Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly “Disney Villains” Review September 2018 - Information Card Front

For those keeping track, this is the September box! I know the creators of Kal-Elle have been having a few shipping delays due to manufacturer issues, etc, but steadily they’re getting back on schedule. Yay!

Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly “Disney Villains” Review September 2018 - Information Card Back

This card depicts a wide variety of villains on the front, but this month’s box focuses on Jafar, Cruella de Vil, and the Queen of Hearts. The back of the card breaks down everything contained in the box.

Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly “Disney Villains” Review September 2018 - Villains Magnet Front

Villains Magnet

Each month the box includes a magnet, and each month, I put it straight on our mini-fridge! I love the cubist-inspired illustration with these bright, pop-art colors.

Villains 4 x 6 Art Print

The other item you can always expect to see in a Kal-Elle box is an art print of the characters! The trademark watercolor style is employed here to create portraits of the three featured villains, and the colors are absolutely beautiful.

Queen of Hearts Necklace

I definitely get why people love Alice in Wonderland, but growing up, it wasn’t one of my favorite Disney movies - I like the books a little better! That being said, I think the design of this necklace is really well done. The silhouette of the Queen is both simple and effective; one of those classic “double-take” pieces that will catch someone’s eye when you’re wearing it!

Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly “Disney Villains” Review September 2018 - Jafar-inspired Bracelet Wide TopKal-Elle Fandom Monthly “Disney Villains” Review September 2018 - Jafar-inspired Bracelet On Top

Jafar-inspired Bracelet

Does anyone remember when arm cuffs were cool in the, ahem, ‘90’s? I had, like, four, because I clearly needed one for every occasion. This reminds me so much of those, while also serving as a reference to Jafar’s scepter with which he does his evil sorcery. I like the tie-in of this item very much, but if I’m being honest, I think the quality of the piece is a bit low. I wish it was just a tiny bit higher in quality, even if it meant it was only a single, instead of a tripled, bracelet.

Cruella Earrings

These are a bright, fun pop of color - I especially like the colored ear wires on this style. The illustration is brightly saturated, creating a true fandom item for anyone who needs some Cruella in their life! They’re not personally my style but I’m sure I’ll have no trouble gifting them.

Kal-Elle Fandom Monthly “Disney Villains” Review September 2018 - Cruella Pom Pom Keychain Bag CloserKal-Elle Fandom Monthly “Disney Villains” Review September 2018 - Cruella Pom Pom Keychain Bag Front

Cruella Pom Pom Keychain

I don’t remember the last time I saw a keychain that was so deliciously extra. This has a fantastic black-and-white bit of fluff you’d expect, and also has a blingy bow to top it off. This would be cute to house my keys, but I don’t think would look out of place as an adornment to a beloved handbag that needs just a little somethin’!

Jafar Apron

I was super-surprised to receive an apron this month! It’s such a cool, unusual item type for a fandom box, but it’s a cool home item to include. It’s long, so I asked my 6-ft husband to model for us! The quote is a deep cut; it’s actually from “Return of Jafar,” the 1994 direct-to-video film, and not “Aladdin,” the 1992 animated feature film. I do have to point out that the phrase should be “worse than death,” not “then.” Printing issues are always a shame and this one kind of sticks with me since it’s pretty large and hard to miss. I really like the color of apron itself, though.

Verdict: Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this Kal-Elle box! While I do think the items were well-researched, not everything hit the mark as far as quality goes. The Jafar bracelet was a little cheap, and there’s no getting around it - that grammar error on the apron is a real bummer. However, I thought the magnet and art print were particularly strong this month, and the Cruella earrings, keychain, and Queen of Hearts necklace were thoughtful concepts that translated into solid finished products. I always like seeing what they come up with next, and we have quite a few great fandoms to look forward to before the year’s over, including Fantastic Beasts and Nightmare Before Christmas!

I had this box for awhile. I realized most items are bought from eBay/ lowest price from China.

Most things you can get for under a buck. Plus I never used any of it outside the art prints.

I think she should make a separate sub just for art prints alone!!

I don’t miss this box, switched to Goddess Provisions. Better quality items & actually use the items.

But does Goddess Provisions satisfy your inner GEEK? Doesn’t seem like it would!

I received this box and I while I was excited when I learned of the theme, I was VERY underwhelmed at the products I received. The Disney Villains theme had such great potential…

Then instead of Than is not as bad as death, I guess. Maybe they received a deep discount for the aprons?
