Pur Cosmetics $40 Deluxe Mystery Grab Bag Review
Contour Blending Brush – Retail Value $24
I can never have too many makeup brushes, so I knew that this box would probably be a great fit for me. This one had densely packed bristles that are super soft while still being firm, and I think the way I will be using it is to blend bronzer into my hairline and jawlines (that is really the only contour I do, as I don’t think I look well with contoured cheeks).
Skin Perfecting Concealer Brush – Retail Value $22
I have never tried this type of brush before so I was really excited to see one in this box. This brush is so soft and dense, and it feels like I am applying my concealer with a cloud. I was happy with how well this blended my concealer in, too!
Precision Crease Brush – Retail Value $18
This brush is small and dense, and it really is perfect for applying precise lines to your crease before you blend it.
Brow Sculpt & Groom Brush – Retail Value $16
This is pretty standard as far as brow brushes go and perfume, but I am always happy to have another one!
Liquid Chisel Brush – Retail Value $23 (found here for $18)
This is designed specifically for liquid foundation, but I wasn’t really happy with the end result when I was done applying my foundation- I felt like it wasn’t as smooth and seamless as my beauty blender would leave me.
On Point Lipliner in Low Key, Full-Size! Retail Value $18
I love lipliners, and to be honest it is hard for me to find a bad one. This was creamy and applied perfectly to my lip line without budging, and I like the shade Low Key can be mixed with a variety of lipsticks since it is pretty universal.
Here is the lipliner swatched above the shadows at the very top.
Pur Pro x Etienne Ortega Eyeshadow Palette, Full-Size! Retail Value $42 (found here for $33)
Holy palette, Batman! I knew we would probably be getting a palette in this box, but this one is still a gorgeous thing to behold. I'm not familiar with Etienne Ortega, but my Instagram perusing confirms he is a pretty big deal (you have to be to do Kris Jenner’s makeup, right?). I’ll be honest - when I was swatching I wasn’t very impressed with the matte shades, as I thought they were a bit chalky. That totally wasn’t the case when my makeup brush picked up the pigment, though- they blended really well and built up pigment to exactly how I wanted them. The shimmers, specifically Penny and Moni, were spectacular- buttery smooth and so sparkly.
Here are the swatches! This palette is so big I needed both arms.
Here is the look I did using the palette and the brushes. It wasn’t my best selfie day, but that happens to the best of us. I used my liquid chisel brush to apply my foundation (that was mixed with a drop of the Cover FX glitter drops from this month’s Boxycharm!) and then followed with my concealer on my under eyes with the concealer brush. For my eyes, I started with a fluffy brush to dust Popular all over my lid. Next, I Muddy into my crease and my outer corner using the precision crease brush from this box. I patted Moni into the middle of my eyelid before finally taking a different fluffy brush and the shade Dreamer to my inner corners. It was a bit simple, but I was happy with the end result. To finish off I lined my lips with the lip liner before doing a coat of the Ciate Glitter Flip liquid lipstick and did a coat of mascara.
The Verdict: If you love eyeshadow palettes or makeup brushes this mystery box is definitely a winner. I am always happy to build my makeup brush collection, and the liquid chisel brush is the only brush in the bunch that I didn’t care for. The eyeshadow palette is gorgeous and the lipliner is super versatile, so I really do think PUR met their promise to include everything you need for a full-face look. Value-wise, I calculated a total value of $163, which is exactly what PUR promised.
