Onnit Keto Box September 2018 Review

This box came with a detailed info sheet. We also received a “gift card,” which really just had a code for 10% off the Onnit website.

Onnit krill 1 Onnit krill 2

Onnit Krill Oil, 60 ct – Retail Value $29.95 (found on sale here for $25.46)

From what I can understand online, krill oil is an amped up version of fish oil. It has phospholipids, essential fatty acids, and a carotenoid called astaxanthin that is apparently very important for my body. A proper dose is two a day, and I am happy with the smaller size compared to some of the massive fish oil pills I have come across.

Onnit chocolate 1 Onnit chocolate 2

PuraTHRIVE Liposomal Keto Balance in Chocolate, 8 oz – Retail Value $49

This is made with coconut-based MCT’s, grass-fed beef collagen, and algal DHA, all designed to boost ketone production, balance omega-3’s, combat inflammation, and help you avoid the keto flu. A serving of this liquid gold is 1 tablespoon, meaning there are only 15 servings in this bottle. That breaks down to $3.26 a day, and this big bottle will only last you about two weeks.

Onnit pork 1 Onnit pork 2

Bacon’s Heir Garlic Thyme Pork Clouds, 2 oz – Buy a 3, 2 oz bags for $10

I love pork rinds as both a low carb snack and as a substitute breading when I am craving something crunchy and fried—using this as the coating and then baking usually will satisfy the craving while still being healthy. I enjoyed the garlic and thyme herb flavor of these, and they provided a very satisfying crunch.

Onnit teriyaki 1 Onnit teriyaki 2 Onnit teriyaki 3

GimMe Organic Teriyaki Seaweed, 0.17 oz – Buy a pack of 12 bags for $14.04 (found on sale here for $13.34)

I have never eaten straight seaweed before, and I was expecting these to be a bit more crunchy. These seaweed sheets were hard to bite through, and all I could really taste was salt even though these are seaweed flavored. This wasn't my favorite snack.

Onnit pumpkin 1 Onnit pumpkin 2

Skout Pink Himalayan Sea Salt Pumpkin Seeds, 2.2 oz – Buy 6 bags for $23.95

I love pumpkin seeds! These babies were roasted with Himalayan sea salt, and they were crunchy and delicious. A serving of these pumpkin seeds has 10 grams of protein, 16 grams of fat, and only one gram of net carbs.

Onnit cheese 1 Onnit cheese 2

Mighty Cheese Crunch in Parmesan & Egg, 2 oz – Buy a pack of 3 for $18.97

Baked cheese crisps are a popular keto snack, so you can usually expect to receive a new type every month or so. These had a nice salty note from the parmesan, and it has a great crunch. One serving (about half the bag) contains 14 grams of protein, 12 grams of fat, and one 1 carb, so this is a great snack to keep you in ketosis!

Onnit matcha 1 Onnit matcha 2 Onnit matcha 3

Four Sigmatic Matcha, 2.12 oz – Retail Value $33

This is made with ceremonial grade matcha powder and powdered lions mane mushroom and ginger, designed to give you energy while keeping you feeling zen and not jittery. I found that it mixed easily with almond milk, and this definitely has the strong earthy flavor you get from matcha with no mushrooms mixed in. The light touch of ginger added a nice back note to the flavor, too.

The Verdict: This months box included a great mix of supplements and crunchy snacks! Though I couldn’t find a value for everything, the value just for the krill oil, liposome supplement, and matcha is over $110! I think that is the highest value I have seen from this box, and I think the curation is perfect for those serious about the keto lifestyle.

Since my husband went keto, our food bill has increased. It would be sky-high if he started eating pre-made snacks. I do like Onnit, and if our budget allowed, we’d be getting this box. BTW: My husband has lost 40 pounds of fat and is leaner than he’s ever been as an adult; I’ve gained 10 pounds. Go figure?

Rosemary, I learned not to focus on scale numbers. I gained 10 pounds too but my body shape changed. A bit more muscle and a little less fat 🙂

The same diet doesn’t work for everyone. I lost about 45 pounds in 2016 eating like 65% carbs (so about as far from keto as you can get). I was in my late 30s at the time. I just counted calories and exercised a lot and sometimes if I wanted cake I ate cake if it fit in my calories for the day.

Seems weird to have vegetarian DHA in a product that also contains beef collagen.

I eat seaweed snacks most days. I just fold up whole sheets into my mouth one at a time. I like the ones from Ocean’s Halo (Maui onion, Texas BBQ, and Sriracha, specifically).
