The Zakka Kit September 2018 Review

info card

I believe they accidentally have the info card labeled as August although it should be September. The theme is "Summer Fruits!"

back of info card

The reverse side has all of the month's items listed out with a short description. This month has a total listed value of $26.00+ USD.

Watermelon Notecard Set

There is a heavy watermelon theme you'll see throughout this month's box and it begins with this notecard set that has two designs. One has an ant next to a watermelon slice and the other is a slice of watermelon surrounded by some flowery imagery. The paper is beautiful, made up of a fibrous shiny material complete with lines to write on. The back has the flowery design once again but in the opposite, with white against a pink background. The watermelon (and ant) on both designs are fastened on to create a slightly embossed look with its gold foil details. Each of these 2.25" x 3.25-inch cards would make great gift tags for a housewarming gift!

mt Summer Collage Washi Tape in Peach

I actually own this washi tape already and it's one of my favorites! There is a green version as well but I have to say that I like this one more. The design on the tape is really cool and has neon cloud-vibes with metallic stripes that scream summer. I use this to decorate otherwise boring packages I'm mailing out or to seal birthday cards. So cool!

KaruCut Washi Tape Cutter in Pink - Retail Value $5.90

I received one of these really neat washi tape cutters in another sub at the beginning of the year, so I will probably pass this one on to my sister-in-law who is also a big fan of washi tape! It's a tool that you simply clip onto any size roll washi tape to achieve a nice clean cut. Just clip on, hold down, and tear across the serrated edge. This cutter is nice and small so you can easily fit it in your pen pouch instead of a pair of scissors.

Sarasa Clip Dry Pen side of Sarasa Clip Dry Pen

Zebra Sarasa Dry Gel Pen in Soft Pink, 0.4mm - Retail Value $2.95

Well, this is one of my favorite pens, so I was ecstatic to see it! I love the soft pink color of the pen even though it writes with black ink. This also happens to be my favorite point size which allows for a super thin line. The clip makes it stay put in a pocket or can be attached to a notebook easily. This is the perfect pen to use with any of the included stationery!

Letterpress Summer Gift Card in package front of Letterpress Summer Gift Card back of Letterpress Summer Gift Card inside Letterpress Summer Gift Card

Letterpress Summer Gift Card

This letterpress card is on a delicate paper and has a fun fruit pattern stamped into it with pale yellow ink that allows for a blank circular center. I can see drawing something or gluing a photo onto the front to make this more special. It didn't come with an envelope, so it can be tucked into a gift bag or you can punch a hole into it to hang with a piece of ribbon from a package.

Zebra Mildliner Highlighter Zebra Mildliner Highlighter with caps off

Zebra Mildliner Double-Sided Highlighter in Pink - Retail Value $1.50

Mildliners make appearances often in Japanese stationery subscriptions and I love it. The minimal design and pale colorways make this a really lovely highlighter. It sets itself apart with its mild pink instead of the normal neon variety that highlighters normally come in. They are also dual-ended so can get a wider bold line or a thinner one from the same utensil. Truly one of my faves.

Here are writing samples of the pen and highlighter.

Summer Fruits Stickers detail of Summer Fruits Stickers

Summer Fruits Stickers

You gotta have stickers! This sheet comes with 15 "Summer Fruits" stickers that include watermelon, cherries, grapes, what looks like green mangos to me, and a single juicy peach. The hand-drawn illustrations are on a paper sticker and have a watercolor vibe to them.

Watermelon Postcard

Lastly, there's a watermelon postcard to send out before the last of the warm weather leaves. The front has a paper lantern hanging above two slices of watermelon on a plate, surrounded by some summer foliage. Again, the front has plenty of room to draw a personalized picture or message while the back has plenty of room for a letter.

Verdict: This month's Zakka Kit was really cute and full of summery fruit fun. They included a lot of my favorite items, so I am very pleased with this delivery even though I already own some of it.

I love the Zakka kits – so cute! But also pretty $$ for what you get so I only order one once in a while. 🙁 I also wish you could buy more items if you like them but they sell everything though what looks like a Japanese online auction site and it’s not easy to navigate. 🙁
