Yes, Oh Yas! October 2018 Review
This month includes 4 makeup items, including a palette and a brush, and a nail lacquer. Let’s see what they sent!
The included info card lists names and values for each item and gives you an idea of the theme "Resting Witch Face". Just a note: I found some discrepancies between the values listed online and on this card. I just included the current listed value online for you below.
IBY Beauty City Limits Palette - Retail Value $20
Oh, I'm already impressed by this palette. It has 12 shades – 6 matte and 6 metallic – and I'm happy to see some nice colorful, deep shades like the navy and green. There's even a duo-chrome. I like that there are two shades that would work as transition shades (road trip and playlist) and one that can be used as a highlight. And, any of the darker shades make beautiful liners. The texture of all of them is buttery and they really pack some pigment.
Here's one quick look I created using this palette. I started with Road Trip in my crease and worked Dance Party from the middle of my lid to the outer corner. Then I blended Headliner onto the inner half of my lid. With my finger, I patted Fire & Ice over the center of my lid for some shine. I used the smudger brush (below) to sweep some Light Show (my favorite shade) onto my lower lashline. A little bit of Nightfall in my inner corners finished it off.
Skone Cosmetics Smudger Brush - Retail Value $12
This tiny smudger brush is unlike the other smudger brushes I have because it's so soft. I really like that I can work this over my lash line again and again without causing irritation, which can happen with stiffer brushes. It's perfect for really blurring out any shadow or liner for a soft, diffused look.
Mirabella Visionary Longwear Eyeshadow in Vivid, 9g - Retail Value $29 (found here for $10)
This is such a cool texture for eyeshadow. It feels like spongy mousse in the jar, applies like a cream, and quickly turns into a powder. The blendability is great and once it sets, it lasts all day. The shade is a rosy pink with gold shimmer and flecks of glitter. The glitter is the only thing stopping me from using this as a blush, which would be beautiful. See it swatched below.
STIKS Rose Lipstick - Retail Value $18
You may have seen me review another of these STIKS lipsticks before. This time around I got a rose shade which I really like. The formula is creamy and comfortable with no scent. The problem is this is the trickiest tube ever! You have to be really careful to retract the lipstick all the way before closing the lid or it will chop right through it and make a mess. Before, I wasn't crazy about the shape, but I'm getting used to it. Here it is swatched on the left of the eyeshadow.
The second look I created with this box was a simple and super fast one. After applying my tinted moisturizer, I used my finger to apply some of the eyeshadow to my lids, layering more on the outer half. Then I used what was left on my finger to give my cheeks a little flush (ok, I did use it as blush). Then I swiped on a coat of the STICKS lipstick and a coat of mascara.
NCLA 7-Free Nail Lacquer in I Been Drinkin', 13.3ml - Retail Value $16
Lastly, we have a bright watermelon pink nail lacquer. This lacquer is 7-free*, vegan, and cruelty-free. Even though it feels a little summery for this time of year, it's so beautiful I can't complain. Two coats gave opaque coverage with a smooth finish. Top it with a good clear top coat to make it last for several days.
*Contains NO Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, DBP, Toluene, Camphor, TPHP, OR XYLENE
Verdict: I'm very happy with this month's Yes, Oh Yas! It has a value of $95 which is great for a cost of $14.99 +$3.99 shipping. There is a definite pink theme this month. The palette blows me away for being only $20 and I'm super impressed with the staying power of the mousse eyeshadow from Mirabella. This is a fun and inexpensive makeup subscription to choose if you like to be totally surprised each month.
