Bubbles & Books September 2018 Review

Bubbles info sheet - Information card Froont ViewThis month’s box came with a little information card! The September theme is “Campfire.”

Bubbles bookmark - Bookmark Front View

A bookmark was included, as well.

Bubbles book 1 - A Nice Day For a Cowboy Wedding by Nicole Helm Front View

Bubbles book 2 - A Nice Day For a Cowboy Wedding by Nicole Helm Back Side View

A Nice Day For a Cowboy Wedding by Nicole Helm – Retail Value $7.99 (found here for $5.98)

While I think the title could have been better, I actually really enjoyed this book! It is your standard cowboy romance novel, but it just felt more real. The woman is a single mother of a 12-year-old son who is dealing with demons from her past, and I felt that the author did a good job of talking about stresses and anxieties, both for being a parent and being a woman who has been in unhealthy relationships. I do find it a bit funny that this was the bad boy box because the main male character is as straight-laced as they come! Either way, the next book in this series comes out this month, and I will be picking it up to read (or most likely ordering it on my Kindle because of instant gratification).

From Amazon:

As the oldest of three brothers, Shane Tyler takes his responsibility to the family ranch seriously—and it’s clear to him that the younger man who wants to marry his idowed mother is only looking for a meal ticket. He’s determined to stop the nuptials whatever it takes, but the shy wedding planner his mom hired is harder to intimidate than he expected.

When Cora Preston worked up the nerve to leave her abusive ex and move with her young son to Gracely, it was a huge step. Accepting the position as a wedding planner at brand-new Mile High Weddings took even more courage. But Cora's biggest challenge is turning out to be the bride's handsome—and stubborn—oldest son, Shane, and the way the strong-willed cowboy makes her feel. Can the heat crackling between them warm two hearts suspicious of love?

Bubbles soap - Premium Handmade Soap in Chocolate Mint Box Front View

Bubbles & Books Premium Handmade Soap in Chocolate Mint

This soap is a Bubbles & Book exclusive, handmade with olive oil, coconut oil, soybean oil, corn oil, sunflower oil, shea butter, water, and lye. I don’t normally think of chocolate mint when I think of campfires, but this smells good regardless.

Bubbles bag- Bubbles & Book Bag Front ViewThis month the soap came packaged in this cute Smore’s bag, which would make it easy to gift this to a friend if the scent wasn’t for me.

Bubbles bath bomb - Bubbles & Books Premium Bath Bomb in Harvest Apple Front View

Bubbles & Books Premium Bath Bomb in Harvest Apple

I love that this box always includes a bath bomb—slipping into a bath that’s been fragranced with a bath bomb with a good read is one of my favorite ways to relax! This turned my bath water a nice shade of deep orange, and I enjoyed the spicy apple scent that reminded me of a good apple cider.

Bubbles stickers - Campfire Sticker Front Logo

Campfire Sticker

I find this sticker to align perfectly with my sense of humor, even though I wouldn’t want to put it on my laptop for everyone else to see. That being said, I am now craving a toasty roasted hot dog, and I think I can blame that on this funny sticker.

Bubbles candle - Citronella Tealight Candle Top View

Citronella Tealight Candle

Citronella candles do a great job of keeping away bugs, and the scent brings me back to sitting outside on the patio with my parents after a summer rainstorm. This is said to have a lemongrass fragrance, but all I can smell is the citronella.

Bubbles incense - Beaches of Tunisia Campfire Incense Top View

Beaches of Tunisia Campfire Incense, 4 sticks – Buy 12 sticks for $2.99

Here smelling much more lovely than citronella are incense sticks scented with “Campfire and Marshmallows,” “Campfire and Smoke,” and “Smores.” When I lit the various scents together the overall scent really did remind me of a campfire, and it was quite pleasant.

Bubbles pinecone - Pinecone Front View

Pinecone

Why. Just why, Bubbles & Books? You guys do a good job of redeeming yourselves after last month’s box, and then you include a pinecone? No, it is not “great as a decorative piece,” and I also will not be using it as fuel for my own campfire.

Verdict: Bubbles & Books combines two of my favorite things—reading and baths! That being said, I really wish they would stop including things like pieces of wood and pinecones in the monthly box - they really detract from the overall experience. I still think the overall price is fair for the bath bomb, book, and soap, but moving forward Bubbles & Books needs to use a bit more discretion when choosing what other items to include — I would be singing a completely different tune if that pinecone had simply been not included at all.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, you will start receiving the October box.

From Bubbles & Books:

We ship between the 10th and the 15th of every month. Orders received the 15th-20th will ship the next business day.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Maybe the pinecone was meant for a bath toy for giggles? I don’t know.

This would be fun, except I don’t like romance novels.
