Gentleman’s Box March 2019 “Yankee” Review
This month the honoree is a gentleman athlete, apparently represented by the creamy yellow pastels and rich silky blues of the items in the box.
Also included are some Listerine tablets, so presumably the honoree also had minty fresh breath and no bacteria on his gums.
Barry Beaux Tie – Listed Value $39
An ideal tie for a summer wedding, it’s just the right blend of soft and subtle with a touch of shininess threaded into it in an organic looking vine pattern. The material is 100% cotton so it feels nice to the touch and is easy to tie.
Dapper Cats Pocket Square – Listed Value $35
This is made of gorgeous and lightweight printed silk, I like the simple pattern and the warm Mediterranean colors. It would be ideal for wiping your brow on a hot afternoon in the south of Spain as it’s also very soft and smooth on your skin. I can also confirm that it is light enough to fall slowly and billow dramatically so it’s the perfect thing to drop during an emotional goodbye.
Soft Landing Tie Bar – Listed Value $19
A solid metal, very shiny, gold plated tie bar in the shape of a baseball bat is certainly quite a statement for an outfit. To me, it would suggest that its wearer has a desire for a particular topic of conversation, which could either be historical baseball statistics or his extensive collection of novelty tie bars. If you’ve been searching for the perfect way to nonverbally communicate that then this is the accessory for you!
GOTN Socks – Listed Value $15
These are some very fresh looking spring/summer socks! The yellow and grey make them seem like they should be somehow lemon scented. They’re a little shorter than most socks and the dots on the outside translate to fluffy strands on the inside, making them slightly cozier if the weather turns cold on you, or providing extra sweat-wicking if the opposite should happen.
GOTN Laces – Listed Value $5
As any sartorially savvy gentleman knows, round wax-coated laces both stay tied better and are easier to untie than any other kind. So replacing my current laces with these is likely to make my life a little easier. They are a slightly greyish navy blue so unless they are going on blue shoes they will add a nice little accent to my footwear. They are a standard length and so will fit any regular height shoe or short boot.
Verdict: You can always rely on great ties and socks from Gentleman’s Box and this month is no exception, but the spare laces and silk pocket square are great little extras to add to any gent’s everyday rotation.
The total combined value of all the items comes to $113, so considering that the box only costs $29 a month this is very good value. The tie alone is worth more than the whole box.
