Meowbox September 2018 "Back To School" Review

Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats. From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box. The picture is adorable, as usual. This month had a back to school theme.

Apple Rattle Ball

Apple Rattle Ball – Retail Value $5

I think the faces on Meowbox toys are just adorable. This is a small rattle ball with a soft outer coating. Angus and Monkey are my kitties who enjoy rattle balls the most, so I have put this in our home office where they can play with it all night if they want, without waking us up!

Pencil Kicker

Pencil Kicker – Retail Value $7

This is a larger catnip toy, meant to be a kicker style toy. It also has feathers coming out the end, which were the main draw for my cats the first time I gave this to them. The feathers seem securely attached, which is important since my kitties can be a little violent with feather toys.

Catnip Peanut Butter and Jelly – Retail Value $5

This is a catnip plush (non-rattle) with another cute happy face. This is a good size for catching on a claw and tossing. I’ve put this one in the area where Sneaky hangs out before mealtimes as I have caught her (on numerous occasions) playing specifically with Meowbox toys there.

The Purrfect Grade Wand

The Purrfect Grade Wand – Retail Value $10

This is a dangly felt catnip toy on a wand. I think this was the most popular item in this month’s box (wand toys usually are well-loved by my crew, especially Sneaky and Angus). My cats were a little rough with this but it is still in one piece, so that is also good.

Caledon Farms Chicken Bites – Retail Value $3.99

These are made in Canada. What is nice about them is that the pieces are small and uniform (some of the other freeze-dried meats are really too big for a lot of cats to easily eat). Sneaky, Madison, and Monkey all enjoyed these (Mr. Kitty and Angus can’t have chicken).

Kitty photos:

Madison investigates the wand while looking like a total derp.

He was also REALLY into rubbing his head on things when I took these pictures.

Here he is with a treat.

Haha, I caught Sneaky NOT looking bored while she played with a toy.

Back to normal.

Here she is eating treats.

Angus’s favorite part of the wand was the string.

Monkey isn’t too active this week. I think he is working on a giant hairball. But here he is with some items from the box.

Mr. Kitty is back. He is feeling much better now that he has been on insulin for a while. He still can’t see well (and probably never will again) but his activity level is 1000% better.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $30.99 for the September Meowbox. That is a good amount over the cost of the subscription for a cat subscription box. I loved all the happy faces on the toys and my cats liked the toys, as well (and those who could eat the treats were also fans). I thought this month did a nice job of matching items to a theme while still providing different toy types, as well.

I ordered this box based upon your reviews. My cat Meadow not only hangs out at the box every evening, she smelled it is soon as I brought it in from the mail. I opened the box and she dove in it like it was a feather bed.

I think they spray something in the boxes to make it more attractive to cats. Mine react to the actual box for this one, too.
