MunchPak Original Box August 2018 Review

Each month’s box comes with this welcome card highlighting who curated your box!

Pizza in a Bag (Pepperoni Jerky) Buffalo Pizza Style by Super Snack Time – Retail Value $4.00

I’m sure this would be a very appreciated snack for someone on a low carb diet (like my husband) but to me, I don’t typically snack on meat, am not generally a fan of jerky, and personally thought that this snack was really gross. I did take a bite but it was it was too spicy for me, and kind of slimy – it’s just not my thing.

Takis Zombie Habanero & Cucumber Tortilla Chips – Retail Value $3.00

Not. For. Me. I think these are a cult classic (like many odd-flavored limited-edition things) but these were far too spicy and had an odd hint of artificial tasting lime and cucumber. If I was being forced to consume these, I’d need a zip – for sure. I did like the texture so I think in a different flavor these would be good, but I guess I’m not a death walker after all.

Hardbite Wild Onion & Yogurt Chips–Retail Value $2.00

Finally, a snack for me! These chips are thick and crunchy, with a really yummy almost caramelized onion flavor. I really enjoyed them but was a bit bummed that I couldn’t find them online to purchase! If I ever come across them again, I’ll definitely pick up a bag – they’re apparently a Canadian snack.

Ozmo Hoppo Cookies – Retail Value $2.00

These little cookies are filled with chocolate cream and feature pirate-themed illustrations printed on the side. I really liked them, in fact, they taste exactly like a similar treat sold in our local Asian grocery store (I think they have a bear motif, instead of pirates).

Jelaxy Watermelon Gummies – Retail Value $1.00

These gummies are shaped like little watermelon slices and taste very much like a watermelon jolly ranger. I thought that it was the right amount of tartness and I enjoyed the chewy texture.

Today Goldies Black & White Cake – Retail Value $1.00

This is a fluffy chocolate sponge cake filled with a creamy vanilla filling. It’s compared to a mash-up of a Twinkie and an Oreo, and I agree. While I’m not typically one to reach for a snack cake – this was pretty tasty, and I liked the mild milky flavor of the cream.

Fritt Wildberry Chewy Candy Strips – Retail Value $3.00

I like that this snack has an added boost of Vitamin C – I've been fighting a nasty summer cold all week! With a taffy-like texture, you get a lot of bang for your buck with these yummy, berried flavored bites. This package had 5 individually wrapped strips, all with 5 segmented pieces, so you get around 25 chewy bites in this one little package!

Gandour Dabke Lemon Cream Cookies – Retail Value $1.00

These Lebanese cookies reminded me of animal crackers filled with a sweet lemon cream. My young son loved them as well! They are about an inch square, so the perfect snack size to satisfy your sweet tooth without too much guilt!

Mieszko Zozole Mixer Cactus & Lemon Candy – Retail Value $2.00

I like having hard candies in a jar on my desk, and my coworkers might get a surprise when they pick up this sweet prickly pear variety! I bet they will have a hard time guessing the flavor, to me it tastes like a cross between an apple flavor and lime – plus there is a fizzy lemon center packing a wallop to the finish! I really liked these.

Hata Ramune Soda Muscat Flavor – Retail Value $5.00

I’ve never had a soda like this! To open it, you remove the wrapper, and are left with a cap containing an “opener”. You remove the opener from the ring and press it down onto the marble sealing the beverage. This creates a bubbly reaction in the drink making it taste like a mildly sweet green grape soda.

Verdict: I thought this MunchPak was a fun treat. I tend to favor the sweeter treats and didn’t particularly care for a few of them, but overall, I think it’s a fair price point and it’s fun to try things that aren’t available locally. I like that you get to try a variety from all over the world as well!

My box was similar to yours aside from a few items but I do agree about that Pizza jerky! I eat low carb and was excited to see it but it really did taste like pizza and had a crazy nasty aftertaste.

Meat as a snack is such a weird concept to me! 🙂 Thanks for your comment!
