The Holo Hookup March 2019 “London Calling” Review

The Holo Hookup March 2019 - Cupcake Polish in Cracking On Front The Holo Hookup March 2019 - Cupcake Polish in Cracking On In Hand Back

Cupcake Polish in Cracking On, 15 mL – Estimated Value $13 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup, but check out other holographic polishes from Cupcake Polish here)

Cracking On is a grey crème holo with silver shimmer, and the overall effect gives me gunmetal vibes. The holo doesn’t really want to come out and play unless the light is hitting just right, but since this is a crème polish it applied really well with no patchiness or pooling.

The Holo Hookup March 2019 - Different Dimension in God Save The Queen Front The Holo Hookup March 2019 - Different Dimension in God Save The Queen In Hand Back

Different Dimension in God Save The Queen, 15 mL – Estimated Value $11 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup, but check out other holographic polishes from Different Dimension here)

I am not a big fan of red polishes, but Different Dimension polishes always have the best formulas. This is a deep ruby red linear holo with red micro flakes, and this truly applied opaquely and smoothly with just one coat. Normally I like to do two coats just to be sure, but this polish was ready to rock after just one.

The Holo Hookup March 2019 - Glisten & Glow in Utterly Knackered Front The Holo Hookup March 2019 - Glisten & Glow in Utterly Knackered In Hand Back

Glisten & Glow in Utterly Knackered, 15 mL – Estimated Value $12 (this is an exclusive shade made just for The Holo Hookup. Check out the other polishes offered by Glisten & Glow here)

This is a vibrant royal blue holo with purple shimmers, and I am thankful that this is a fun and bright color for spring- the rest feel a little dark and gloomy considering the gorgeous weather we are having in Louisiana right now (if you ever want to visit, March is definitely the month to do it). This shade did go on a touch thick, so I had a little pulling when I went to apply the second coat. I was able to smooth it out with relative ease, and the next time I use it I will just make sure I am doing thin coats.

The Holo Hookup March 2019 - ‘Ard as Nails in It’s All Gone Pear Shaped Front The Holo Hookup March 2019 - ‘Ard as Nails in It’s All Gone Pear Shaped In Hand Back

‘Ard as Nails in It’s All Gone Pear Shaped, 13 mL- Estimated Value $9.29 (£7.00)(this is an exclusive shade made just for the Holo Hookup. Checkout UK-based ‘Ard as Nails here)

I love the added touch of getting a UK-based nail polish brand in a box with a London theme- good job Holo Hookup! This shade is a dark denim jelly holo with multi-colored chameleon flakes. This polish definitely goes on sheer- I recommend using a base color or you're going to need at least four coats for full opacity. The multi-color flakes are gorgeous, but they didn't show up on the nail the way I would have preferred. This is definitely a unique shade, though- of that, there is no doubt.

The Verdict: The Holo Hookup is a great box if you love unique nail polish- I just wish the colors this month weren’t so gloomy!. The $44 box cost is steep, but I think it is worth it when you look at the unique, box exclusive polishes that are high quality and fun- this is definitely the only way I was going to try a polish from an overseas company!

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Sigh…I wish I could afford to spend $40 a month on nail polish. 😞 These are really beautiful. It would be nice if they had options for people where you could get 2 a month for $20, or even better, 1 a month for $10. I would love to have one new nail polish sent to my door each month. I feel like 4 a month is a bit much for the average person.

Darn. I new I should have signed up this month. I don’t feel the colors are gloomy. Perfect for 50’s weather if you ask me. We have been having so much rain here in NC that I would have been happy with these colors on my nails. I only like pastels in the heat of the summer.
