Here is the info sheet for the products included and the cost of their full-size counterparts.

Birchbox Fragrance - Clean 5ml Top

CLEAN Reserve Rain [Reserve Blend] Eau de Parfum, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $4.75 (buy the full-size version for $95)

I have enjoyed every fragrance from the Clean Reserve line and Rain is no exception. It really does emulate that delicious fresh rainfall scent and is rounded out with bergamot and patchouli. I also like that this perfume stayed with me all day— I hate when a fragrance fades fast.

Birchbox Fragrance - Vanille Blackberry 5ml Box Top Birchbox Fragrance - Vanille Blackberry 5ml Front

Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Blackberry Eau de Toilette, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $6.46 (buy the full-size version for $38)

This manages to smell just like vanilla and blackberries without smelling artificially sweet (I am having flashbacks to the body sprays I would wear as a teenager). That is due to the scent being rounded out with jasmine, rose, bergamot, and lemon. This is a great perfume if you prefer to wear lightly sweet fragrances and the full-size version isn't too pricey, either.

Birchbox Fragrance - Tocca Front Birchbox Fragrance - Tocca Opened Front

TOCCA Giulietta Eau de Parfum, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $7.20 (buy the full-size version for $72)

I love Tocca perfumes and Giulietta is a new one for me. It is a blend of Bulgarian rose, pink tulips, cedarwood, and musk, and it is alluring and feminine without being overly floral. This stayed on my pulse points all day, too.

Birchbox Fragrance - Juliette Box Top Birchbox Fragrance - Juliette Front

Juliette Has a Gun Sunny Side Up Eau de Parfum, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $6.95 (buy the full-size version for $135)

This perfume has a scent blend of sandalwood balanced with coconut milk and vanilla, and the overall smell is very woody with a touch of sweetness. This stayed on all day and I love that this sample is a spray-on rather than a roller ball.

Birchbox Fragrance - Leila Box Top Birchbox Fragrance - Leila Front

Product Listed: By Rosie Jane Leila Lou Eau de Parfum, Full-Size – Retail Value $65

Product Received: By Rosie Jane Leila Lou Perfume Oil, 0.17 oz – Retail Value $40

I’ll start off by saying that I love this perfume. It has notes of pear, jasmine, and freshly cut grass, and the overall combination is both classy and sexy. What I don't love is that the description for this box on the website says that this perfume is full-sized and it links to a 50 mL bottle that retails for $65. When I saw this 5 mL container I thought it was a mistake and I reached out to customer service. They said I did, in fact, receive a full-size version and gave me the link By Rosie Jane James roller ball as proof that this Leila Lou perfume is also full-size. It was at this point that I took another look at my bottle and saw that I was actually sent the perfume oil (which is diluted with coconut oil) rather than the Eau de Parfum. I did reach out to customer service again, and unfortunately, I never got a straight answer as to why I received a perfume oil and not the perfume, especially when (at the time this was purchased at least) it linked to the 50 mL perfume bottle. I love Birchbox, and I spent a fair amount of money at the Birchbox shop during Cyber week. However, I was really disappointed with how this was handled. I think it is deceptive to say you're going to send a full-size product and link to the full-size product, but send a different size, heck an entirely different product, (that isn't even sold by Birchbox) and call it the same. To be honest, I feel like more should have been done than being given 50 Birchbox points. What do you think? Am I being unfair?

Birchbox Fragrance - Nest 6ml Box Top Birchbox Fragrance - Nest 6ml Opened Front

NEST Fragrances Black Tulip Eau de Parfum, 0.20 oz - Estimated Value $8.71 (buy the full-size version for $74)

This is one of my all-time favorite fragrances— when I am not testing out perfumes for subscription boxes I wear it almost every day! The scent notes include black amber plum, Indonesian jasmine, and patchouli, and the combination is a really alluring scent that really just makes me feel like an empowered woman when I wear it. This is another scent that will stay all day with you, too.

Birchbox Fragrance - Juara 8.8ml Front Birchbox Fragrance - Juara 8.8ml Opened Front

JUARA Candlenut Perfume Oil, Full-Size! Retail Value $28

I was first introduced to Juara when their Candlenut Body Cream was included in the FabFitFun Winter 2015 box, and this is a perfume oil made in that same great scent of lush greens, freesia, jasmine, rose, and a hint of coconut. This gives off light and airy tropical vibes that make me want to grab a fruity drink served out of a coconut.

Birchbox Fragrance - Votivo 88.72ml Front

Votivo Red Currant Hand Cream, 3 oz - Retail Value $12

This hydrating hand cream is made with shea butter, Vitamin E, and jojoba oil, and it is sweetly scented with tart red currants, coarsely ground vanilla bean ice cream, and raspberry filled sugar cookies. Basically, this hand cream will have your fingers smelling like a snack while helping your hands to stay soft and smooth.

Birchbox Fragrance - Arizona 5ml Box Top Birchbox Fragrance - Arizona 5ml Front

Proenza Schouler Arizona Eau de Parfum, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $7.22 (buy the full-size version for $130)

This perfume stole my heart as soon as I read the description: “This perfume is inspired by the deserts of Arizona.” As a born and raised Arizona girl, the desert will always have a soft spot in my heart. This is a bold floral blend of cactus flowers with musk, and this quickly became a sentimental perfume for me.

The Verdict: If you gave this as a gift to someone who had no expectations of what to expect, this would be a home run. It is a great collection of scents with most of the bottles being nice minis rather than just a sample. Unfortunately, I read the description and I had expectations for this box that were not met, and I wasn’t happy with the customer service experience I had either. I will say I have had many positive interactions with Birchbox customer service (Shout out to Geny for helping me out yesterday, in fact!), so I think this is a fluke rather than the norm, but it is still a bummer. This box also had a significantly lower value than what was listed: my math brings up an estimated total of $121.29, and Birchbox promised a value of $168. If I had actually received the full-size Eau de perfume from By Rosie Jane, the value would have been a much more respectable $146.

The Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if I sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

  • Comptoir Sud: $2.29
  • Tocca: $2.55
  • Juliette Has A Gun: $2.46
  • By Rosie Jane: $14.18

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

The Rosie Jane perfume oil is so great! I like it better than the eau de Parfum. It’s usually around $50 by itself. But it’s a major screw up on Birchbox’s part to not correctly explain what you are getting.

I’ve experienced a lot of “bait and switch” with Birchbox lately. They’re quality has gone way down for me. The “mystery samples” are fished out of the bottom of a CVS sale bin, the gifts with purchase dont get sent, etc.

I bought this to split up between my mom & I. (She apparently has trendier taste in fragrance than I do — she loves the Juliette Has a Gun Sunny Side up scent.)

I like that recent Birchbox fragrance kits are adding in an extra, like a hand cream.

I definitely think you’re being fair about the Rosie James. Since, they didn’t even send you the actual perfume. I too snapped up this kit during Cyber week. Mine came with the actual Rosie James perfume BB advertised. But, wasn’t the 50ml the link goes to. It’s the roller ball version CS spoke to you about. As for the perfume oil you could have ended up with it by mistake because it’s currently in the other fragrance kit BB is selling.

Mine was missing the Tocca. I contacted customer service but they sent me the tiny vial sample instead of the tiny bottle. Kinda bummed since I collect the tiny bottles. . I also got the Rosie Jane oil. Oh well still happy. The Juara is a new fave!

I remember debating whether to get this a couple weeks ago and the picture on Birchbox’s site did show the perfume oil, not the full-sized bottle. I think it was a minor error on their part to include the wrong link but they listed the correct name as far as I remember and image, so I think 50 points was fair.
