September 2018 Apocalyptic Beauty “Harvest Goddess” Review

Apocalyptic Beauty included two information cards: the first lists all the items included and all of their ingredients, and the second is a business card listing all of their social media.

September’s theme is Harvest Goddess, and the colors featured are brilliant autumn shades inspired by fall leaves. Each product in this month’s bag is named after Harvest Goddesses or rites.

Their motto is “Stand beautiful amid the ruins.” I am hoping to do just that! Let’s dig into these colorful cosmetics!

Pomona Eyeshadow - Estimated Value $5

Pomona is a spicy, pumpkin matte orange. The texture of this eyeshadow is very soft. As you can see, these shadows do not have sifters in them; I was a little concerned with making a mess since that’s usually the case with loose shadows and my clumsy fingers, but I really didn’t have any clean up after opening all four of these loose pigments.

Isis Eyeshadow

Isis Eyeshadow - Estimated Value $5

Isis is my very favorite of all these colors! She is a gorgeous matte chartreuse, and I am so excited to pop this color in the middle of a bold, smokey eye!

Demeter Eyeshadow - Estimated Value $5

This shadow, like the two other matte shades, appears darker in the container, but when you swatch her, she glows! Demeter is a muted almost-neon, matte orange shade. This color really reminds me of the Macaroni and Cheese Crayola Crayon! I love this for any eye color, but it would definitely make blue eyes pop.

Huichi Eyeshadow - Estimated Value $5

Unlike the other three loose shadows, this one contains micro glitter, and she is a gorgeous pinky plum, but when you pack it on, she transforms into an intense burgundy. Unfortunately, this shadow’s sparkle doesn’t translate as well to the eyes, but it is still a very impressive, pretty color.

Samhain Liquid Lipstick - Estimated Value $12

At first glance, the swatch of Samhain seems a pumpkin orange, but on the lips, it is peachier, as you’ll see in the look I put together down below. I like the fruity smell of this lippy, and it was surprisingly easy to apply. I smoothed it all over my lips with the doe foot applicator, and this formula had some slip to it before it dried, so it was very easy to get an even application. I will say that after it dried down it seemed to thicken on the lips.

Here is the look I came up with using the five products from this month’s box. I loved all of the shadows together, but I wasn’t thrilled about the lip color (I’ll get to that). The info card recommended using a white base before applying the shadows, so I brushed on NYX Jumbo eye pencil in Milk all over my lids and set it with a white shadow before anything else. I then started with my light coverage base, then I added Pomona from the inner corner to the middle of my lid, blending up toward my crease. I then wet my brush and started packing Huichi out past my eye and in towards the center. I knew I wanted to use Isis as a pop of color, so since my lid was already covered in orange and burgundy, I applied the NYX Glitter Primer to really help Isis pack a punch (and it did just that--love that green!!).

After my lid was done, I added Huichi under my eye and blended it out with Demeter all the way into the inner corner. I like to have a highlight in the inner corner, so I popped a random gold shadow there to go with the fall aesthetic.

After the eyes, I applied Samhain, the liquid lip. I never wear light colors like this, but it didn’t seem to wash me out too much. That being said, I am never too impressed with liquid lip formulas. This one became heavy as it dried down and acted as most liquid lips do, shriveling my lips and making so many sad, dry crinkles.

Overall, I love the colors sampled this month, and I really liked the look I came up with! The shadows performed really well and had great staying power (going strong on 6+ hours!). I only left the lipstick on for the first two pictures, then I added a sparkly topper to try to give my lips life again for the last photo.

The Verdict:  I am so pleased with this month’s Apocalyptic Beauty Look of the Month Club! It really fulfilled my lust for fall colors, and these brights inspired me to try a new seasonal look I otherwise may not have pieced together. I also really love Isis, and I can’t wait to use it in another look! The quality and pigmentation of Apocalyptic Beauty’s cosmetics were really impressive, and I am so excited to see how they curate October’s “Living Dead Girl” theme!

For $12.50 a month, including free US shipping, I received four eyeshadows and one liquid lip which adds up to an estimated value of $32. I think that is a great value for such quality colors and performance!

Looking at the shadows themselves I was sort of eh about the items, but seeing the swatches and especially your look (you look amazing!) I’m impressed!
