Box of Style Member Services

Hey guys!

It has recently come to our attention that that the Amazon Echo Look that Box of Style was offering as a gift to annual subscribers does not have functionality in countries outside of the US. We realize that this post stating that you would receive an Echo Look if you upgraded to an Annual Membership has caused confusion. We know that this is inconvenient and truly apologize for this. Box of Style will be emailing anyone who upgraded very soon to explain further and help resolve this! You can also reach them at [email protected].

I dont even know who would want this!! Fashion bloggers I guess?? Anyway I’m still annoyed that they didnt give me the full gift bundle with the black friday deal I signed up with and the replacements they offered were items from previous boxes I already had

I’ve been an on-and-off subscriber with Rachel Zoe for about 2 years now, and I have never had any of the issues everyone else is describing. I’m really shocked to hear about everyone else’s experiences.

Stay far away from this subscription box! Dealing with their customer service has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had as a consumer. It’s February and I’m still waiting for a refund of the $84.99 that I paid for the Winter Box that never arrived. After weeks of CS being unresponsive, I opened an investigation with my credit card company and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Box of Style replied to the BBB complaint saying things that were not true. I finally got someone from CS to admit to me on Jan 17 that although I had been charged a system glitch had a) caused my subscription to never be created (thank god!! I’m hoping she’s right about this) and b) for my box to never ship. She stated she issued me a refund on Jan 17, and as of Feb 1 I’m still waiting. Case in point, don’t fall for their stuff! For me, it was the Sunday Riley Luna Oil that got me to sign up…all this pain wasn’t worth it. Run from this box!

I subbed for a few boxes, but never had a problem discontinuing.

This offer is a trick because you can always get the boxes at a deep discount later in the season and do people really have a need for this thing? I mean….I could give a flying fig what anyone else thinks of my outfit. I certainly don’t want some weird stranger critiquing what I’m wearing. A weird stranger who may or may not have the same taste I do. Seems like such a waste of a product.

Reply ButtonReply

TK

Wow! I’m a little shocked to see all these negative comments. I cancelled this box last year after 2 yrs of subbing. I guess I haven’t read MSA’s comments for awhile. Fortunately I had no trouble canceling but I agree the products are second rate. Their clothing items, specially made for the box, are poorly made polyester. The jewelry, made for the box, is so low quality it breaks or turns green. And those cheap “vegan” bags…really?? Rachel Zoe herself wouldn’t be caught dead wearing this stuff!

Reply ButtonReply

Kristin

Well I must be in the minority as I have subbed on and off for a couple years with BOS and have never had any issues with customer service.

Reply ButtonReply

Em

Why??? For $15 I can get a mirror.

I know technology can do a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean it should. This just feels gimmicky.

Reply ButtonReply

Gloria

The feeling I get is much worse. If I use this I feel that I gave up my privacy.

I guess I am alone here, but I have had great experiences with customer service…..hmmm! I had a problem with a damaged item, and although it took a week for them to respond, they sent me a whole new box even though only one item was messed up. They have helped me straighten out my mistake purchasing a gift city coupon that they resolved promptly giving me options! Very courteous…, guess I have been lucky! I love Box of Style!

I subbed to the winter box for the beauty bundle on Black Friday and I received the box and 1 item of the bundle on Christmas Eve. I contacted customer service and got a response that I would receive a replacement product. They gave me a choice in Mid January of a couple of things. I received the replacement and considered my case resolved to my satisfaction as I liked the replacement product better than the original offerings. I cancelled my account since I just don’t need more stuff and always want spoilers before I decide. I just got an email that they are sending The oribe lipstick since they got more. My customer service from them has been really good, a bit slow in the beginning but great follow through. I’m sorry to hear others have had bad experiences.

Don’t do it!! You can almost always get this sub at a huge discount! There is absolutely no benefit to being an annual subscriber. So they’re essentially tricking you into paying full price for a full year. Instead hold off on subscribing and wait for the spoilers to come out each season, decide if you like the box and wait for the $25+ off coupon to be released then decide to buy.

Carey

I have a question for you folks, and Liz if you see this. I ordered the last box before Black Friday, got it end of December and cancelled immediately. I got back a message from them saying they would cancel me effective February 15th. Are they possibly saying I am gonna get charged for Feb and THEN cancelled???

Anyone else with this issue?

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

They did the same thing to me and I wrote back to them that I didn’t want to wait until February 14 I wanted it cancelled now. They wrote back okay and then I got a cancellation email. You should write back and say no I want it cancelled now!

Tlc

Sounds like they keep people subscribed for as long as possible. Maybe for accounting purposes. Reporting for q4 May have needed some padding…

VA

This is a terrible company to have to deal with. Buyer beware! No amount of promoting anything will ever sway me to subscribe again. I unsubscribed over a year ago but it seems like they just get worse. I also remember last January they said they were going to do better and failed.

Reply ButtonReply

Bran

Agree. Awful custom service!!!

Reply ButtonReply

socaldeb

Just because they say you’ll get it doesn’t mean you will.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley

I don’t subscribe to this box now, but have in the past, but man, reading these comments tonight has distracted me from “Top Chef”!!

Reply ButtonReply

Karen

I think the thing that is so telling about BOS is that people have had such a wide array of different issues with customer service with this box. It’s not like there is only one problem that BOS just can’t seem to correct, like late deliveries or faulty items, but the complaints against this box are all over the board. So my personal takeaway from all of it is that the general culture at BOS just does not seem to be customer focused.

Amelia

Hi, will this be available for all international annual members also?

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

They confirmed it will be sent to all annuals, including international subscribers. Hopes that helps! 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Thanks so much Liz, that’s really exciting!

Liz Cadman

I’ll reach out and ask. I’ll follow up as soon as I hear back!

This kind of promotion almost prompts me to stop reading MSA. This company, Rachel Zoe Box of Style, is horrible. I will never do business with them again. When I see someone promoting them, I feel they have in some way been bought out, and that lowers my respect for those who promote this company. That’s just how I feel.

Reply ButtonReply

Boxy

I agree Box of Style has terrible customer service, but I still like to see updates about it.

If MSA stopped posting about every box that people complained about there would not be much content on the site!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Hi Janet,

I appreciate you sharing your feelings and I take it to heart. I’ve been in communication with Box of Style about recent customer care issues, and had a call with the head of their customer care today to express issues I’ve seen MSA readers report. Based on these conversations, I feel confident that Box of Style is making changes to address these issues, and there should be an update to share about that soon. (We’ll definitely post that here, too.) In the meantime, I wanted to post about this since it applies to all current annual subscribers.

Thanks again for voicing your concern.

Reply ButtonReply

Lawden

That’s awesome you did that Liz! I am sure that hearing from you will definitely light a fire under them! Yea! I’d love to resub again and if they get the shipping and double charging in check I’ll be ready!

Janet

Thank you Liz. I don’t expect any change, given the lies I’ve been the recipient of. Even if they do turn around, I am done with them. A company treats me poorly once, well, I gave em a shot. Twice, I would be the fool…

Kristen

Until they get these issues sorted out, though, I don’t think it’s too much to ask that there’s some sort of warning posted with these promotions. BoS scammed customers with the Black Friday bundle and had no interest in making it right. And I wouldn’t have ordered it–specifically for the items in the bundle–if I hadn’t seen it posted here. When you’re essentially advertising for them to people who trust your opinions, a heads up about the issues your readers have experienced would be nice. And it would have saved me a ton of headaches and time wasted arguing with CS.

Tlc

That’s a nice response, Liz…I’ve had mixed feelings about how reviews come across; however, you have always been respectful and professional to all. I can barely drive from one end of town to the other at times, without “snapping”….I can’t even imagine some of the emotions you may feel after reading comments about your writing, opinions, style..etc, from anonymous commenters!

Stay Classy 😊😊 and thank you for addressing the comments!

Karen

Yep, and often times even just slightly negative comments are filtered out without explanation.

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley

It’s funny you say that, because out of all the negative feedback readers have left about BoS and even Allure, I’ve only seen this kind of disclaimer on a box that I don’t think is very popular – “FYI – MSA readers have reported issues with customer care. Please read comments on spoiler + review posts before subscribing.“

Reply ButtonReply

Tlc

I agree. The only company I’ve seen that disclaimer about it oui please. Btw, Oui Please Homme rocks!

Happy Rebel has WAY more negative comments compared to Oui Please. Same with BOS..for the last year.

Oh well. The sub game is competitive. Consumers need to beware of buying from online recommendations on all fronts.

Mish

Interesting

LOVE THIS! Very on point and yay for rewarding annual subscribers! Excited to get mine. 🙂

Woo hoo, now your voluntary wiretap (that is in “always on” mode listening to your conversations) can take pictures and videos of you at anytime. That’ll be a NOPE from me…

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

your comment had me searching for a ‘like’ button jeez

Reply ButtonReply

Brynn

What about your “voluntary wiretap” cell phone? Laptop? iPad? Like come on…..

Reply ButtonReply

Lawden

😭…. yep! Gotta love all the conspiracy theorists!

Rach

True, however I have taken precautions by disabling Google assistant on all of my devices. I am not glued to my phone like most seem to be these days. I put stickers over my webcams. People do not seem to understand what information they are volunteering with these devices. You are giving corporations permission to spy on you, with your full consent. They collect data about your political, religious and personal beliefs. They know if you have children. They know your daily routines. They know if you have health problems. They then use this info. for their own monetary gain, and to advertise to you and your children. You are a consumer, a customer to them. Even the way in which news is presented to you will be based on your beliefs, rather than non-biased sources. They sell your personal information to other companies. My favorite thing is when people retort with, “Well, I don’t do anything illegal or wrong so I’m not worried about it…” Little do they know how this view affects our, and most importantly, our children’s future. This is really important to understand. It’s kind of like people submitting their DNA to those companies to see their ancestry. On the surface, it seems really interesting and a great way to see any indicators of future medical issues, etc. However, with these tests, you have voluntarily given these companies permission to own your DNA. They do not dispose of it once you get your results, they store it. In small print you will see that ultimately, this data can and WILL be used to sell to other corporations. Your personal DNA will be used against you, and even your family members that have not even been born yet. Insurance companies will be able to use this info to deny you proper coverage and to charge you higher prices…They will also be able to deny your children, and their future children… Do you get where I’m coming from, now? I encourage everyone to do their own research on these matters. Thanks.

Karen

I think the difference is that the primary purpose of this device is to deliberately take photos and videos. Plus, at least initially, this device was marketed as a fashion tool to help organize your closet and select the best outfits. They even have “style check” professionals employed by amazon to review your photos of different outfits and select the best one(s) for you. Amazon addressed privacy concerns by stating that there were “rigorous controls in place to restrict access to these images” but we all know how incredibly not secure “secure data” has proven to be. I think it’s one thing to have audio recordings susceptible to invasive hacks, but when it’s photos, potentially taken in your closet while trying on clothes, it’s a whole different level of invasion.

Everyone I know puts tape over their laptop cameras to avoid a hijacked camera (even Zuckerberg does it!) but in this case you’re potentially delivering highly personal images to hackers with a big red bow on them. I know is scared a lot of people away when Amazon first launched this product in 2017.

Mary K

Exactly, Brynn! People who think they actually have privacy in 2019 yet use a cellphone & other devices are kidding themselves. That ship has sailed.

Zo

Lol my thoughts exactly.

It was on sale for $50 but it I’m happy with my existing echos.

Nope! Not worth it.

Still waiting for my problem with my winter box to be addressed per their repeated emails and we are now into February and it was dealing with a Black Friday deal on a free gift. If you get a box, get your box, but don’t expect the free gift to be honored, I have the emails to prove. I guess it will take another 6 months for the company to remember that I still have an open, unresolved issue.

Reply ButtonReply

Bran

I had the best luck with their customer service via FB Messenger when I couldn’t get email response.

Reply ButtonReply

JSP

I agree their CS is very lacking. But keep bugging them, and they will likely come through. Let them know that you feel your only option if they can’t resolve it in a timely manner, (ie now right away, since you’ve been waiting so long) is to file a charge back claim with your CC company, since you did not receive what was promised/you paid for. After several months of their promising and not sending (though mine was a replacement for a broken item), the replacement item magically got shipped within 2 days of me saying that. Good luck!!

Reply ButtonReply

Stacey

No! Fool me once…
I just had to file a claim with my credit card for items I ordered that became out of stock and there was nothing they could do about it. I was ok with them sending replacement items but had to wait 3 weeks for the managers to get back to see if that was even a possibility. It was definitely a bait and switch to get me to sign up and extremely frustrating. Needless to say I cancelled and will not do business with them again. Even though the items I did receive were great, the headache was just not worth it.
Maybe I’m the only one this happened to and your experience will be different but would not want others to go through the stress I did.
Buyer beware…

Mish

Happened to me too. I will not purchase RZ any more

Karen

Tell me about it. This company is sooooooo shady. My story is a little different:

I subscribed for several quarters then ultimately cancelled after a 6+ boxes. Shortly after my cancellation I received an email from them asking me to “come back” for $50 for the next box. I stupidly accepted. About a week later I received a duplicate of the box I had already received. I didn’t like that box the first time (thus why I cancelled) so I certainly didn’t want a second one. I reached out to them, stating that when I “uncancelled” I was supposed to receive the next box and not another of the same box I already received (they had already issued the spoilers for the next box at this point so the box I received could never really be considered the “next box”). Afterall, I wasn’t a new subscriber. My account profile showed every delivery. Their response shocked me…they acted like they were doing me a favor by “making an exception”, stating they would allow me to return the box but I had to send the box back at my own expense ($30) since they had shipped the duplicative and erroneous box to me for free. Ok, thanks BOS. So much for customer service. They don’t even care if they are the ones that make the mistakes (like sending broken items, sending boxes with missing items or sending the wrong boxes entirely), in their eyes it is the customer’s fault. I swore I would never fall victim to their nonsense scams again.

I’m so sorry that you have had issues with them as well. It’s so maddening that they keep doing this to paying customers.

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

Don’t bother!!! They will not send you what you paid for then ignore you for weeks and delete your Facebook comments until they leave you with no option to cancel and file a claim with your credit card company!! By far the worst subscription box I have ever dealt with and I have subscribed to probably over 20 different boxes over the last few years. I don’t want someone else to go through what I have with them!

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

I wish more boxes would reward annual subscribers!

Reply ButtonReply

Joy

Case in point.

If you go with the annual you pay $350 upfront and get a $50 free gift (which is what this is retailing for). Cons: Must get all boxes whether you like them or not. Pros: you don’t have to remember to sub and unsub or use new email addresses.

Buy this in cash for $50, but every single box individually for $75 (all of them in the past year have been available for $25-$50 off) and spend $350 gradually. Cons: keeping track of cancelling. Pros: you’ll likely get even more of a discount and you can opt out of boxes you don’t want.

Personally I’d take the second option, especially given the abundance of pleather totes, exclusive acrylic clothing, and low quality costume jewelry in recent boxes. The skincare is great though. Also I’d rather spend $50 on a fun box than this toy.

Reply ButtonReply

Karen

Yep. Agree 100%. This box has a history of financially punishing annual subscribers. It’s a very bizarre business model.

Meg

I’m guessing that this will soon become a perk for seasonal subscribers as well… along with a significant discount. I’ve been a sucker (aka annual subscriber) for years and it’s not worth it when you see the crazy discounts EVERY season.
