February 2019 Bookroo Picture Book Review

The paper this month was beautiful! It’s always a fun surprise to see what our books will be wrapped in each month.

Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of the books you receive with the board book box books listed on one side and the picture book box books on the other. This month they recommend visiting their blog to read an interview with the author of one of our books!

The Best Sweater by Lynne Garner – Retail Value $16.99

In this book, a mouse named Spindle receives a brand new sweater made for him by his grandmother for his birthday. He declares this the best sweater that he has ever seen and wears it everywhere he goes.

He wears it for as long as he can, until one day, it no longer fits over his head. His grandmother knits him a new, bigger sweater, but seeing as he is so attached to the old one, she finds a special way to repurpose it for him. This story was a sweet, innocent tale that I thought was really cute and the kids enjoyed it as well!

Good Knight, Bad Knight by Tom Knight – Retail Value $15.59

The Bad Knight in this story is dreading going back to school since he isn’t so good at schoolwork and knows the other kids will be teasing him as usual. This year he vows to prove to everyone that he can be a great knight! Especially with the help of his cousin, the Good Knight, who is coming to stay with him.

He soon learns that the Good Knight is not going to be the answer to his problems because he is a really Good Knight and good at everything. School begins to get even worse for the Bad Knight, until one day his luck changes and he becomes the one to save the day. From then on, everything seems to go a lot smoother for him and he and his cousin become good Knights together. This story was cute with a lot of fun illustrations that will appeal to kids!

Verdict: The books we received from Bookroo this month were pretty good! I liked that one was very sweet and sentimental, while the other was a bit more lighthearted and fun. They were both full of detailed illustrations that appealed to my kids and gave us a lot to talk about as we read the stories. This box costs $24.95 ($19.95 a month + $5 shipping) and the retail value of our books is $32.58, which is good value for the cute books we received!
