mintMONGOOSE October 2018 Review
This month, I received a matching necklace and earring set along with a woven bracelet. This has been the trend for the last several months, so I think it's safe to say that this is what I can expect each month. Let’s take a look!
But first, let’s look at the options for customization:
You can pick your preferred jewelry tone. I chose “Surprise me!”
Then you choose earrings or no earrings. My ears are pierced, so I chose “Earrings.”
Next, you choose if you want watches to be included or not. I wear my current watch exclusively, so I chose “No Watches.”
Long Gold Y-Necklace
This month, a long, gold, Y-shaped necklace is the main focus. It's similar to a lariat style except that it has a clasp and doesn't thread through in the front. The little bead that holds the chains together is stationary and hits at about bust level. The narrow gold spikes at the end of the chains are simple but shiny. This is really lightweight and seems like it probably wouldn't last long with normal wear. I have a feeling the finish would become dull or tarnish quickly. But, I am always amused by the little mongoose imprint they fit onto some of the pieces they include.
Gold Earrings
The earrings reflect the gold spikes from the necklace and are even more simple. Even though the backs are hook style, I like that they include the little silicone backs too for extra security. Again, these feel a little low-quality, but I love the versatility. It might be worth trying to find a similar pair in gold after these live out their lifespan.
Adjustable Woven Bracelet
The third item this month is a black beaded adjustable bracelet. It bothers me a little that the style is so far removed from the necklace and earring set. The last few months have also included a very different (from the set) woven bracelet like this. I know some people enjoy stacking these and that they are easy to adjust in terms of size, but they just aren't my style.
The Verdict: I appreciate how versatile the style of this necklace and earring set is and how easily it could fit into any wardrobe. My mom was modeling it here, but I can see myself wearing this style a lot too, especially with long sweater and cardigan season coming. The price for this subscription is pretty affordable at $15.70 ($12 a month plus $3.70 shipping) and the quality is reflective of that. You get fun pieces in varying styles, but they probably won't last for more than a season with normal wear. Also, I wish the bracelets would align a bit more with the style of the other jewelry for more of a cohesive feel.
