VetPet Box (Cat Version) December 2018 Review

Every month, VetPet Box sends toys, supplies, and wellness items:

Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box. Due to some preferences at sign-up, you may not receive every item on the card, and you may occasionally receive an item that is not listed.

There is always educational material in a full-color, fold-out brochure that is sturdy enough for storage and later reference. There is a different theme every month (this material is considered to be one of the benefits of paying for the subscription, so it is not reproduced here). This month, the theme was keeping your cat(s) warm in winter. Mine are not allowed outside (Mr. Kitty occasionally tries to make a run for it, but being almost 100% blind, I don’t think he knows what he is doing and he’s not very fast, anyway) and they have discovered all the warmest places in the house, so I think we are in good shape.

On to the items:

Eicosa 3FF Snipcaps (60 count) – Listed Value $15

I am pretty sure Mr. Kitty could not handle these due to his multiple health conditions (the primary ones being inflammatory bowel disease and diabetes). He is probably the one who needs help the most, but keeping his tummy happy is a delicate balance that I don’t want to upset. Monkey is my next oldest (these can help joint and heart health) although he is still pretty agile but then again, Monkey will only eat one very specific food that is probably not ideal for him (of course!) so he is probably who is going to end up getting these. (He also doesn’t have any dietary restrictions.)

Mad Cat Yowlin Yeti – Retail Value $6.99

My cats love Mad Cat toys. This one is pretty new, just released in early November, I think (I found a press release online). These have both catnip and silvervine and Madison, Sneaky, Monkey, and Angus all showed interest. Also, I think these are really cute.

Categories Kitty Condor Catnip Toys – Total Retail Value $15.50 ($7.75 each)

I sort of just assumed these were supposed to be turkeys at first, but they are condors. (I know they don’t *look* like turkeys, but I find that pet toys often don’t look like what the label says they are supposed to be.) Anyway, these are somewhat large and oddly shaped (but smaller than most kickers). The highlight for my cats, though, is the feather crest on the head, and they also have several different fur textures going on. And I guess the catnip is good because my kitties were interested in rubbing themselves on these.

All for Paws Green Rush Crazy Cat Mat – Retail Value $18.51

This is an Angus item. We have to shut him out of the bedroom at night because he attacks other cats and makes a lot of noise, but he gets the run of the rest of the house. So I put this on a chair in the home office and it is halfway down the hall now. I think it has catnip but it also has interesting dangly toys.

Catit Lickable Treats in Scallop Flavor – Buy 30 for $17.99

My cats like the Inaba Ciao Churu lickable treats and these are similar. Interestingly, Monkey completely turned his nose up at these (but will beg for the other brand) but Sneaky and Madison were huge fans. (FYI Angus isn’t getting treats anymore because he still is having digestive issues and we are still doing lots of vet visits and testing to try to figure out what the problem is, and Mr. Kitty can pretty much only have freeze-dried duck liver for a treat.)

Havepaws Jerky Chips in Talkin Turkey (4 oz)

These are made from chicken breast and are essentially the same as the ones for dogs. I do like taking pictures of the kitties biting these, but in order for them to actually eat these, you need to break them into smaller pieces. These are pretty hard but the kitties will crunch them if they are bite-sized. Sneaky, Madison, and Monkey all liked them. I can’t find the “for cats” package available online and wonder if it is undergoing a packaging change right now.

Havepaws Jerky Chips in Cheeky Chicken

I don’t know what size this is (I couldn’t find it listed on the package, though it appears to be a smaller sample size than the turkey version), but it is just the chicken version of the turkey ones, and my cats react pretty similarly to both.

I think Angus was miffed that he didn’t get to try any of the treats, and he spent most of the time hiding this day, although he did enjoy the toys quite a bit later on (after pictures, of course).

Madison was all about the treats.

Sneaky is also all about food. She has a one-track mind. Seriously.

I like his tongue in the last picture. Monkey wasn’t super cooperative for these pictures, either, but he was better than Angus. (They have moods. Monkey is almost a teenager, you know?)

Mr. Kitty was down for rubbing his face on this toy. (If his eye area looks oily, it’s because we’re putting ointment in there right now for hydration purposes. The veterinary ophthalmologist says it is really helping.)

Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for December’s VetPet Box for cats because some items weren’t available for individual purchase and some items didn’t have prices listed on the information card. For the items where I could find prices, the total was $56, which is $10 over the cost of the box, which means all the treats were basically bonuses, so I definitely think you are getting your money’s worth, and I also don’t feel that retail values from the information card were inflated. I find this box works well for us, but we are a multi-cat household, and of course, with so many kitty health problems and four senior kitties, all of the health items are useful for someone, too.
