Bomibag February 2019 Review
There was no information card included in the package. You used to be able to find them on the BomiBox site but this month’s bag was not listed.
The bunny bags that this comes in every month are getting smaller.
Nacific Fresh Herb Origin Toner (30 mL) – Estimated Value $5.20 (buy 150 mL for $26)
This has a scent I’d describe as herbal (I may be influenced by the name of the product, but I also don’t have a better description). It has calendula flower water and extracts; this is generally considered to be a soothing herb. There are also oat extract and allantoin, which are more soothing ingredients, as well as some antioxidants from bergamot and cocoa extracts, and niacinamide to help reduce redness. I think you would have to use this for a long time to see benefits from the various extracts, but if you are looking for a gentle, alcohol-free toner, this fits the bill. I also think this would be good if you layered it with skincare products containing similar or complementary ingredients.
Etude House Soothing Moisture Aloe Mask – Retail Value $1.99
This is primarily a moisturizing mask (it has aloe leaf extract, sodium hyaluronate, and some other carbohydrates and fats that are good for that) but it also has soothing ingredients like lavender and then actually a lot of antioxidants that are not really touted on the package but that show up in the ingredients list (like tea leaf extract, orange, and lemon extracts, etc.). Aloe is traditionally used as an after-sun remedy and this would certainly be suitable for that; I found it to be a cooling experience to use (and you could always put it in the refrigerator for a bit before use to enhance that effect).
Heimish All Clean Green Foam Facial Cleanser (30 g) – Estimated Value $2.40 (buy 150 g for $12)
This is a clear gel that actually does foam when you use it. I like foam cleansers as the second step in a dual-cleansing routine (I wear pretty heavy foundation so I do need an oil-based cleanser first) and this works well for that. This contains witch hazel, which is used in a lot of toners, and it doesn’t strip all the moisture from your skin. But, don’t accidentally get it in your eyes because I did and OUCH.
Mediheal Tea Tree Care Solution Essential Mask – Retail Value $3.50 (found here for $2)
This is a mask that is heavy on the serum and yet it doesn’t take an extra long time to dry, which is really a nice combination. This mask definitely smells a bit of tea tree oil but that is what I wanted on the day I used this one, as I had been getting lazy with skincare and was a bit broken out because of it. To really clear up your skin, you’d need to use this for a period of days, but I did find it soothing and moisturizing and tea tree extracts and oils usually work pretty well for me, so I was happy to find out about this one and to get a chance to try it.
Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner (50 mL) – Estimated Value $4.50 (buy 200 mL for $19)
OK, it is a little strange to get two toners in a subscription box. I do like toner and am always happy to get it, but I have about 6 bottles of it open around my sink right now. They are all different though so I just reach for the one that feels right at the time. The BHA here is salicylic acid so this should help if you have any breakouts. This also has snail mucin, which explains why I thought it was very thick (it is alcohol free and also contains aloe leaf water and sodium hyaluronate, so it is extra-moisturizing). I think this would be nice to use in combination with a skincare product containing tea tree oil so you could attack your breakouts from multiple angles. This is also good if you are in a part of the country that is still cold and dry.
Verdict: I calculated a total value of $17.59 for Bomibag. That is a little shy of the cost of the subscription, although take that value with a grain of salt. All the sample sizes this month were large enough for multiple uses, but smaller than the full-size items they correspond to. The companies that make these products don’t offer them in a trial size so the prorated values are decent estimates but maybe don’t paint the whole picture. Also keep in mind that prices on K-beauty products vary widely based on the source (straight from Korea, imported and sold from the US on eBay or Amazon, or maybe the brand has a US-based website). That being said, I’d still like to see maybe one more item (even a sheet mask) or a single full-sized product to round out the value a little bit.
However, the particular items provided this month were all very useful for my personal skincare concerns, so I have used and/or will be finishing everything off, myself.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you subscribe today? No, your first shipment would be for March.
