Birchbox The Cleanser Try-It Kit Review
Here is the info sheet for the products included, along with the prices of their full-size counterparts.
Marcelle City Anti-Pollution Micellar Foaming Cleanser, 1.7 oz – Estimated Value $5.10 (buy the full-size version for $15)
Let’s start this review off with a winner- this was definitely my favorite cleanser in the box. I don’t feel like you need to spend a lot of money to get a good, effective cleanser (save those dollars for products like serums that you actually leave on your face!), so seeing how affordable this is made me happy. Plus, it does a great job of being gentle! It foams up nicely and leaves my face feeling clean without stripping it.
Real Chemistry Fresh-Start Foaming Cleanser, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $2.85 (buy the full-size version for $24)
I find most foaming cleansers to be gentle, and this one was no exception. One thing I found odd is that this is described as a grapefruit cleanser, but grapefruit isn’t on the full ingredients list.
Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser with Orange Extract, 0.1 oz – Estimated Value $0.90 (buy the full-size version for $38)
This exfoliating cleanser helped to smooth out my face while not being too abrasive- unless you are sensitive to orange extract, I think this would be a solid exfoliating cleanser for anyone, even those with sensitive skin. I am a bit irritated that this sample held a lot of air, though- after two uses it was hard to get any product out.
Whal Myung Meltaway Cleansing Balm, 10 grams – Estimated Value $4 (buy the full-size version for $40)
Whal Myung is a luxe K-beauty brand and I am always happy to see them in subscription boxes. This cleansing balm is super creamy and nourishing while providing a deep clean, and I thought it did a good job removing my makeup. Since this is a cleansing balm, I used it as the first cleanse in the double cleanse method, and I was happy with how it performed.
Georgette Klinger Coconut Cleansing Milk, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $1.64 (buy the full-size version for $22)
This cute little cleansing milk is made with coconut extract, cucumber extract, and coconut oil. It smells amazing, but coconut oil breaks me out so I will be passing this along.
Dr. Jart+ Dermaclear™ Micro Water, 1.01 oz – Estimated Value $3.81 (buy the full-size version for $32)
I love Dr. Jart+, and this cleansing water was a new product for me. This has some interesting ingredients like sea salt and bergamot oil, but ultimately it performed no better or worse than any other micellar water I have tried. This small size is super handy for travel, though!
Huxley Secret of Sahara Be Clean, Be Moist Cleansing Water, 1 oz – Estimated Value $4.44 (buy the full-size version for $30)
I love Huxley! This is a great cleansing water combining micellar with prickly pear seed extract, but as much as I love it, I don’t think you need this cleansing water when there are much more affordable options out there that will do the same job.
(MALIN+GOETZ) grapefruit face cleanser, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $2.25 (buy the full-size version for $36)
This foaming gel cleanser had a nice citrus scent that perks me up in the mornings, and I only needed a little bit to be able to lather up my entire face. I didn’t find this to be drying, either.
PETER THOMAS ROTH Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel, 2 oz – Estimated Value $8.94 (buy the full-size version for $38)
I love a lot of Peter Thomas Roth products, so I am not surprised that I liked this one. It has a light fruity scent (most likely due to the citrus extracts) and my face felt noticeably softer after using it.
Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser, 1 oz – Estimated Value $7 (buy the full-size version for $35)
I love Sunday Riley and this cleanser is a good one- this is what I reach for when I really want a deep cleanse. This doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, and it works great mixed with a pump of Good Genes for a flash facial!
The Verdict: I thought this kit from Birchbox did an awesome job sending a wide variety of cleansers from all types of brands- and some of the sample sizes felt really generous! This is a great way to either stock up on travel-sized cleansers to have for trips to the gym or short trips, but you also could probably find at least one cleanser here that you'll want the full-size version of. Value-wise, I calculated a total value of $40.93, which is more than double the cost of the box but a little below the promised value of $44.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this is still available.
