Cat Lady Box October 2018 Review

Cat Lady Box is always full of fun, cat-themed lifestyle items. Let’s see what was in store for October:

Cat Lady Box October 2018 Booklet Front Cat Lady Box October 2018 Booklet Back

I love how the information cards have custom artwork every month. The back has more information about the items in the box. This is the annual black cat-themed box.

Cat Lady Box October 2018 Coasters 1 Cat Lady Box October 2018 Coasters 2

Black Cat Coasters – Listed Value $14.99

These come along at a good time. I had some other black-cat-themed coasters on my desk at work but after 5 or 6 years, the coating on those are not looking so good, and now I can just replace them with these. These did have a bit of a chemical smell at first but I let them air out for awhile and now they’re fine.

Cat Lady Box October 2018 Ears

Glitter Cat Ears – Listed Value $6.99

I am not much for dressing up for Halloween but something like this is OK for me. And a heck of a lot better than last year’s “costume,” which was a hospital gown (I had surgery last year on October 31). I think the glitter is a nice touch.

Cat Lady Box October 2018 Frame 1 Cat Lady Box October 2018 Frame 2 Cat Lady Box October 2018 Frame 3

Black Cat Picture Frame – Listed Value $9.99

Of course a picture of a kitty will go in here. I just have to figure out which one and then go somewhere and print it (I don’t have a printer capable of that any longer but there is a drugstore nearby with a machine for that sort of thing).

Cat Lady Box October 2018 Shirt

Black Cats Long-Sleeved Shirt – Listed Value $26.99

Now that it is getting colder, it is time for long-sleeved shirts. This one is nice and subtle and will be good for weekend errands as the weather gets cooler. It fits reasonably well (maybe a little loose) and is soft and comfortable.

Cat Lady Box October 2018 Tail Toy

Black Cat Tail Toy – Listed Value $4.99

I am not sure what the tail on this thing is made of, but Angus liked it quite a lot. I would drag the head along the floor and he’d sink his claws into it.

Cat Lady Box October 2018 Yarnimal

Hand Knit Black Cat Catnip Toy – Listed Value $4.99

This is more of a Madison thing. We have received toys like this from Cat Claws Club in the past and Madison has really had a good time with them. I am not sure if it’s the texture or the catnip inside or the size or what, but I’m mostly just happy that Madison is enjoying toys.

Here are a few cat photos for you:

Angus wants to play under the table lately. (That’s part of my bead collection you see in the foreground.)

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $68.94 for the October 2018 (Crazy) Cat Lady Box. That is a decent value (actually almost $30 over the month-to-month cost of the box) and the theme was a winner for us this month since we are fans of black cats around here! I know the shirt will get worn a lot and the other items are useful, as well, and my kitties like the toys.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Orders have to be placed by the 22nd of the previous month. So if you sign up today, you'll receive the November box.

Value Breakdown: At a price of $39.99 for this box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Coasters: $8.69
  • Cat Ears: $4.05
  • Frame: $5.79
  • Shirt: $15.66
  • Tail Toy: $2.89
  • Yarn Toy: $2.89

I LOVE this box – and I do not have a black cat! I find the quality of the t-shirts amazing; very soft and generous in fit. Can’t wait to wear this shirt on a cool day. The cat ear headband is just fun – probably something I will wear to pass out candy on Halloween because I always dress up as a cat (of course, right?) Coasters will be useful and the frame is adorable although I will probably re-gift this to a friend with a black cat. I also ordered the black cat lights and they arrived in this box. Very nice – smaller than I expected but I think that makes them nicer and less gaudy. The only issue I have with the Crazy Cat Lady Box is with the cat toys – my girl either loves them to pieces or she couldn’t care less! The knitted catnip toy was a real winner for her this month but that is rare. All in all, this was probably my favorite box in a long time, 10 out of 10!!

What material are the coasters made out of? I was obsessed with the fact that one of them looked bent? Everyday, I read through reviews for all of the boxes that interest me, even though I only get 1 sub box these days, unless you include stitch fix which I can’t afford to get monthly. One of the common themes in so many of the boxes is low quality items that don’t appear to be well thought out. I remember subscribing to this cat box one month because of a certain item that was actually really unique and cute and when I got the box, my item was shattered. The one thing I wanted happened to be Glass. 🤨 anyway, they didn’t have the stock to replace it , I was super bummed. Anyway, I’m rambling, but I guess I’m wondering if anyone else feels like a lot of Subscription boxes send items that brands have too much of because no one wanted them or didn’t like them, or that quality is lacking. It’s almost like they make it look like it’s a nice box because there is a certain popular brand in the box, but it is an item from the brand that was a total flop, or that we have been seeing in boxes for the past year now and it’s getting old. I’m sorry this is so negative, I really don’t mean to be, it’s really just a thought and I’m wondering if I’m alone in this. Happy October everyone!

That’s a reflection not a bend. They’re shiny

I’m not a cat person, my dog wouldn’t allow it but I love this box!! Everything is cute and I would wear that T shirt even if Bam Bam wold be mad.

This is a box I’m glad I won’t be getting and I have a black cat. It is yet another box of self promoting items. The coasters would be really cute if they weren’t an advertisement for the Cat Lady Box. I would never give these as gifts the way they are. It totally ruins them for me. To put the cost for what is essentially a promotional item at $14.99 is ridiculous.

I actually think the side with the logo is the bottom. There was a protective cover that peels off on the other side. Why protect the bottom and not the top

Yes, they sometimes put their logo on things. But the things with logos, are of much better quality than the generic “your logo here” stuff you can buy in bulk online or that you fill bags with at conferences. (Actually, the coasters were the only thing with their logo this month.)

I disagree about the quality of items in CatLadyBox. I subscribed for several months and found the quality completely lacking. This box is a fun idea but the quality of the items is so poor generally. When you say that the quality is much better than usual “generic “your logo here” stuff” in my experience, I could not disagree more.

Ellie F

I think “cat lady” is a generic enough term that the coasters don’t have to be taken as a promotional item. And the other items didn’t seem to have any promotional signage (unless my screen is too small to see it). I agree those coasters probably wouldn’t work as gifts, but they would be cute to keep. Not in my house, of course. I have klepto kitties and can’t keep anything that they can fit into their mouths!

I will wait to see if they post the adorable coasters in their shop. My cat Jessie has a tail that looks exactly like that!
