KitNipBox December 2018 Review
KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was a holiday/winter theme:
The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.
Max Catnip Candy Cane – Listed Value $5
This is a small, soft catnip plush. It’s a good size for tossing around or even carrying in a cat’s mouth and this one is already well-loved by Angus. I’m sure he will be bringing it downstairs one night very soon. (He brings toys downstairs to play with them at night.)
Playful Pet Mistletoe Door Dangler – Listed Value $7
Angus and Sneaky were both really into this. I dragged it around on the floor for them for pictures (below) but I will hang it in our home office for Angus to play with (he is the youngest and most active).
LEAP Snowflake Kicker – Listed Value $5
Here is a catnip plush that is a little larger than the candy cane. This has an interesting canvas texture that Monkey likes to lick.
Safemade Kitten Mitten – Listed Value $5
This is another catnip plush with a different shape and a fuzzy texture. I appreciate the different textures of these toys since my (older) cats are really interested in that sort of thing.
All for Paws Santa Hat – Listed Value $5
This is crinkly inside the hat part. It can be tossed around or snuggled with. My crew was particularly interested in the puffy ball at the end of the hat.
Max Crinkle Snowman – Listed Value $5
This is another catnip plush with some felt parts that are good for cuddling or tossing around. I expect Angus will be getting the most use out of this.
Wellness Kittles Grain Free Tuna and Cranberries Recipe (2 oz) – Retail Value $2.49 (found here for $2.25)
You’ll receive this type of treat often with this subscription, but I feel that Wellness is a quality brand and they do send different flavors. These are small, crunchy treats, and Monkey, Sneaky, and Madison (my only ones who can eat most treats) all enjoyed them.
Lately, Angus wants to play only behind or under furniture. Well, whatever. He really enjoyed the dangler toy.
Madison with some of the box items.
This day, Monkey was mostly interested in treats, though he did stop to rub his chin on a few things.
Sneaky liked the dangler, but she mostly was interested in getting treats.
You have to put toys right up in Mr. Kitty’s face for him to get a good sniff. But he is old and mostly blind. The veterinary ophthalmologist says his cornea is looking good, and he is trying to scratch it less often, so he may get the e-collar off soon.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $34.49 for the December KitNipBox. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices), so while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like Kitnipbox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Anyway, the treats were pretty popular and outside of that, I think the dangler was the clear winner. But, my cats liked all the different textures for the catnip plushes and I appreciated the different sizes and shapes (as opposed to getting a bunch of nearly the same thing, which has happened to us with other cat subscriptions).
