About The Box

The Box: GMA Discover The Deal Box

The Cost: $36.99 + free shipping

The Products: 10 terrific deluxe-size and full-size items.

GMA Discover the Deals September 2018 Review

Here is the info sheet for the box.

La Mer Collections Venice Leather Bracelet in Turquoise – Estimated Value $78 (linked to the same bracelet in a different color)

First off: is this jewelry company related to La Mer skincare? That question aside, this leather bracelet is detailed with 14k gold fastenings and is “hand assembled” in the USA. This bracelet is exactly 7 inches long, and it is recommended to fit 5-6” wrists. Needless to say, it didn’t fit me. I do like the combination of the gorgeous turquoise with the gold, and I like the classy bohemian vibes this bracelet is giving off.

Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator

Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator – Full-Size! Retail Value $58

I have sampled this before thanks to FabFitFun and Boxycharm, and, being blunt, I don’t believe this is a $58 exfoliator. If I am going to spend more than $25 on a skincare product, I want there to be some results that make the product stand out—and I don’t have that happens when I use this. That being said, the exfoliation is fine and not too abrasive, and it didn’t irritate my skin. I know a lot of people really love this exfoliator, so just because this isn’t for me does not mean it won’t be your next holy grail product!

Erin Condren Gratitude Journal

Erin Condren Gratitude Journal – Retail Value $12

I absolutely ADORE Erin Condren. I love all of her stationery, notebooks, and just the overall brand aesthetic. This petite journal features enough pages for 6 months of daily gratitude reflections, along with an end of the month reflection and goal page. The back of the journal also features a pocket with STICKERS! I am excited to focus more on gratitude for the next six months, and the rose gold accents are a perfect finishing touch.

Skinny Tees Basic Tank in White, One Size Fits All – Retail Value $34

These shirts are designed to stretch and move with you without stretching out. The fabric is a bit thicker than your normal tank, and that’s so it can help smooth any lumps and bumps. This is designed to be a “one size fits all,” but I have never had any luck with shirts like that so I didn’t even try. I will be giving this to a friend, but I am happy with the quality of the shirt for the price.

Tommie Copper Compression Elbow Sleeve, Size Medium

Tommie Copper Compression Elbow Sleeve, Size Medium – Retail Value $29.50

Welp, this is a new subscription box inclusion for me. This compression elbow sleeve is designed to help with elbow joint pain and is made with moisture-wicking, anti-odor fabric. Since it is designed specifically for compression, it is hard to put this on, and I gave up before it was halfway up my forearm.

Tokyo Milk by Margot Elena Perfume in Gin & Rosewater, Full-Size!

Tokyo Milk by Margot Elena Perfume in Gin & Rosewater, Full-Size! Retail Value $30

I love anything by Margot Elena (as do most subscription box lovers, I believe), and I am STOKED about this full-size perfume. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the gin and rosewater scent, which is a blend of citrus zest, mandarin, rosewood, and mimosa. This perfume smells so alluring to me, and wearing it makes me feel like I am a total and complete rockstar.

SpaLife Hydrating Facial Mask – Retail Value $5

My face recently had a reaction to a face mask I normally use with no problems, and when it was all said and done my face looked like I had just gotten sunburned even though it was 8 pm. I knew my skin needed soothing moisture, but I wasn't sure exactly what I should try. I decided to try this out since it is made with cucumber and aloe vera and both of those products are great for soothing and hydrating skin. After 20 minutes my face had calmed down significantly, and I enjoyed the light, pleasant cucumber scent to boot. This was a winner for me!

Perricone MD Neuropeptide Firming Moisturizer, 0.5 o

Perricone MD Neuropeptide Firming Moisturizer, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $72.50 (buy the 2 oz version for $290)

Holy skincare, Batman! This is some pricey skincare! This sample alone is worth double the cost of the box, so if you have been wanting to try it you have already got more than your money's worth. This is specifically for aging skin, and it is designed to help with wrinkles, imperfections, and loose skin. I found this to be lightweight while still delivering a punch of hydration to my skin, and a little bit was enough to cover my face. This sample is ¼ the size of the full-size version, so it should be big enough to really see results.

Musely Hydrogel Eye Mask – Retail Value $4

Hydrogel masks are my favorite kind of mask, and I am always happy to receive more. This is designed to make dark circles disappear as you wear them overnight, and it is made with cucumber fruit extract and grapeseed oil. I’ve been battling some dark circles thanks to stress, and the morning after I wore these I did think my dark circles had diminished.

AmazingCosmetics Illuminate Primer + Highlighter in Rose, 0.07 oz

AmazingCosmetics Illuminate Primer + Highlighter in Rose, 0.07 oz – Estimated Value $1.44 (buy the full-size version for $35)

This is a very sheer pink tinted primer that can be used alone, mixed with foundation, or on top of your making for a natural looking highlight. I liked the touch of glow mixing a drop of this with my tinted moisturizer provided, but since it has a pink base I had to be careful not to use too much due to the redness in my skin.

The Verdict: This was such an eclectic mix of items—I mean, how often do you get an elbow compression sleeve in the same box as a moisturizer sample worth over $70? Some of the items were misses for me, but the spirit of the box is about discovering new products at a deal, and I did just that! The TokyoMilk perfume is now tied with Nest Black Tulip for being one of my all-time favorites, and I am in love with my new gratitude journal from Erin Condren. Overall, this box has a total value of $324.44, which is incredible for a $37 box!

To Wrap Up

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No, it is now sold out.

I don’t know how I missed this box but I’m really sad about it 🙁

I have a lot La Mer Collections watches which I love but this bracelet is not even near the listed Retail Value. The fragrance is growing on me since at first all I could detect was the Gin. Evidently I’m very susceptible to brand name suggestion.
I’m probably the only one but Love the elbow sleeve. Banged mine a while ago and still sensitive to touch. Works great!
Not a bad box; the Perricone, fragrance and Tee makes it worth the price.

I really enjoyed almost everything. The journal, tee, and bracelet are awesome.

And the perfume!!!

Did anyone else’s tank top have rinestones sprinkled across the bottom? None of the pictures I’ve seen show rinestones but mine came with them

The fastening (lobster claw is 14k) but the chain is plated? All the other jewelry on the website is plated. Where do they get a value of $78?

Ragan

I think the “fastenings” referred to are the two circular elements (hence the plural). It would be quite odd to put a 14K clasp on a plated chain.

This was maybe the worst box I’ve ever gotten and that’s saying a lot. Everything was beyond cheap except the Perricone. Won’t be buying this one again.

I have to say I am really bummed I did not get this box, as it looks wonderful to me! I got burned on the box last fall, so was hesitant to try, but guess I missed out on a great one. Everyone enjoy!

I was sorry to miss out on this one. I love skinny tees and the bracelet is something I’d wear. Nice review!

I’ve been wearing the bracelet every day since I got the box, and it tarnished within a week. I’m not surprised, but it is nowhere near worth $78 even without the tarnishing. I liked the tank, the moisturizer, and the perfume too. Overall, I’m happy with the box.

Christy

My bracelet was tarnished as well after only a couple weeks. I came on here to see if anyone else had the same issue. I took pictures of the bracelet and emailed them to show them what poor-quality it appears to be.

Reply ButtonReply

Ragan

Did it get wet (even from hand washing) or sweaty and did you wear it constantly or remove it at night? Not saying the color should have changed (gold doesn’t tarnish at all, which is why it’s so expensive, but plating, if thin, might’ve worn off, and water/salt would exacerbate that, and if there was something like brass underneath, well, that *does* tarnish).

Lin

Same, my bracelet tarnished v c w/in the week 🙁 even if it was decent quality, i wouldnt pay more than $5 gor such a generic style….its even missing the branding, on the website they have a little metal tag ours dont :/

Do they have these every month?

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

Every day they have an offer on gma daily deals. At least once a week they have several offers. Usually the same stuff you see in sub boxes. Kind of like a fff editors sale offered once a day.

Reply ButtonReply

LB

Not every month. I’d guess more like quarterly but I’m not sure there is a set schedule. I only find out about them through MSA so I’m thankful for this page!

I was tempted by the box but ended up passing it up – I have gotten a couple Discover the Deal boxes in the past and liked those. I got a Tokyo Milk Dark Pretty Rotten fragrance in the first box of theirs I tried (My introduction to Margot Elena and I loved the strange fairytale vibe of the perfume.) Gin and Rosewater isn’t one of my favorite scents though, so I swapped the last one away. In the end I decided I was tempted by a few items in the box (bracelet, journal, compression sleeve, moisturizer) but overall most items would be a miss. (And I just got a Full size Dr. Brandt’s in another box! I’m not running out anytime soon.)

I agree on Dr. Brandt. It’s a decent exfoliator – I use it about once a week, but it isn’t so amazing I would buy it full price. I don’t notice any difference with my pores with it, though my skin texture does seem to be better. It does do a good job prepping the skin so my serums and moisturizers soak in better, so I like having it on hand.

It’s not a horrible box for them. The bracelet looks cheap to me and the elbow compression sleeve is a really odd inclusion. Overall a pretty good skincare month.
