Frank And Oak Style Plan Sweatshirts & Blouse Review January 2019
When you first sign up for this subscription, you fill out a quick style profile that captures your sizing preferences and your sense of style. (Choose from Casual, Classic, and Creative). Then, you can pick whether you’d like a monthly or a bi-monthly plan and set your budget for each box (under $150 or $150+).
Before your box ships, you get an email inviting you to hop in and preview your order. The page that opens up has about 12 products total on the page. The three products currently set to ship in the order are at the top of the page and marked with green check marks. The top section of the page includes items that have been picked based on your preferences, but recently, Frank and Oak added a “Featured” section at the bottom of the selection page that highlights some new/trending items that you can pick from, as well.
The plan includes three items, which you can curate for yourself or let Frank and Oak choose for you. I actually was SO busy with holiday to-dos that I completely missed my Style Plan email this month! No worries—Frank and Oak used my preferences and sizes to pick three pieces that should suit me just fine. I do really love getting to “shop” my curated selection of styles each month, but I also trust Frank and Oak to pick things I’ll actually like.
Here’s my invoice.
Chiffon Gathered Sleeve Blouse in Dark Blue, Size Medium – Retail Value $79.50, Member Price $69.50 (currently on sale for $59.99)
I looove this blouse! The way it falls on me is so flattering—it’s not terribly tailored, but it’s not overly flowy or boxy either. It has a relaxed vibe while still being super smooth and polished-looking. It’s 100% polyester, but incredibly lightweight and breezy like silk. The ties on the wrist are a neat detail, too. They came knotted, but you can also tie them into little bows if you want. (I had to ask someone for help in tying a tidy bow, but hey, it looks much cuter than if I’d tried to do it myself!)
The Gym Fleece Hoodie in Gray, Size Medium – Retail Value $79.50, Member Price $69.50
I’ll admit, $69.50 is a lot to pay for a 100% cotton hoodie. In terms of weight and feel, it’s similar to the sportswear department athletic hoodies I remember stealing from my dad back in the 90s. In other words, it’s not the most unique item in the world, but that familiarity is also awesome and so comfy cozy. The difference maker is the fit and the little details. I really like where the hoodie lands on me—the hem hits me right at mid-hip, so it’s not so long that it feels like a tunic nor just short enough that it always feels like it’s scrunching up. The sleeves are wide at the shoulder, which gives it a retro vibe, and I like the seam detail running down the back of each sleeve. Y’know what my favorite part about this hoodie is? THE HOOD. In my experience, women’s hoodies are so frequently lacking in the hood department. (Like, to the point where I think wait, WHY does this even have a hood in the first place?) The hoods are usually thinner and worse, so small that they barely cover my head. (Let’s not even talk about when I have a ponytail in…) THIS hood, on the other hand, is a legit hood! It’s big and voluminous, spacious while still comfy, plus it’s chunky enough that when it’s off my head, it functions a bit like a scarf. I completely understand that’s not everyone’s style, but I am SMITTEN!!!
The Gym Fleece Hoodie in Dark Blue, Size Medium – Retail Value $79.50, Member Price $69.50
The last item I got is the same hoodie but in a dark navy color. The feels I have for the gray hoodie are exactly the same for this one, except I honestly think I like this color more. It feels less athletic for whatever reason—I feel like this sweatshirt could even be a solid brunch-at-a-trendy-new-restaurant look over a thin-striped black and white turtleneck, sleek black skinny jeans, Beatle booties, and maybe some big gold earrings to class it up.
Verdict: Frank and Oak is such a fave. I do recognize that the hoodies are on the more expensive side. (Remember though, that you can skip the month if a new clothing haul isn’t in your budget!) But the quality, as usual, is impressive. I’ve already worn one of these sweatshirts almost every day since I received them—I can attest that they wear well, wash well, and are the perfect accompaniment to a chilly January snow day, whether I’m spending it at home or out and about. I’m also eager to pair my new blouse with some chic jeans or a cute pencil skirt for my next fancy event. Obviously, Frank and Oak’s style isn’t for everyone—it definitely leans towards simplicity and a cool, modern, sort of minimalist, Scandinavian vibe. The basics are super basic, and even the more polished pieces tend to be more understated than head-turning. But personally, I love that style, especially since the simplicity of the pieces means they’re also SUPER versatile. I can mix and match them with the quirkier pieces in my closet to achieve that perfect style sweet spot I’m looking for. If you’re into that, or if you’re working on building out your collection of closet essentials (especially ones that’ll last and not stretch out or fade or fray after a few washes), I totally recommend trying Frank and Oak!
To Wrap Up:
