mintMONGOOSE September 2018 Review

This month, I received a matching necklace and earring set along with a woven bracelet. Let’s take a look!

But first, let’s look at the options for customization:

You can pick your preferred jewelry tone. I chose “Surprise me!”

Then you choose earrings or no earrings. My ears are pierced, so I chose “Earrings.”

Next, you choose if you want watches to be included or not. I don’t really need any more watches, so I chose “No Watches.”

set worn

Turquoise Teardrop Y-Necklace

The necklace included this month has a long, Y-shape with antiqued gold metal, small stones of varying colors, and a larger teardrop pendant in a beautiful turquoise color at the end. I like the shape of this necklace, but I find it a bit difficult to pair with the right neckline. I think a high crew neck would probably work best unless you wanted to go full V-neck.

 Turquoise Teardrop Earrings

These earrings perfectly compliment the necklace with the same teardrop shape dangling from a dainty chain. Plus, there are two ways to wear them – with the dangly teardrop (which is attached to the regular backs) or as simple studs with which you can use the included wide backs. I love when earrings have multiple ways to wear them.

Adjustable Woven Bracelet

I can’t help but notice how different this style of bracelet is compared to the other jewelry. It’s woven from multi-colored waxed cords and has a nautical, summery feel. Only one side of the knot slides, but it still provides plenty of room to adjust the length. This bracelet isn’t really my style but I can see it working perfectly for someone with a beachier vibe.

bonus nail polish

Bonus: L’Oreal 2-Step Nail Polish and Top Coat in 911 Passionate Petal

Since this is my third month of receiving mintMONGOSE, a bonus gift was included in my package. Subscribers will receive a bonus gift every three months when subscribed.

The Verdict: I like the look of this month’s necklace and earrings and love that I can wear the earrings two different ways. The bracelet is cute, just not my style. I think the quality is fitting for a $15.70 jewelry subscription ($12 a month plus $3.70 shipping) and I like that the styles vary. This is a fun option for someone who likes a little surprise sparkle every month for a low price.

  1. Well that didn’t post. Perhaps because of the link?

I have that exact same necklace from January 2017 Bijoux box. Pretty frustrating since they promise “That’s why we deliver exclusive pieces you can’t find anywhere else, delivered right to your door”

    • It’s not an exact dupe (The Bijou box has a stone inserted into the square frame and slightly different colored stones) but it’s very, very close! I’m guessing what happened is they sourced from the same company or the company they used sourced from Alibaba, or something happened where the same exact template was used.

I know I got a couple months of TreasureBox (they send out two sterling silver/natural gem jewelry pieces plus some extras each month) and in one of my emails I’d mentioned finding the exact necklace online. They were surprised and wrote back that they’d commissioned an exclusive design (I sent them the link to the exact same necklace on Alibaba and they never wrote back after that. Not that it was really a problem – the necklace was high quality (far better quality than many sub box items I’ve received,) I’d only mentioned the Alibaba in pointing out that the jewelry sent was pretty equivalent to box cost so part of the reason I was cancelling was it wasn’t much of a discount (e.g. jewelry pieces seemed to RV between $20-$25, box cost was ~$50 – so with the extras the boxes were worth above what I paid, but not much, so I would rather go buy sterling jewelry in person than be sent it randomly.) But they seemed genuinely surprised that the exact same necklace was out there being sold by someone else.
