Stitch Fix Kids February 2019 Review

In our Stitch Fix Kids box, there were several bright and colorful information sheets, a set of cute stickers, and some information about their box challenge. I love that they encourage recycling of your box in such a fun way.

This is the invoice that was sent in the box. It provides specifics on the brand, size, and price of each item. They also give instructions at the bottom for how to check out and either purchase or return your items in the pre-paid postmarked envelope they provide. The items for my daughter came to a total of $230, but with the 25% discount (which they take off BEFORE they deduct the $20) and the $20 credit, our total drops down to $152.50.

This is the included style sheet, which features pictures of all the clothing and a sweet note from her stylist, Isabel, who usually does a great job of matching her style. I love that they make it more kid-friendly by adding a little maze to the outside of it!

Just a note: My daughter is 4 and is incredibly tall for her age. She is too tall for 5T, so I asked for size 6, which means most items fit her a little looser than normal!

BCBGirls Teresa Knit Ruffle Dress, Size 6X - Cost to Keep $26.00

What a perfect spring dress! This dress is super soft and flowy but has a good bit of fabric to it making it feel like a nice substantial clothing item. I love the soft mint green color and the floral pattern that features so many different colors. All of those ruffle details with the elastic waist make it such a fun dress for her to wear and it fits her really well. She loves it and wore it all afternoon!

Here is a closeup of the fabric and that adorable ruffle detail.

Capelli New York Holly Seamless Legging, Size S - Cost to Keep $12.00

These winged unicorn pants have such pretty colors and I thought for sure they would be a winner...until we attempted to put them on her (pictured below). They are stretchy but have almost no give to them and it took me a good couple of minutes to get these onto her legs. She seems like a skinny kid to me, but these were so hard to get on! She definitely would not have been able to get these on herself, so needless to say, these were not keepers!

Nine One Eight Carmyn Drop Shoulder Sweater, Size XS - Cost to Keep $20.00

This sweater was so soft and really cute on her, but she didn't like it at all. She actually informed me that she only wears dresses now. Since we are hopefully ending this cold weather soon (other than the snow storm we are getting tomorrow) I was okay with not keeping this one. I thought the quality seemed nice though and had it been earlier in the winter, I might have tried harder to convince her to give it a chance! Also, note the baggy areas of the unicorn leggings that are too long - such a strange fit!

BCBGirls Mel Cross-Back Skater Dress, Size 6X - Cost to Keep $30.00

This dress was absolutely darling and I loved it, but it was just so open in the back that it didn't seem appropriate for a four-year-old. It just showed a lot of her back, which seemed odd. I did think this dress was incredibly cute and well-made and it fit her so nicely.

I didn't realize this until I was taking pictures of her in it, but the straps actually adjust so you can make it even longer if you wanted to. What a great idea!

Capelli New York Holly Seamless Legging, Size S - Cost to Keep $12.00

These pants are so cute with the shiny metallic details in fun shapes like flamingos, pineapples and even tiny cacti. I love the colors and oddly enough these are the same brand as the unicorn leggings, but they fit completely different (pictured below). These are much softer and stretchy and much looser. They were a little long, but it wasn't as noticeable since these weren't as tight.

Rumi + Ryder The Cross Back Swing Top, Size S - Cost to Keep $16.00

I like the bright colors in this shirt and the strappy detail on the back, but other than that it was not my style or Liv's. It is supposed to be a swing top, but instead, it ended up looking a little bit boxy on her. The shirt itself is nice and thick and seems like the quality is there, but it's just not for us.

Flapdoodles Daniella Bow Detail Cold Shoulder Top, Size 6 - Cost to Keep $24.00

This shirt is so cute! I love everything about it - the white with the pale blue stripes and embroidered heart outlines, and the cold shoulder sleeves with ruffles and bows. It is such a ridiculously girly shirt that is fun and unique.

Here are some close-ups of the fun details. It is a very light, thin shirt, but there is a liner in the front to keep it from being completely see-through. This will be such a nice shirt for the beach during the summer.

Joules Raindance Waterproof Coat, Size 6 - Cost to Keep $52.00

This rain jacket is so pretty and seems to be well made. It has a nice thick shell that is still soft and is lined with soft fleece so it adds some warmth as well. I love the beautiful floral pattern and she likes that its pink!

How pretty are that pale purple and bright pink together? This jacket is waterproof and has taped seams. I would love to keep it, but I just can't justify the price tag on this one for the few cold rainy days. We tend to get more rain on the warmer days here and this coat would be too heavy for that. Although, it does seem that the StitchFix price is significantly less than the retail price.

Rumi + Ryder Flutter Sleeve Graphic Tee, Size S - Cost to Keep $16.00

We are dinosaur obsessed in our house, so I was excited to see this shirt in her fix! I love all the details from the ruffle sleeves to the rhinestone necklace she is wearing to the very punny Tea-Rex wording. It's just a cute shirt for a kid! (Pictured below)

Sovereign Code Byanka Tie Waist Cropped Pant, Size 6 - Cost to Keep $22.00

I love the idea of some nice soft, cropped pants for her to run around in, but unfortunately, this pair was so big and long on her that they ended up looking more like pajamas. Cute in theory, especially with that fun waist tie, but these didn't quite work out for us. The sizes really are all over the place with the various brands they send, so this happens to us quite frequently.

The Verdict: The items we get in our Stitch Fix Kids boxes seem to be pretty consistent as far as how many items actually work out for us each month whether due to the size or her style preference. I think her stylist is great and we always find at least one great piece that we love and a few different styles that we never would have thought to try. I still can't help but wish they modeled this after the adult service though and only sent five items at a time. I would be much more inclined to keep a piece or two that we were on the fence about if they were discounted, especially an item like that raincoat, but when they send ten items, it doesn't quite work out as well. Overall, I am still happy with this service because they have some great styles that feel pretty unique and it's fun to get to try them all on at home!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Stitch Fix curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what we got, but you will probably get something that fits your child's style and size even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $20 with free shipping and returns. The total retail value of the items inside is $230. The invoice lists the cost of each item next to it, but if I keep all of the items, then I get a 25% discount. The $20 styling fee for the box is applied to the purchase no matter how many items you keep, and in this case, it would bring the total down to $152.50. That’s a discount of around 34% for these items!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
