The Ms. Collection Premium Once a Month Plan October 2018 Review

This month, my stylist sent some items to help me transition into fall weather. This is my favorite season for clothing! I received a dress, a pair of jeans, 2 tops, and a crossbody purse all in beautiful fall palettes.

The info card includes some instructions for the pack, a handwritten note from my stylist, and the retail value and member price.

ASTR dress front ASTR dress side ASTR dress sleeve ASTR dress waist detail

ASTR Floral Wrap Dress, M – Retail Price $110, Member Price $88

The first item I pulled out of my pack this month is this pretty floral wrap dress. It feels very light and summery but the toned down blues and mauves make it perfect for our warmer fall too. This is a true wrap dress so it opens up completely. There are two snaps (one at the waist, one at the bust), a tie waist, and lining from the waist down to keep the dress secure and allow for a little adjustability. The crepe fabric of the body of the dress is viscose and the lining is a matching polyester. I’m loving the split arms and pleating details around the waist. Since the neckline is a bit open, I wore a bralette with some coverage up front instead of a normal bra.

Gentle Fawn top front Gentle Fawn top side Gentle Fawn top collar

Gentle Fawn Mia Top in Sea Pine Green, M – Retail Price $52, Member Price $46.80

Honestly, this top scares me a bit. It’s everything I normally don’t wear – sleeveless, high collar, open sides – all in one. While it probably isn’t the best style for me, I actually like it. The rayon/spandex mix fabric is slinky and soft, and the side slits and ties are cute details. Since a lot of area shows under the arm, I opted for the white bralette again. This would be a great piece to layer under blazers when the sides need to be less visible. The fabric does show all details of whatever is worn under it, so I had to kind of embrace that.

Articles of Society jeans front Articles of Society jeans back

Articles of Society Sarah Skinny Amsterdam, 29 – Retail Price $64, Member Price $51.20

I could immediately tell that these jeans were going to be comfy when I pulled them out of my pack. They feel soft, thick, and plush, like a sweatpant-jean. The dark wash is pretty solid with only slight feathering at the hip. The distressing around the pockets are cute and the slashes are across the top of the knees and symmetrical. I don’t really love open holes in my jeans (mostly because my foot catches them everytime I put them on). What I do like though, is that the inside is a really dark navy which shows in the slashes and at the cuffs and lends a bit of chic to otherwise casual jeans.

Everly top front Everly top back Everly top fabric detail

Everly Asymmetrical Long Sleeve Top, M – Retail Price $40.60, Member Price $32.48

I love olive tones so much, so this poly chiffon top caught my eye right away. The cut is an asymmetrical, faux wrap with a gathered area where the two sides meet. There is a stitched area at the bust to keep it closed high enough so I don’t have to worry about layering a cami. The fabric has a breezy feel but isn’t see through. Here I paired it with the AOS jeans but I think it could be tucked into a high waisted bottom for another look.

Street Level Crossbody Bag – Retail Price $47.50, Member Price $38

A fifth item! And an accessory! The rich plum faux leather of this crossbody bag is accented with gold studs and zipper details. The interior is a bright metallic gold with several pockets and different storage areas. I like that the whole interior zips up and that the straps can be removed so I can carry it as a clutch. The outside looked great but I could tell it has been used because there was a little wear on the inside. I think it’s really cute but I couldn’t fit much in it. I got my phone (which is large), a few cards, and a lip balm in there with not much room to spare. It works for a night out, but not for every day.

About Returns:

return envelope

Each pack includes a pre-paid return envelope. When you are done with your pieces, just pop them in here and drop it off at the post office. The Ms. Collection will process your return and you’ll be ready to go for your next pack. (If you are purchasing anything, just leave them out of your return package.)

A note about cleaning: You don’t have to clean the pieces before sending them back. The Ms. Collection has everything cleaned once the pieces are returned. I didn’t notice any smell (including fragranced detergent which is good for those with sensitive skin), stains, or signs of wear. Actually, everything was in perfect condition!

The Verdict: The Ms. Collection sent me some great fall styles to try this month. I like that my stylist chooses basic items with a twist. All of the items feel well-made and the colors and fabrics were beautiful this month. There are a couple of items that I probably wouldn’t purchase for myself, like the bag and the sleeveless shirt, but I appreciate being able to try them with suggestions from a stylist. And, since I’m just renting them, I don’t have to worry about getting tired of anything or having unworn items in my closet. The total retail value of this pack was $314.10 and for a price of $69 with free shipping, I think it’s a good deal for me.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? The Ms. Collection picks clothing for you based on your style preferences so your pack will be different than mine. Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: Since this is a clothing rental service, the value really comes from being able to change up and try new, styled looks every month. I also get a chance to wear high-quality brands that I wouldn’t be able to spend this kind of money on often. There is always the option to buy an item for a discounted price if you love it. Basically here is what I paid to rent each item for the month (based on retail price):

  • ASTR Dress – $24.16
  • Gentle Fawn Top – $11.42
  • Articles of Society Jeans – $14.06
  • Everly Top – $8.92
  • Street Level Bag – $10.43

  1. I wish companies like this were more transparent about their list of brands and sizes offered. I couldn’t find the info anywhere on their site, and I’ve learned my lesson from other competitors that sometimes these things are pretty prohibitively restricted (for example, one home clothing box told me that they didn’t have ANY item available in any style in sequin or velvet in my size for a November order last year when I asked for a holiday-theme box).

  2. i was sceptical about this but hat dress and the jeans are fantastic! And that bag would not have been returned

  3. Does anyone know where the service center is? I’m just wondering how many rentals can be achieved in each month…?

Will they ship out the next items once scanned for delivery or do they need to arrive in their warehouse before they send out the next round?

  4. That green top is everything! And you kill it in those jeans.

  5. But its your shoes I really want! Everything you got looks really nice, the jeans are my favorite. What if you wanted all dresses or all jeans, would they accommodate that request?
