTE lip products. Cancelling that too. So its Birchbox for me if they offer the $120 annual. If I really want something Ipsy offers, I will buy it on ebay. And I will buy Beautyfix if the spoilers inspire. Hopefully, this is the start of saving some money.

I got the same, except instead of Tocca and Butter London, I got a hair mask and hair smoothing balm (yes FIVE hair items!), and instead of the hand cream, I got a Marcelle mascara. Not impressed.

I was so mad I didn’t get to choose a box because the skincare and box 2 sold out immediately. Birchbox offered me first selection next month after I complained, so we’ll see how THAT works out!

They’ve really stepped up the game and increased the makeup-to-haircare ratio! I just came back to Birchbox after a three-year hiatus and took advantage of the $8.25-per-box annual deal they offered at the end of March. They got confused and sent me the April curated box TWICE. Not complaining. Then they got confused again and refunded me $10. Still not complaining.

Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser (my cloth is getting raggy, so good timing!)
Jane Iredale lip stain (my selected sample)
IPKN primer with SPF (I love this brand)
No. 4 smoothing balm (oh well, better than a shampoo sample)
Arrow waterproof eye brightener (exciting!)
Marcelle mascara ( I like wands with short bristles)

I got FIVE hair items this month, so ummm….nooooo….

Me too! And hair products are my least favorite. Two of the items serve the same purpose. And this girl is never going to have beach waves.

Alison

Box twins! I told myself I was giving Birchbox one more month to redeem themselves after the last two months were less than stellar. But dang it they did! Really stoked on this box. Especially the eye brightener .

Way to much hair care 4 of my items are hair products. Even though the questions that I answered when I signed up I chose skincare! Guess I’ll be canceling after next month..

Annie S.

And this is why I choose the curated box. My box last month was the same. I don’t like getting that many hair products in a box.

Reply ButtonReply

Paula

That’s why birchbox sold out of 2 of the curated boxes, in like, 5 minutes… they like giving out haircare products (I got FIVE)…esp cheap shampoos and conditioners…

Amber M

I’m getting 4 hair products as well and three duplicate items I have previously received. Really disappointed this month.
