February 2019 Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review

Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Emory 1 Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Emory 2

Signature File & Buffer – Retail Value $5

There is no such thing as too many nail files in my book, and I adore the signature floral design. The grit on the file is only 180, which is great for gentle shaping without being too rough.

Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Scrubbers 1 Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Scrubbers 2 Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Scrubbers 3

Nail Scrubbers, Full-Size!  – Retail Value $10

I love pre-moistened nail polish removing wipes like these ones! They make removing nail polish so convenient and easy, and I don’t have to search my apartment trying to remember where I put the cotton balls. Unfortunately, I will say that these did not live up to the claim that one wipe removes the polish from all ten nails— once the wipe finished the fourth nail it really lost steam, and removing the 5th nail was a challenge.

Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Red Polish

Butter London Nail Lacquer in Come to Bed Red, 0.2 oz – Estimated Value $7.50 (buy the full-size version for $15)

Come to Bed Red is a classic Butter London red crème polish. It applies smoothly and is a true red crème. I am a little bummed that this same polish came in the last butter London mystery box, though. You can see this shade in action here.

Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Glitter 1 Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Glitter 2

Glazen Peel Off Glitter Nail Lacquer in Black Magic, 0.2 oz – Retail Value $12

I was so excited when I pulled this out of the box that internally I was chanting “peel off glitter, peel off glitter!” By far the worst part of glitter nail polish is how hard it is to remove, so I have been wanting to try these out since Butter London released them. My biggest concern was that the formula wouldn’t last- and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. As I type this the polish has been on my nails for a full seven days without a single chip. It wasn’t until I went to remove the polish that I realized I did it wrong. To remove, you soak your hand in warm water for 30 seconds and then the polish should be able to pop off. On my hand, however, it didn't budge. The instructions said to not use this product with a basecoat, and while I didn't intentionally apply a base coat, my nails do have acrylic and gel overlay on them. I guess the gel acted like a base coat inadvertently, so now I have a date with a lot of cotton balls and nail polish remover tonight.

Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Lipstick 1 Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Lipstick 2

Liquid Lipstick in Ladybird, Full-Size – Retail Value $18 (on sale here for $9)

This tomato-red lipstick has the pigment of a lipstick and the shine of a lip gloss, and honestly, this is my least favorite type of lipstick ever. I find high-shine lipsticks, this one included, to be messy, transfer frequently, and not last long.

Plush Rush Lip Liner in Red Hot, Full-Size! - Retail Value $18

This is a classic red lip liner, and I found the formula to be creamy and vibrant. My favorite part, however, is the built-in lip brush!

Butter London Valentine’s Day Mystery Bundle Review - Swatch

Here is the lipstick swatched below the lip liner

The Verdict: I think Butter London delivered on their Valentines Mystery Box, even though I wish we didn’t have a repeat polish. I’m bummed the peel off glitter polish didn’t work for me, but I am really happy to have finally been able to try the formula. Value-wise, this mystery box has a total value of $70.50. which is just below the promised value of $75.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this is still available.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $31.99 ($25 + $6.99 shipping) which means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Emory board: $2.27
  • Nail Scrubbers: $4.54
  • Come To Bed Red: $3.40
  • Black Magic: $5.44
  • Ladybird: $8.17
  • Red Hot: $8.17

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Dodged a bullet here. Don’t wear anything red.

Peel off anything is a gimmick. Glitter polishes are a PITA. Stick to scattered holos that contain no glitter. I love picture polish.

Butter London has some great linear holos…

It’s weird because I love Butter London’s makeup but not their nail polish even though nail polish is what they are known for. I love their mascara.

FYI today they have 30% off site wide, if you use the code “butter30” it will pretty much take the shipping and handling fee away.
