Botanic + Terre Spring 2019 Review

Botanic + Terre announced back in October that they would be switching from bi-monthly to quarterly, and begin including more lifestyle items in addition to clean beauty. Their spoilers and cost of the new quarterly box seemed to change a few times so it sounds like they're still working out the kinks.

We are extremely excited to announce that Botanic+Terre is going bigger and better! What does that mean? It means we will be offering the best of luxury beauty, ethically made fashion pieces and sustainable home products all in one box.

We will only be releasing 4 boxes per year, so a new box for you every 3 months. This will lighten product load for you, so you’re not bombarded with too much and cut down on packaging material to better our environment.

For each new season, you will be getting 5-8 beautifully made products valued at over $250 for only $69.95 with Free Shipping to USA. Shipping includes a tracking number to know when your box has been shipped and when you will be receiving it. For international subscribers, shipping cost will be $21.99 with tracking number included.

OLA Bamboo Straws, set of 6 - Retail Value $5.59 ($7.49 CAD)

Ok, so these are a pretty awesome alternative to straws. Straws have been getting a bad rap lately, and for good reason. There have been a ton of alternatives coming to the market, but these might be the ones I love the most so far. They are literally hollow bamboo shoots. Not a bamboo composite, but literally a piece of bamboo, with all of its organic imperfections and beauty! This set of 6 comes with its own cleaning brush, which I recommend using on them dry before you use because there is some bamboo debris happening inside the guys straight out of the box. They are the perfect companion to the bubbly cans of water I compulsively drink at the office.

CD Cyberderm O+Lait Cleanser, 50 ml - Retail Value $32.81 ($44.00 CAD)

This cleanser was interesting because you are meant to use it on dry skin, similar to an oil cleanser in a double cleanse routine. This is more of a super thick oily gel, and it was very heavy! It kind of smells like oatmeal, which is really pleasant. This heavy formula did a great job of pulling all the makeup off of my face and left my skin feeling oily after but in a good, moisturizing sort of way. I do think you could certainly follow up with a fave cleanser if you prefer a two-step routine. The main ingredient of this formula is skin-loving jojoba oil, which contains a ton of healthy elements for your skin.

HAN All Natural Lip Gloss in 'Nude Rose', 0.28 oz - Retail Value $15.00

This color is so effortlessly wearable! It is a perfect rosy nude on my fair skin, though I suspect it would work for most anyone. It is smooth and shiny, and not the least bit sticky. This is the kind of color I like to keep close by as it goes on without any fuss and I don't need a mirror to avoid mistakes like I do with some of my drier and bolder formulas. My lips actually felt better after a day of wearing this, super moisturized and smooth.

HAN All Natural Eyeshadow in 'Sunset', 0.11 oz. - Retail Value $15.00

This is my kind of eyeshadow. It has a little shimmer to it, but it is more of a glow than a noticeable glitter. The sheen looks super natural and dewy on my lid. This color is a beautiful warm rose gold and compliments my skin rather well. The formula is literally so smooth I can apply and blend it on my car in my tiny mirror and still look great! This is what I like to call a purse eyeshadow: a shadow shade you can just apply with your fingers in a rush in just a moment or two!

Both of these colors work really well with my skin and are effortless to apply for daily wear. Top: Lip gloss in 'Nude Rose', Bottom: Eyeshadow in 'Sunset'.

Skin Owl Eye+, 0.8 oz - Retail Value  $46.00

The formula of this eye product is really interesting and a little odd. It is something in between a gel, serum, and balm. It feels a little like soft jello. Its unique texture makes it super easy to pat onto your delicate under eye area without any rubbing or pulling. Its main ingredients are aloe, jojoba, and vitamin e, all of which are really great for skin in general and very beneficial for more delicate and thin skin. It also has a healthy dose of hyaluronic acid, which helps lock in moisture while allowing the formula to absorb into your skin. I put this in my fridge overnight and used it before makeup in the AM and wow did I look bright and bushy-tailed!

Skin Owl Maqui Oil Beauty Drops PM, 2.0 fl oz - Retail Value $85.00

I love a beauty oil, and this one is an antioxidant powerhouse! It contains Maqui oil, which the company says is a has never before been used in face oil.

SkinOwl invites you to experience the world's strongest fruit antioxidant in a never-before-seen face oil. Intended for all skin types, the Maqui Berry Drops contain antioxidants and phytochemicals that neutralize DNA-damaging free radicals and reduce cell damage.

I think I might need to try this out for a longer period of time, but I can tell you that my skin loves this stuff. It is heavy, so use it at night. I actually blended a little bit of it with a face night cream, which made application so much easier. My skin was very supple and bright in the morning.

Verdict: Botanic + Terre's had a ton of variety this month, which I really appreciate. The straws were such a nice touch and really align well with the whole natural vibe and mission of this sub. I always love getting a cleanser, and this heavy oil type was really unique and left my skin feeling like velvet. Both the eyeshadow and lipgloss were easy wins for me, and they now live in my purse for those days where I end up being (gulp) late out the front door. The beauty oil and eye serum were both really effective and from a brand that I have heard very little of. I love discovering new brands, especially clean and cruelty-free ones! This box had an overall value of around $199.40, which is great for a $69.95 box.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Are you sure that CD Cyberderm O+Lait Cleanser is included? It’s not pictured on the company’s website on the subscription page.

They just emailed me back and said that product was only for the first 200 subscribers, which they’ve already reached.

It arrived in our box for sure.

Is it pretty easy to cancel? I like the looks of this box, but I’m not sure I would like other months.

Luna

I subbed off & on to Botanic+Terre, and each time I cancelled I had to email them. I’m not sure if that’s still the case though (I cancelled around the Fall of last year).

I was subscribed a year or so ago and had to cancel kind of last minute and their customer service was very kind and understanding. Recently I purchased some of their items from previous boxes (at fantastic sale prices btw) and dealt with customer service again due to some shipping confusion (not their fault, bad info from DHL). Once again they were super helpful, friendly and very quick to respond. Hope this helps!

I love Han and Skin Owl, but I’m not totally sold on bamboo straws… intrigued. But unsure! I hate the metal ones and usually use acrylic, so bamboo is an interesting alternative which wont make me feel like I’m breaking all my teeth when I use it!

I have a set of stainless steel straws that have thin silicone sleeves at the top. They are great, no teeth bumping. I got a set of six, three thicknesses, straight and bent on Amazon for $10, with the cleaner brush.

So I thought this might end up being a question and I am happy to say that I left the straw I used all day to dry over the weekend then cleaned it with the brush again. No debris! Hope this helps 🙂

Luna

Same here. I like the idea of them, but after seeing all of the debris that comes out of them, I’d be too scared that I end up ingesting some of it no matter how much I use that scrubby thing. I was even thinking, that if I ever got those in a box, I don’t think I’d even gift them. I’d most likely just use them as a marker in my garden or something instead. lol!

Michelle

So that Bamboo debris isn’t going to happen every time they dry out?

Megan K.

I let mine dry then used the brush again and it wasn’t an issue!

I subbed to Botanic+Terre for quite a while until they switched over to a lifestyle box maybe one or two boxes ago. This box reminds me of how their box used to be, and if they keep it up, I may re-subscribe (but I feel with my luck my first box will end up being one with some sort of home product or accessory I won’t wear). I definitely look forward to future reviews. 🙂

I’m in the same boat. Unsubscribed a few months before the change. I’d been considering resubscribing since I saw some previous spoilers. I’m still unsure but I can recommend this: Stay on their email list. They recently had an amazing sale. I got some fantastic stuff at such great prices! Truth be told it was difficult not to buy almost everything they were selling. There wasn’t a TON of things, but similar to a nice little boutique sale. Most of it was beauty related but there were some home/lifestyle items as well. Luna, you might’ve already had many of the beauty items since you were subscribed more recently. But if you liked an item you could’ve grabbed another for cheap!
They packed my items very safely and securely, in two separate boxes to ensure no problems with the different kind of items/materials. Shipping takes a while because it comes from Canada and they use DHL, but it’s not as bad as some US beauty boxes have been here lately! 😄. Their customer service is stellar. You can email or message them in FB and you’ll get a very quick response. I’m so impressed with them at this pount I want to resubscribe but I am just on such product overload right now and I’m trying to cut back on my sub addiction to save money.
I’m glad the change to quarterly hasn’t been a huge mistake. I can see why they’d want to try sending a variety of different categories instead of all beauty since there’s SO MUCH competition now. Especially with the rapidly growing number of good clean/vegan beauty boxes.

I saw their most recent sale (I still get their emails 🙂 ), and of course I had to check it out, but considering all that I have and since I’m subbed to some beauty boxes, I decided to not get anything this time. But their sales are a great deal!

marie

This is exactly how I feel…. the purse in the first box after the change made me unsubscribe, plus the repeats of a couple items, but I could deal with things like straws and the sponge sheet they included one time. The makeup they choose has always ended up being my favorites and I reach for them first when I do my face. I’ll keep my eyes on the reviews and consider resubscribing if they continue like this. Fingers crossed, this WAS my all time favorite sub.

Luna

I agree…. I’m fine with the one non-beauty knick-knack type of item in the box, but when they made that one purse with that massive bow as the featured product, I knew I was out. lol!

Dani G

That purse was the reason I almost resubscribed! I thought it was so cute! 😄 Funny how different make it or break it impressions can be. I ended up getting that purse when they had a major sale! 😄
I really liked it on the model. Unfortunately in person it was smaller than I expected and not quite as nice as far as visual quality. It didn’t seem to be cheaply made, but it just wasn’t the purse I expected. I was surprised that I liked the burgundy color. I gambled because I have so many black crossbody bags already. I will probably give it away or donate it primarily because it’s just too small for me.
