Bluum September 2018 Review

This Bluum box was sent for my son, Parker, who is 2 years old. Let's see what we received this month:

Urban Infant Chunky Sidewalk Chalk - Retail Value $10 (found here for $9.95)

This chalk is supposed to be extra vibrant and includes a unique booklet with information on hopscotch variations from around the world. While the hopscotch factor might be a little too advanced for my son, this chalk is definitely something he will enjoy! I am looking forward to some nice fall days on the back patio filled with some fun chalk art!

Sugarbooger Numbers Silverware Set - Retail Value $9.95  (this particular set is currently out of stock)

I have always considered purchasing a set of these, so I was happy to see this in our box! Not many restaurants have kid-friendly flatware, so having a set that comes in its own case to keep it clean is great. This fits nicely inside our diaper bag and if we have to put it away dirty, the case will protect it from getting anything else in our bag dirty along with it.

The little animals with numbers is a cute design and the small size is perfect for little fingers to use at mealtime. This is a nice, substantial set with actual metal so it should last a while and will be passed down to his baby brother when he's ready!

Yorba Organics Family Hand Wash - Retail Value $4.40 (65 ZAR)

Yorba Organics is a South African company and this wash contains powder from the native wild baobab fruit which has refreshing antioxidant properties. I'm always happy to have natural, organic products for my family so this handwash should have been perfect for us, but it ended up being a bit disappointing. For starters, it is past the expiration date, which isn't too worrisome for me since it's a handwash but is a little upsetting as part of a subscription box in regards to their quality control.  The color is very orange and it actually leaks from the pump just a bit, which is creating quite a mess on my kitchen counter. I also am not crazy about the smell, which is reminiscent of fresh pumpkin flesh. It isn't awful, but just not something I'm super excited about or will seek out in the future.

Mudpuppy Andy Warhol Puzzle Wheel - Retail Value $14.99 (found here for $11.41)

The last item in our box was our hero item, an Andy Warhol inspired wheel puzzle. As a former art teacher, I love this puzzle and that it highlights an important artist, while also providing a color wheel on the back. The wheel shape is really fun and unique and was just challenging enough for my two-year-old.

Since it is only a seven-piece puzzle, I worry that he will lose interest pretty quickly, but I love the storage case for it and think it can definitely serve as a great art display on a toy room shelf. When it comes time to learn color mixing, I definitely plan on bringing this out and using the color wheel with my kids! I love that it has a little mini color wheel in the center to show complementary colors!

Verdict: This was a pretty decent Bluum box with a good mix of useful items for mom and fun items for my son. The puzzle is awesome and I know Parker will love playing with the chalk outside! The silverware is great to throw in the diaper bag and while the hand wash was a bit of a miss, I still appreciate that they sent a natural, organic product. This box costs $34 a month, including free shipping, and the total value of the items I received is $39.34, which really isn't that impressive. It is still over the cost of the box, but when their site boasts "retail value always far exceeds the price you’ll pay," I don't think they quite met that with these items this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? All orders are processed the first of every month and shipped out on the 9th. If you order today, you will start receiving a box for next month.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
