BarkBox For Large Dogs Review
This month’s theme was the Grinch which was perfect as it just started getting cold and feeling like the holidays. It’s also timed with the Grinch movie which came out earlier this month.
Ardy was definitely curious to dig around. He tends to like to explore but ultimately I knew he was honed in on the treats at the bottom of the box.
The greeting card was a nice touch when opening the box, but honestly, Ardy was ready to get to what was underneath it.
Fred The Reindeer – Retail Value $10.00
This was Ardy’s favorite of the toys and he’s still running around the house with it from time to time. While it’s a bit fuzzier than he usually goes for, he latched onto it right away and like it, even more, when he realized it had a squeaker. Despite him carrying it around with him and squeaking around the MSA office for a few weeks, the toy is holding up well.
Turkey Chew Stick – Estimated Value $3.00 (based on a different flavor in the BarkBox Shop)
The turkey chew didn’t make it out of the photo studio. Ardy ate this up in about 5 minutes while we were running through the photographs we had just taken. It was a nice one-off treat but don’t expect it to last more than one sitting.
Stink, Steak, Stunk Beef Dog Treats
You can tell Ardy liked this from his focus in the picture above. What confirmed it for me was when I came home, and I found this bag ripped open and empty. Turns out I didn’t keep his treat closet completely closed, and this is what he chose to steal from there. He looked guilty and content after eating the bag but luckily wasn’t sick to his stomach after. This all adds up to make for a good treat.
Merry Turkey Or Whatever Treat – Retail Value $5.00
Another treat that Ardy clearly liked from the photos we took. I can confirm no hands were lost in the process. This was a good treat that was solid in consistency and not too smelly, so you could throw it in your jacket pocket out on a walk.
Grinchy Gift, large – Retail Value $10.00
Good compact toy with a squeaker. It’s perfect for an indoor game of fetch, or at least that’s the use Ardy found for it.
The Grinch With Grinchy Gift
While this toy looked cool it has gotten zero attention from Ardy. We’ll probably end up handing it over to a friend’s dog during the holidays.
Max’s Antlers – Retail Value $8.00
Perfect for a photo session, but I can imagine most dogs would like to have this on for long. I held onto this in case we do some family Christmas pictures, and it’s pretty funny for a quick picture.
Verdict: Overall, I think this box was a great value. For $29 a month, including shipping, we received $36 worth of toys and treats (not including the Grinch toy and Stink, Steak, Stunk treats). Ardy is using two of the three toys consistently and none of them have broken yet. The treats are mostly gone (partially duo to his pantry raid), so I know Ardy definitely liked them. Also, the fact that none of the treats made Ardy sick to his stomach (which can be tender at times) was another win.
