Scent Box October 2018 Review
This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.” Although I’ve tried similar services in the past, this subscription is new for me, so let’s take a look:
The information card had a short profile of the men’s and women’s scents of the month on opposite sides.
There was also a card reminding you that you can do exchanges.
If you are familiar with some of the other fragrance sampling subscriptions, you’ll know that they have a holder for the fragrances, but that the fragrances are removable from the holder (so you can put different fragrances in the holders, or switch colors, or whatever you want). Well, for Scent Box, the holder and fragrance vial appear to be built into one unit, because I did try to twist up and remove the vial, and all I succeeded in doing was popping the top part of the sprayer off.
Amo Ferragamo by Salvatore Ferragamo – Estimated Value $9.60 (Buy 3.4 fl oz for $120)
If you are wondering how you tell the fragrances apart after you’ve been getting this for a month or two, the answer is that the fragrance information is printed on the bottom of the holder.
Moving on, I really, really like this fragrance. It is described as an Oriental floral and those are some of my favorites (as opposed to “regular” florals that smell strongly of flowers and nothing else).
Top notes include rosemary, blackcurrant, and Campari (which I am not sure I would recognize on its own, truth be told). Mid notes include rhubarb, jasmine sambac, and mate, while base notes include vanilla, sandalwood, and ambroxan.
There is a bit of an herbal start to this one but what you notice most over time, on me, are the vanilla and sandalwood, and that is one of my favorite combinations in a fragrance. It is more complex than just that; the whole blend really works well together. I am definitely a fan of this one and will wear it often.
Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month’s Scent Box is $9.60, which is below the month-to-month cost of the subscription. I am a bit more inclined to forgive that since I have never heard of this brand or fragrance before, so there was a discovery aspect to the box (and also because I love the fragrance). Plus, you don’t have to choose the “scent of the month” – you can get a more expensive fragrance. The other thing of note is that you can do exchanges, so if you end up trying something you hate, you can ask for a different fragrance, and there is definitely value in that. (Plus, none of the other, similar services offer exchanges.)
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.
