Accio! September 2018 “School Pride” Review

The info card for this box is always an “issue” of the Daily Prophet, and it explains all the delights about to be discovered within! This month’s theme is “School Pride,” and it makes so much sense to me, since I associate September with back-to-school, and I looooove back-to-school. I love my chosen house of Ravenclaw, so I’m really excited to see what items are in this month’s box!

House Pride Lanyard - Listed Value $6

This lanyard allows me to take Wit and Wisdom wherever I go! This will be great for the keys to my office, and I’m definitely going to take the Prophet’s advice and start affixing my growing pin collection to the straps. The blue-and-bronze motif is straight from the books. So house-proud!

House-Inspired Luxuriant Lotion, 4 oz

House-Inspired Luxuriant Lotion, 4 oz - Retail Value $7

Each lotion contains the same interesting base ingredients; meadowfoam oil, sweet almond oil, and colloidal oatmeal, and as a proud Ravenclaw, I received the lavender and green tea-scented version. I like the smell of this; it’s really strong in the jar, but when I put it on my skin, it wasn’t as intense. It reacted a little with my body chemistry and mellowed a bit, and the solution was extremely emollient.

House-Inspired Candle, 8 oz - Retail Value $12, Listed Price $10

Box-favorite vendor Highland Bluff Studio is back in this Accio! with house-focused candles, and mine is awesome! I received the Ravenclaw-based Black Tea, Leather, and Paper scent, a strong, neutral smell that would smell great in both my office or my guest room. This candle is soy, so when melted, a little bit of it can be rubbed into the skin - I like to use it on my hands! This combo creates a very clean scent, rather than something overly feminine, and I thought the 8 oz “serving” was very generous. I burn a lot of candles when the weather gets cold, and this will definitely go into heavy rotation!

Ravenclaw House Common Room Articulated Print

Ravenclaw House Common Room Articulated Print - Listed Value $14

I love when the boxes include art! This piece is so clever, and the artwork is faithful to what I understand the Ravenclaw Common Room to look like! Stars are reflected from the dark carpet onto its domed ceiling, and this piece depicts a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw, the house’s founder, right where it’s supposed to be in the room. This will be awesome on the wall in a nice frame.

Welcome Home Enamel Camp Mug

Welcome Home Enamel Camp Mug - Listed Price $19

The final item is actually something I don’t already own - I’ve never had one of these camping mugs before! I love that this last piece is Hogwarts-focused, rather than being a house item. The mug is sturdy and full-sized, and the inscription, “Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home,” is both beautifully designed and makes me feel fuzzy inside. (It’s actually a quote directly from J.K. Rowling herself - she said it at the London premiere of the final movie!)

Verdict: I really liked this month’s Accio! box! I was definitely excited to have such a house-centric box, as I love most Ravenclaw items I receive. In this particular box, though, the items were thing that I really enjoy using, like the lotion and the candle, and the print, lanyard, and mug really fit the theme well. I thought it was a solid variety of items totaling $58 in value.

I like the items but wouldn’t pay more than $20 for the September box. I’d say some price inflation going on at least with the cup. I’d say a $7 mug at the most. This one is a miss for me.
