Bookroo is a subscription service that sends books for children every month. They have a board book plan (for ages 0-2.5), a picture book plan (for ages 2.5-6) and a chapter book plan (for ages 7-10). They offer the option to alternate between picture and board books each month which is great if you have children in different age groups like I do.

This review is of the Picture Book, $19.95 a month, box.

Bookroo sends the books individually wrapped each month. I love the beautiful tropical paper this month!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

October 2018 Bookroo Picture Book Review

How fun is the wrapping paper this month? It looked so beautiful all bundled up and it made me feel cozy just looking at it!

Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of some of the books and this month the front side has a nice Meet the Team section which I enjoyed reading. It's always fun to see the faces behind the curation!

Little Home Bird by Jo Empson - Retail Value $16.99 (found here for $12.22)

This story begins with Little Bird who loves his home and is very comfortable there with all of his things like his favorite branch and his favorite food. While he is very happy here, he soon learns that he needs to leave this home to fly south for the winter. After his brother breaks the news that they must go, Little Bird packs up his favorite things so that he can take them with him. Soon, they begin to weigh him down and he has to let go of them a little at a time. Fortunately, there are many others who also enjoy his favorite things, like the dog who found his favorite branch.

This story is such a great one for a child who may be getting ready to move or leave their home. It finds such a delicate way to explain what happens when you leave a familiar place and in the end, Little Bird finds many new things that he loves. The beautiful and colorful illustrations really help to support this gentle tale and I am happy to add such a sweet book to our family library!

Hop Along Boo: Time for Bed by Mandy Sutcliffe - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $12.59)

This is the story of Belle and the lullaby she sings to her bunny, Boo. The rhythmic text and the charming illustrations make this such a sweet and lovable book! The illustrations all feature a soft gradient full of dreamy colors that change as Belle sings her way through cowboys and dancers and sailors as they all begin to settle down for the night.

This is the perfect bedtime story that really puts you in the mood to sleep and even elicited a yawn from myself as I read it aloud. I have a feeling I will be reaching for this story often because it gives me such warm and cozy feelings.

Verdict: Our Bookroo books this month were filled with sweetness, but I think the real appeal for me was actually in the illustrations! They were both so different from one another in style, but equally mesmerizing. Hop Along Boo was my favorite of the two, and I foresee us reading this together often before bedtime. Overall, this was a great box! Also, I have to note that I find myself looking forward to the wrapping paper they use each month because that first visual really sets the tone for the box. This box costs $24.95 ($19.95 a month + $5 shipping) and the retail value of the books we received is $34.98, which I think is a great value for such beautiful books.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
